Game On! Newcastle v Crystal Palace

Game On at St James' Park
Game On at St James’ Park
Afternoon all. Welcome to this ‘Game On’ article which today will take us through every twist and turn of the visit of Crystal Palace.

It’s game number three of the Premier League season and we’ve yet to register a win or a goal. If both of those change today it should promote a better feeling around the place as we head into the first international break of the campaign.

It’s also our last game before the transfer window slams (for some reason it always ‘slams’) shut which is quite topical given our lack of goal threat and until that deadline passes there will be a continuous cry for an extra striker. In fact even beyond the window our need for a reliable striker is apparent but I guess we’ll soon find out whether we end up with one or not. I suspect the latter.

Being a 3pm kick-off there is no live TV broadcast of the match here in the UK however there are reports of numerous overseas and online channels showing the game so if you know of a decent stream please don’t he shy and share it with us by posting the link in the ‘comments’ section below.

For injury news and full preview of the match you’re best advised to head over to the match preview which features a history of the fixture and some stats thrown in for good measure. For official team news please see below.

Which just about brings this to a close as there is nothing left for me to say. I just hope that come full-time we’re talking about a first league win of the campaign and with that a first league goal of the season.

Howay the lads!

  1. Not to worry mates. I’ll have more club insider news in a jiffy. I’m trying to get hold of Benny as we speak.

  2. wow, just realised, In the 5 seasons since be being promoted back to the premier league we still have the three centre-backs we came up with as our only choices.
    Now that’s stability 😯

  3. Finally, some words from Benny:
    “Do not worry, I am still ‘ere monsieurs. I luv zis cluuub. I luuv ze supporters. Eet is true I did not luuv the scarf from Alain but not to worry. I weel be ‘eere long beyond Monsieur Perdue. Vive la France!!!”
    That was wonderful Benny. Ta very much mate.

  4. What a club we are building. It’s like a painting by one of the Dutch Masters. It’s a revelation to other owners as to how to build. Hang your heads in shame Arsenal. Look to Mike for scabby tat and other forms of nasty money grubbing.

  5. i replied to mike sometimes you need to spend the extra 2 pound fifty for the good of the team. he wasn’t a happy bunny

  6. You would think that Cleverley and Borini would like to play football, more than tickle their egos as highest earners?

  7. Dear God!

    I’d like to announce the death of NUFC and the birth of footballs first testing company – Newcastle United Trading Ltd.

  8. Loan move, so he won’t play against us luckily for Pards or he could of put some egg on his face. So now we will have no chance of reinstating a player who could maybe get us a goal or two and we will be still paying part of his wages too. You couldn’t make it up.

  9. Glad to see Benny go if I’m honest.

    Strange to see Mbiwa go with out bringing in another CB. I imagine that could happen in January as well as a reassessment if the striker position

  10. If HBA goes to Hull that to me says two things:
    1) If Hatem is the saviour and can only get a move to Hull then our squad must be even more dire than we think and we should all keep schtum and support Pardew.
    2) If Hull are managing to match his wages (tbh you can tell by the other club’s business) then Fatty is an even bigger scrooge then those except a few (props to Stu etc) believed.
    Disgrace.

    There’s trying to understand Ashley’s cautious spending and there’s being stubborn. I fully agree that this is still a relatively decent period (top 10 finishes) for us in comparison to our history – but the direction we are going in is awful and irresponsible. Do you not think there should be more of a plan in place at the very least for our CB future? This is the very time we need someone to be steadily taking responsibility from Coloccini.
    In a year’s time Coloccini will be 33 and Williamson will be 31.
    What do you suggest then?
    Lascelles is back and with no Prem experience – fling him in as first choice along Willo?

  12. I think Hull want to replace us in the mid table slot.
    Good luck to them
    We will be scrapping at the relegation table until January, when we will panic buy to try and save the club.
    Total and utter shyte.
    We deserve what we get

      (Quote)

  13. 10 out
    7 in
    plus two in and back out on loan.
    No defenders no strikers
    shambolic once again

      (Quote)

  14. I’m sure Alan will say we tried our hardest in the last day 🙄 to get players in. He’s happy with his squad and he’s sad to see players leave…

    Puppet boy should not tolerate being slapped around by Fatboy. If he had any dignity he would walk away.

    Can’t believe we’re left with only Willo, Saylor and Colo 😯 . Hope the younguns are ready..

  15. Absolutely raging at the loss of both players because of that egotistical lying moron who masquerades as our manager. I hope it well and triely blows up in his face and he is ceremoniously dumped. Knowing how poorly our defence is playing could we really afford to lose an international centre back to a CL Team and pay 80 oercent of his wages, while we are left with Willo, Captain FistPumps and an ageing want away Colo who will no doubt suffer a flare up of his back and hop back to Argentina for a nice little break. We can hardly score goals and we let one of our best creative players leave.We deserve so much better than this. The lunatics have taken over the adylum. Last one out switch the lights out.

      (Quote)

  16. I see what is happening now.
    Ashley will take his £50M out of the kitty, buy Rangers, see us relegated and flog us on the cheap to the highest bidder.
    The fat bastid has the last laugh at our expense.
    We will be left in the championship, with a shyte squad and no chance of promotion.
    Bring it on I say.

