Game On! Newcastle v Sunderland

Game On at St James' Park
Game On at St James’ Park
The 150th competitive Tyne-Wear derby is upon us which means that once again bragging rights are up for grabs.

Those rights have been firmly held on Wearside after back-to-back defeats against the Mackems who go looking for a third successive victory over us for the first time in 91 years.

Yet another miserable transfer window will do nothing to lift the pressure on Alan Pardew. His derby results have been poor since that 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light so he needs a result on that basis, but he also needs one to quell the anger that is rising regarding a lack of transfer activity. I’ll go into more detail on that front in the next few days but at this moment this game is the most important thing and should be the focus of everyone connected to either club.

News of injuries and suspensions for both sides, some stats and facts and a background of the fixture can all be found in the match preview for this game which you can view here if you haven’t already done so. For full team news please see the bottom of this article roughly one hour prior to kick-off.

The match isn’t being shown live here in the UK although it scheduled to be broadcast on a wide range of overseas channels so picking up a stream shouldn’t be too difficult for those who aren’t in the fortunate position of being inside the ground. If you do find a stream please share it and leave a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

I haven’t got that usual derby feeling if I’m being honest. Not yet anyway although I’m pretty sure it will kick in at some point before kick-off. I can’t quite put my finger on why I feel that way, I just do. Maybe a game in midweek along with transfer deadline day (also known simply as Friday in these parts) has kind of ruined the build up?

I guess it doesn’t really matter how I feel now, it’s what happens on the pitch that is most important. At the moment they are the form team of the two but as has been said and demonstrated so many times previously, form is irrelevant on the day.

Howay the lads!

As for me I can remember that night but I cant remember what name I used can you ? I have regretted it from then but in my defence I was put up to it

      (Quote)

  7. KK, it wasn’t meant to be saucy, just wondered if the name was a play on the books character or a funny coincidence . I’ve not read it by the way, not my cup of tea sadly, prefer Mark Billingham thrillers 😉

      (Quote)

  8. DAVE you chose your name when you join the blog so why would you want to change it,unless you tell other bloggers so cannot buy that as a excuse, yes I can remember the name you used but won’tell you,so you are saying you were put up to it,so you are lead easy then

    Calm down buddy 😯

I stopped posting under mrgrey because i couldn’t be bothered to type it.

My posts are always consistent & i haven’t posted under any other names since last summer.

    I’m pro ashley, anti-pardew.

I think we should be challenging for 4th.

I like football more than i like the club.

I like marveaux, cisse & ben arfa.

I’m not keen on sissoko because i think he needs to improve hos ball skills.

I think shola gets unfair abuse but that he’s also not good enough. Same opinion about obertan.

What ever name i posted under before i’ve posted these opinions.

    Relax

Nope, not a play on the book. I support NUFC. They play in Black & White= Grey!

Ok, not very witty i know 😳

  13. KK I am not giving you a hard time but how can you be pro ashley when he is fuking up so many things ? surely that makes him a bad owner no ?

      (Quote)

  14. How can anyone be 1. pro Ashley and 2. expect to be pushing for fourth.
    The two don’t go together.
If you are pro Ashley then you must be pro mediocrity. No ambition except to chase the big money.
you cant have it both ways

  15. oh and btw Hatem Ben Arfa is fucking over rated *****.
sorry but I’ve seen enough of his so called talent.
    Ballon d’or   😆
    my ****.
I hope he puts in a transfer request in the summer.
occasional flashes of brilliance and everyone wants to suck him off.
    bollix to him.

Nope, i’ve only been going on blogs since last year. I used to read themag & post comments there occasionally but too many boring articles got posted.

Not sure which blogs people are talking about when they mention ed or .org

    Re Mike Ashley
Imo mike ashley is better than Freddy. I haven’t gotten over the fact that he sacked SBR.

I also think mike ashley just bought us to have fun. He doesn’t need a few million more as he already has more than he could ever spend on himself.

He hired Keegan whilst not a great move was a positive step up from allardyce. Keegan has history of walking out & i imagine he wanted to spend big.

It didn’t work out with llambias & wise so keegan left. I think mike ashley tried to talk keegan into staying but keegan wanted wise gone.

