How do you feel about our two new signings?

Colback - Changing colours
Colback – Changing colours
So we’ve signed two players, on permanent deals. Bring out the banners and stop the press! This kind of things doesn’t happen often.

Ayoze Perez has joined us from Tenerife whilst Jack Colback has joined us from our bitter rivals on Wearside, with rather amusing reactions from those of a red and white persuasion as a result.

To be honest I can’t really knock the Colback transfer. We picked him up for nowt and he’s a tidy player. Nothing spectacular and certainly no replacement for Yohan Cabaye, but he’ll do a job and despite his time spent at Sunderland, he is actually a United fan so he’ll give his all for us and at least we’ll have one player in our ranks who knows what it means to play in a Tyne-Wear derby!

Speaking of which, many fans have reservations about him purely because of his reaction after recent derby victories for Sunderland. I suggest people get over it and realise that he was just doing a job for the club who actually gave him a breakthrough in the Premier League. Alan Shearer celebrated enough goals against us before he joined us which is worth pointing out. He was just doing his job.

I can’t really comment on Perez as I can’t say my personal knowledge of the Spanish second division is up there with the best. He sounds like a decent enough prospect though but we don’t exactly have a great record of developing prospects do we? Plus he is said to be small, technical and pacey, which isn’t the kind of player that Pardew seems to like. He’s not even a left-back for goodness sake!

So back to my original question. How do I feel about these two new signings. Uninspired I guess. Yes we need our squad building but that is through the neglect from the past few transfer windows, but we also need our first team strengthened and whilst Colback may strengthen it overall, I’d like to think we have our eyes on better players to plug those gaps in the first team.

I’m in danger of sounding like I’m clamouring for superstar signings. I’m not. But I do want the first team strengthened and for me neither of these should be doing that.

That is why I’m underwhelmed…

  1. Boots – but even before now. Holland were finalists in the last WC – how can they be 5 places behind us?. – weird!!.

Penos for Brazil and Chile. I know it’s regularly said, but both of these teams deserve to go through after the work they have both put in – superb game of football.

      (Quote)

  2. Well that was a great football match, really enjoyed that and Brazil still have a couple of gears to go up yet imo. Feel really sorry for Chile they worked like dogs, no real superstars in the team but spirit and guts galore , they must hate that bloody woodwork mind.

  3. Ice, They have had a lot of luck and a great player in Neymar to thank so far. They said during the match near the end that this side had the least poss/passing stats of any Brazil side since 1966 😯

  4. KIM I have watched that Luis quite a lot, always thought he was a canny player who would walk into any team, but little things shows mewhy Jose has sold him, must be nice to be able to shop around for another c/h better if you don’t play Jose way your on your way has done the same with Luka,I would have both, would be nice to have a owner that spends money we quip over a few thou over the top

      (Quote)

  5. KIM. Jose says he’s lazy at times on the pitch, its true I have saw it,his movement is poor when he steps up in class, like you I would have him like

      (Quote)

  6. Ice – when you think that Diego Costa switched to Spain coz he couldn’t get into the Brazil side ahead of Fred and Jo – it’s mental. It’s why I don’t think Brazil will win the WC.
    Germany for me.

But tonight I’m on Tinos side – come on Colombia!!!!.

      (Quote)

  7. Ice – they’ve looked good so far as well to be fair mate, and Messi has decided to turn up as well. I think they look the strongest South America team. But Germany are just machines.

      (Quote)

  8. I’m at my local and my mate from Colombia just spilled his pint clear down his shirt. He’s not upset mind :). What a goal

  9. Does anyone think Pardew should be given a chance to manage England ? I think he deserves a chance. Couldn’t do any worse than Roy and it would be nice to get rid of him. No more excuses, no more lies about signing players and defending Mike for being a total cheap skate. I look at Swansea and think at least they have Bony and Gomis to score goals. I know there’s still time for Ashley to redeem himself but why wait until the world cups over. We can’t afford to buy over rated players that reach the final.