When keegan left we ripped into ashley & it’s been tough times since.

I think if we get a good manager it will rebuild the relationship between mike & the supporters. Some of the fans were ott in the abuse they gave

  17. I knew KK couldn’t be B&B because his posts are way too short 😉
Doesn’t answer where Troy the troll has got to lately tho.
Maybe got lost climbing Everest again.
Either that or his mrs has locked him in the laundry basket again. 😛

  18. @bb

Mike Ashley wants NUFC to do well. Kinnear & Pardew do to.

If we make it to 4th on a budget, everybody is happy. I don’t think Pardew or Kinnear can get us close enough to 4th so they should be replaced.

Mike Ashley has already taken a backseat. The club needs to be self sufficient which is something i’m happy with.

We tend to do good transfer business but something is lacking from the coaches & manager. Mike Ashley’s fault for continuously hiring the wrong people.

    Re Ben Arfa.
Imo he was our best player today.

      (Quote)

  19. Premandup is the only other pro ashley guy i can think of but i don’t know who was here a couple of summers ago

      (Quote)

  20. @mark 😆
I was serious. Ben Arfa was ordinary but he still did better than everybody else imo.

Sissoko seems to be getting some aggression now. Hopefully it’s a good think.

      (Quote)

  21. The only positive thing I can say is that this lack of transfers means Ashley will sale the club this summer.

      (Quote)

  22. Just been on the official website, no apology from Pardew or JFK/Ashley as far as I can see. Just one from Tiote, who gave his all and had probably our best chance of the match, from 35 yards. 😐

      (Quote)

  23. @KK

what makes you think MA wants newcastle to do well? If well counts as 10th spot with no cups or Europe then yeah, youre right but do well in my eyes is showing ambition.

If he wants to do well why does he hire your mate Pardew? 😀

He could of showed us how ambitious he was by spending some money in the window gone to keep up with the top 7. we’re 9pts from 4th and we’re looking over our shoulders again..

      (Quote)

  24. MARK maybe be but there was defo a guy called Spence who talked about the 20mil a yr white,Dave maybe knows him better

      (Quote)

  25. KK – wtf ❓ you can NOT be serious surely.
Freddy Shep reacted to the fans who wanted sir Bobby sacked.
we weren’t satisfied with finishing top 5 for 3 seasons and winning nothing.
It was a mistake and he has admitted so.
Keegan took Ashley to court for constructive dismissal and won.
He was sold a lie right from the start, and did the right thing by walking out.
Ashley is A **** end of.
The sooner his helicopter crashes and burns with him on board the better, for me.
A billionaire buys a football club with no ambition to take it forward.
You couldn’t make it up tbh.

      (Quote)

  26. @STEM

Ive thought that for a while now but while the cash is rolling in, does he need to sell up?

If we could put that 50mil profit from transfers and add 6mil per season Advertising profit to pay back Ashleys loan I’d be well happy but Ashley wants money for pockets and Ads for nowt..

      (Quote)

  27. Also the players were arguing with each other today, apparently Krul was having a right go at Santon after Johnsons goal like.

      (Quote)

  28. @mark
If the club does well, mike ashley does well too that’s why he’d like us to do well.

However if we just hover around 10th he’s not too bothered either. His money is safe.

It’s the risk of relegation that bothers him & only then does he get involved.

The rest of the time he just lets the club run itself.

If we don’t meet certain targets he’ll sack some people (Derek Llambias didn’t meet financial targets).

He was going to sack pardew too but didn’t want to make too many changes to quickly. If Pardew finishes outside top10 it’s over for him.

Mike Ashley doesn’t care if we do well but if it happens, he’ll be happy.

      (Quote)

  29. our best player today was Tiote, and he was **** poor.
Doesn’t say much for the rest

      (Quote)

  30. so he wants us to do well but doesnt care if we do well but is happy to hover around 10th spot.

    & u support this guy?

He couldnt give a **** about us mate. As long as we stay in the prem and Carr can bankroll him some profit he’s happy.

      (Quote)

  31. @bb

I didn’t want SBR sacked & i don’t know anyone who did. It’s not like we had someone to replace him with & it was right at the start of the season.

Yes, Keegan won the case but i do think mike ashley takes the backseat most of the time. Derek Llambias was the one who lied.

Mike Ashley doesn’t know anything about football.

      (Quote)

  32. we need a chairman that is bothered if we don’t do well.

He’s shown he’s not bothered for a while now. We want a chairman with passion even if we don’t spend loads of money we want a chairman to work with the money we raise and be up for cups and Europe.

Mike has no passion for us or what we’re about imo 😥

      (Quote)

  33. Mark I can’t see it unfortunately. How much can fan’s take ? They deserve a medal. Losing like that at home to Sunderland is not right. Ashley should be upset like the rest but it’s impossible for me not to blame him.

      (Quote)

  34. @mark

I support him against some of the abuse he gets. I don’t think he should be pumping his money into the club (but it would be good if he did 😆 )

I’d rather just ignore Mike Ashley & just focus on the players & the manager.

The club can run itself. We just need the right people in the right jobs. Mike Ashley can be an absentee owner for all i care. I have no ill feelings towards him but i’d just prefer to ignore him.

I don’t think other owners get as much attention as mike ashley. I don’t even know who owns Spurs.

      (Quote)

  35. KK – you wont find many so called fans who will admit to wanting SBR sacked.
Most who did are too ashamed to admit it. But it happened.
The truth is he lost the dressing room, with the likes of Dyer and co stabbing him in the back.

  36. there are thousands of jabba fans along with a few on here, thing is they are
all scum fans, they are very pleased we have jabba

      (Quote)

  37. @mark
100% agree. We need a chairman or chief exec but there is no one at the club doing that role since Llambias.

Nicola Cortese is unemployed & could make us a real force. He had Southampton believe that they could win the title 😯

If he was here he’d have us believe we could win the CL 😯

      (Quote)

  38. If we reinvested some of the profits we are making in strengthening the squad, nobody could complain.
We could still break even while pushing for top 5.
Its just impossible to know what is going on.
If he recoups his debts and sells us on, I wont complain.
Just do it already. as much as possible as soon as possible.
    Then **** off forever

      (Quote)

  39. @Stem

We all know thats asking for miracles.

I gave up on Ashley communicating a while ago… I’d rather not hear from any of them, it normally turns out to be lies or empty promises

      (Quote)

  40. ‘But if Ben Arfa is to influence games to the extent of Cabaye, he would need a clearly defined role in the team which he appeared to lack this weekend. He did not know whether to stick or twist and, although he created more chances than any of his team-mates, he did not have a single shot in the game.’

So he was our most creative player but wasn’t sure what to do in a no 10 role with only Shola ahead of him.

      (Quote)

  41. Lol@Mark

Shola is effective somtimes but today we were toothless upfront. I think we badly missed runners like Gouffran & Remy both of them might have been effective alongside shola.

  42. Given a choice, I’m not sure if I’d rather kill Alan Pardew or Mike Ashley.

…that’s my desert island disk for the evening.

      (Quote)

  43. Saying we “need to go back to basics” doesn’t necessarily mean a change in playing style. It might just mean focusing on team shape and the basics of tracking runners when we don’t have the ball which we totally failed to do today… Stuff like that. People read far too much into comments.

      (Quote)

  44. Still pissed off. That has to be one of the worst displays this season. But, no, I’m not going to join the ranks of the drama queens. It’d be mildly humorous how people are quick to triumphantly crow about how right they were all along if I wasn’t so pissed off. Obviously their egos are precious.

Tiote aside, the players were well below par and lacking spirit, skill, guile or memory of how to pass a ball. Team tactics were seemingly non-existent beyond hoping a long ball to a big man would work or somebody would produce a moment of magic. There was little structure on show, and, it seems, a paucity of ideas in the dugout. Pardew once again showed how average his abilities are (below average this time, actually). Having an inept DoF and an owner who fails to understand the mentality of football doesn’t help.

It’s now up to Brisbane Roar to bolster my spirits today.

    Still, howay the lads. 😥

      (Quote)

  45. Paulo,

Pardew needs to go back to basics. Because its all he is capable of as a manager.

If we are stuck with him for five years. We need to sell off the flair and buy some big strong grafters. That’s his type of player.