  10. Kim 1026 I bloody hope so. I celebrate and get totally drunk the day Ashley leaves the club.

  11. As I have a German grandmother I hope Germany win the world cup, unless it’s England of course.

  12. Hello people
Havent been on here for a while as to be honest after last season I have struggled to get excited about football. Even the World Cup hasnt fuelled it though the last 2 matches tonight have been good.
Though today I did get a glimmer of hope back that things would change for Newcastle. My dad was telling me about I guy he knows. He used to get my dad Newcastle away tickets as he either worked in some capacity at Newcastle or new someone there. Anyway he told my dad yesterday while waiting for his indians that the Toon has been sold. Apparently (and I say apparently as havent we all heard this before) a Canadian billionaire and some other billionaire have agreed to purchase it and they are holding back announcing it. The only reason I would think they would do this is if the have agreed a price but are now doing due diligence. This Canadian bloke does have roots back to Gateshead from either his dad or grandad being from their. I am sure I did read something about this Canadian billionaire a while back and wondered if anyone had heard anything like this or new who this billionaire is. If its the guy that I read about previously (I can’t remember his name) I’m sure he has a european office headquarters in Newcastle and his business is leisure, like hotels etc. As I say we have heard this all before but even if it gives me a glimpse of hope I will take it.

Forgive me for not believing it but i am sure you understand perfectly, why people would be cynical about that sort of claim.

If it is true though i am glad its getting done now and not after the season starts. Think i will go on a little google spree to see if i can find anyone to meet that description 😀

      (Quote)

  14. Santii I really hope it does happen to I honestly couldn’t say how realiable this guy who told my dad is as I have never met him. My Dad doesn’t seem to think he would make stuff like this up but as I say I honestly dont know but fingers crossed.
I am trying to find someone who matches that describtion now on google but can’t seem to find who it was I read about. I am sure this guy has been mentioned before about having a interest in the toon.

      (Quote)

  15. Albertstash I hope it is true. I don’t think Ashley is the man to take the club forward. His made money of Cabaye, Wonga, Virgin, T.V revenue and advertising sports direct etc. It sounds to good to be true but fingers crossed everybody.

      (Quote)

  16. The only canadian billionaire with hotels I can find on google is terry matthews who has offices in the u.s.a and u.k.

      (Quote)

  17. Albertstash
Sorry mate but what have you been smoking ? seriously it must be good stuff too be getting you too think up a story like that .

      (Quote)

  18. I thought this would have gone viral by now 😯
Oh well – Nice try Albertstash 😕

      (Quote)

  19. Well all I can say is that II was out drinking with a Canadian last night and I think I’m safe in saying it’s not him, a)he never mentioned it b) he’s not a billionaire and c) he’s a Man Utd fan and d) his lass would kill him, so there’s one we can scratch off the list…just 34m and odd to go 😛

  20. My sauce says a condition of the sale is that ***** Direct will remain the club sponsor for the next 5 years in lieu of payment of the clubs debt to fat ash.
    🙁

  21. Axel I haven’t been smoking anything as I am just relaying what I was told. Now I can’t vouch for what the guy that told my Dad was smoking 😆 .
Its probably an absolute load of rubbish but thought I would mention it and I appologise if it gets peoples hopes up but without hope what have we got left supporting Newcastle.
Also I think I have found the guy.
    http://www.thejournal.co.uk/business/business-news/success-newcastle-hotel-key-sandman-4416163
They are the Gaglardi family they own Sandman hotels. Apparently they bought the old Scottish and Newcastle site and have their European head office in Newcastle. They also own the shark bar and obviuosly the hotel next door to it. One of the sons owns a Major league baseball team. If you read the article in the Journal another one of the sons Bob Gaglardi has been living in Newcastle for the last 5 years. I can’t find any original link to Gateshead mind but this was the guy I read about ages ago.

      (Quote)

  22. The delay in releasing the new home strip, is because the new owner doesn’t want to keep the wango sponsorship if the deal can be completed in time. 😛

      (Quote)

  23. That should please Kim 😆
Also if you look at the photo of Colback at the top, the ball hides the wango sign.
All the clues are there for all to see.

  24. I reckon we can get this on ‘newsnow’ by the end of the day.
Questions will be asked in the houses of parliament by Wednesday, demanding a statement from the club.
    woo hoo
    I love sundays
    never a dull moment.

  25. Tash – I hope you’re right mate, but I wonder if its that piece of land that they’ve bought rather than the club?.
I would have thought we would have heard something if the club was being sold.
As your article shows, these people have already developed around SJP with the S&N site, so Im thinking it could well be the land that was mentioned a few months back.

      (Quote)

  26. Maybe we can get Troy back on the blog telling us all how he predicted this would happen.
Woo Hoo all aboard the reality train. 😛

There’s always someone to put a spanner in the works.
    Good point tho Sharpy
    Dammit ❗

      (Quote)

  28. Sharpy could well be mate that did cross my mind but I thought the council still owned that land and it was just the lease that was up for sale. To be honest I think at the moment I probably grab onto any hope that we will get rid of Ashley. It will happen at some point but hope it happens sooner rather than later.

      (Quote)

  29. Tash/Boots – I could be wrong, I just would have thought that something would have got out if it was the club that was being sold – even if it was some cheap ploy to sell more season tickets

      (Quote)

  30. Answering your question from last night i have always thought Cabella would eventually happen but drag on after he world cup. The path seems clear now for Lassogga wouldnt be my preference but i could see it happening.

As for the others i havent got a clue but Id like to see Pardew exploiting his slightly creepy stalker like “friendship” with Jose and bring some of their cast offs Ba, Marin, Chalobah, Bamford and Moses would all be decent for us…

      (Quote)

  31. CC – yeah the Cabella on was the only one I thought had a chance. I think Lasogga will probably stay in Germany personally. I’d prefer Lacazette but I see him going to a CL team.
I’d take any of those Chelsea cast offs – particularly the young ones like Chablobah and Bamford.

We obviously need 1st team players, but one player I’d like to see us sign is Ryan Gauld – 18yr old at Dundee United. My mate moved up there around Oct time last year with work and the company has a box at the ground. He went a couple of times and reckons he’s the Scottish Ross Barkley. I’m not sure he’s there yet but the kid is very good with bags of potential, and could be got at a decent price just now.

      (Quote)

  32. Albertstash, Oh god how I hope your dads mate is straight up. The thought of no Jabba and no Wonga has me all of a tis 😉

I have said before I do think he is looking to sell up if the price is right, I live in hope.

      (Quote)

  33. So the Greeks initially wanted Abied for 300k, now they don’t want to pay anything at all – instead they want agree a 50% sell on fee. Interesting offer, but I’d like to at least see what the kid can do in pre season – I don’t think he’s been a chance with us at all.

      (Quote)

  34. Well I warned you all this would happen but I got slated. 🙄

All aboard the Reality Train. 😉

  35. Wayhey look who’s back off his hols in Tibet.
    How ya doing Troy ❓

  36. Wow. I’ve not been on the site for a while through a sheer lack of enthusiasm, it appears I’m not alone. 😯

      (Quote)

  37. DJG there’s really nothing going in except the World Cup at the moment. Certainly nothing on the transfer front

      (Quote)

  38. Rocket from Holland, tough luck on Mexico that but one of those Dutch corners was gonna count sooner or later

      (Quote)

  39. Well Robben makes the most of it but it is a foul and to be fair Mexico could have given two or three away by now. Got to feel for them, but then as I drew the dutch in the sweepstake I’m quite happy! Just a shame that Krul won’t get a look in bar injury

      (Quote)

  40. NEWKIE
I don’t think Krul can have any complaints about it to be honest. Their no.1 is simply a better keeper who can kick it better and is stronger in the challenge.

      (Quote)

  41. So much for Costa Rica being the whipping boys every one predicted, 1.0 up now . If only England had brought as much endeavour to their game .

      (Quote)

  42. I have no interested in the crazy transfer speculation craic. It bores me rigid as rarely do the players mentioned actually get signed.

I’m alright Bootsy apart from that.
I will be back to keep you in check when the season starts or players are signed. 😉

      (Quote)

  43. ohh please do come back sooner Troy… you are dearly missed around here 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  44. DJG-Agreed, he can’t have any complaints but it’s still got to be hard for him. Keepers are just one of those positions where you’re unlucky I guess, as a sub appearance is hugely unlikely. Then again he doesn’t seem to be fancied much by the Dutch anyway and would probably still be behind Vorm.

      (Quote)

  45. Apart from that Spurs game, Krul didn’t have the best of seasons. Cost a fair few goals with his failed flaps at crosses and knock outs to opposing players. His kicking is poor and he ended up on his *** a few times coming out of the box. I still like him but he needs to get focussed a bit more. 5000% better than Elliot though.

      (Quote)

  46. Georgio-Agreed. I’m never confident when he comes out for a punch, and no question he was particularly at fault for a lot of the set piece goals we conceded, which was a fair old few. I still like him though and I want all of our players to try and represent their country in the world cup. It’s a sad state of affairs when I’m having to cheer on France because they have the most NUFC players 🙂

      (Quote)

  47. Kim – yeah Pardews comments certainly sounded like we’re heading back to France or abroad for any new recruits doesn’t it?!.
Would be interested to know who this £14m unproven is though?! – Rhodes, Ings or Will Hughes maybe?.
Proven at the level that they are currently playing I’d say.
The problem we have now is that £14m is no longer seen as a huge transfer fee.
Yes we’ve found some gems for around £5m in Cabaye, Debuchy and Tiote – but I don’t see us finding 4-5 of those in this transfer window.
We are found to have to spend some money – which clearly doesn’t come naturally to our bunch.

      (Quote)

  48. Kim – the other thing for me is that £12m for Debuchy is almost inviting bids in my opinion.
Arsenal and Man Utd could both do with a RB and £12m to them for a quality French international who be a snip. I know I said the other day we should sell him (before Santii posts the comment 😉 ). I’m not saying we shouldn’t sell him, but £12m is a low price tag in my opinion.

Georgio/Newkie – for me Krul is still young and has developing to do. I don’t think the Dutch no.1 is that good and I don’t think Vorm is **** hot either to be honest – but both are probably a bit better than Krul at this time. But I don’t see why he couldn’t put a challenge on that no.1 spot. However, his head may get turned in the meantime and he may feel that he needs to be at a more competitive side, than a team happy with mid table and avoiding any kind of European football.

      (Quote)

  49. Just to be clear, when I say we should sell Debuchy, only if he’s creating waves and wanting to leave – another Cabaye scenerio if you like.

      (Quote)

  50. Sharpy-agreed, Debuchy may be getting on but 12 mil in the current value is definitely undervalued. But we’ve already undersold Cabaye so why not Debuchy? We got him for 7 mil so Mike get’s a cheeky profit and unloads one of the higher earners with ambition (as we don’t want too much ambition in the squad!)

Sharpy-Issue is Cillessen is actually younger than Krul, sure Krul can improve but if this guy has the no.1 spot now then it will be tough for Krul to mount a challenge. Thing is Van Gaal is clearly a fan and maybe it’s because the lad plays for Ajax and he just sees more of him, but when he leaves the new bloke may see more in Krul. He has a chance but it’s just a shame he won’t get a world cup appearance this time around.

      (Quote)

  51. Sign Siem de Jong, Manolas, Ba/Lasogga and McCormack and Im happy,
    GK
    Santon Manolas Coloccini Haidara
    Colback Tioté Sde Jong Sissoko
    McCormack
    Ba/Lasogga
I dont think Debuchy will be huge loss, at the end of the day, we need quality upfront

      (Quote)

  52. Sharpy & Newkie, I will be very pissed off if we let him go for £12m, especially if like I say we been quoted £14m for some unproven English lad 😕 . He’s getting good reviews at the WC and £12m is daylight robbery imo, unless it’s a release clause fee I think it’s far too low, If Arsenal ,or whom ever want to sign him they can stump up a decent fee.