      (Quote)

  17. I feel sorry for some of the players like Janmaat, De Jong, Cabella.

    They must of been promised the earth to sign here. Even Colo was told exciting things were gonna happen. Everyones been mugged again lol

      (Quote)

  18. Is it me or are we the only club not bringing people in?!
    9 signings made in a transfer window, yet we weaken our squad on the final day of the season.
    We get rid of 2 talented footballers because Pardew either can’t develop them (MYM) or can’t manage them (Benny).
    To bring nobody new in after a slow start to the season is disappointing – to get rid of 2 first team squad players is just fucking pathetic to be honest!.
    Pardew should be working to get Benny back into the team, not pushing him out the door to a rival club!.
    Also, we should have signed Abel Henandez and Toby Alderwiereld.
    I’m wasting my breath coz I knew this would be the case, but it doesn’t stop it from being annoying FFS!!

      (Quote)

  19. BB Toon till I die mate. If that’s what it takes to get rid of him then so be it. The championship isn’t so bad. We will rise again. I just wish he would put us up for sale and let us know his buying rangers.

      (Quote)

  20. **** straight Terry.
    I actually really enjoyed that season in the championship.
    Sat (stood) up in level 7 corner. The atmosphere was buzzing
    Happy days actually

      (Quote)

  21. Even Troy can’t defend Pardew for letting Barfa and MYM go. two players capable of helping a weak squad.

    He stopped the sale of Abeid so he obviously has a say in transfer dealings. Or was he just trying to act the big man, pretending he has authority.

      (Quote)

  22. Mark I don’t know about that ? Troy’s one of Pardew’s biggest fan’s and will most likely blame Ashley instead, which is fair.

      (Quote)

  23. Nastasic and Sinclair in the final hour? – Joel Campbell in? – fucking fat chance!!.

    Hull have signed Gaston from Saints on a loan, so not sure they will be after Benny as well?!.

      (Quote)

  24. Do we have enough in our squad. Two of our bench on Saturday were Dummett and Obertan. Neither would get a game at any other premier league side.

      (Quote)

  25. Someone said 12 out and 9 in this window. Can’t be arsed to check if correct but if its right – there’s no surpris

      (Quote)

  26. I don’t know why anyone is surprised by Barfa leaving. He’s not wanted at the club because he is fat, lazy and a trouble maker.

    We’ve let 11 go now.
    Out: Shola Ameobi, Dan Gosling, Luuk De Jong, Loic Remy, James Tavernier, Romain Amalfitano, Mathieu Debuchy, Sylvain Marveaux, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Mbiwa.

      (Quote)

  27. Troy, the majority of our players approaching the end of there contracts next summer will be moved on. HBA, Sammy Ameobi, Remy Streete plus a few more of the bairns will be moved on.
    A good mate of mine is a fOREST FAN AND HE RECKONS THE TWO YOUNGS UNs WE SIGNED WILL BE FUTURE eNGLAND GOALIES AND CENTRE HALVES. I just hope we survive in the EPL until they come good. Ashley is ripping the **** out of us.

      (Quote)

  28. Thanks, Troy. Wasn’t sure how many but I hope it shows people the reality of the situation at NUFC.

      (Quote)

  29. SSN just cut to David Craig outside of SJP – BREAKING NEWS: MYM has left …. cheers for that!!.
    Not a mention or question asked about incomings.

    Night all.

      (Quote)

  30. Troy – not surprised Benny has gone, but very disappointed that we start the season weaker than ever.
    We still have the same 3 CB’s we got promoted with 4 seasons ago.

      (Quote)

  31. BB – that’s the sad indictment if these so called nufc transfer committee – it’s embarrassing.

    The end!

      (Quote)

  32. Now that we have a bit of finality to everything let’s have a look at this transfer window;

    Remy = Rivière
    Cabaye = De Jong
    HBA = Cabella
    Strolla = Perez
    LDJ = Ferrerya
    Gosling = Colback
    Debuchy = Janmatt
    Marvauex = ????
    Mbiwa = ????

    Now I won’t put any credence to the release of Amilfatano and Tavernier as although they were first team squad members they just weren’t good enough.

    But I think it’s pretty clear and obvious to everyone now that NUFC under Ashley exists to stand still.

    Game over

      (Quote)

  33. Stu no doubt some of our fans will still be happy with our transfer window and think we are better off.
    For me I am not one bit surprised by the way things have went this window, I would just like to know where the top player every season that the sponsorship deal for the ground that lambastad told us about has went ? have we spent that money the Cabaye money or maybe the Debuchy money ?

      (Quote)

  34. Troy @ 736 I think it will take more than this for the penny to drop for some of our supporters 😕 they will still find positives to outweigh the negatives

      (Quote)

  35. So…basically what we expected with no incomings. Not shocked HBA left but really baffled that MYM was shipped out without a replacement. So who is going to take his place in the first team squad? I wonder if Pardew rates the likes of Streete and Satka as ahead of MYM…

      (Quote)

  36. Stuart@739-agreed. Definitely a weaker squad as far as I’m concerned, and the good work we started with has petered out and ended in big disappointment (for me at least) and we’re now going into the season without a win and a boat load more negativity from the fans, press, and probably players.

    Still we’ve cut 100k pw in wages today with Mbiwa and Ben Arfa…well done the club! 🙄

      (Quote)

  37. Why are people complaining that we just replaced players who left? We can only have so many players in our squad so this is his it works. Question is, how good will these new signings turn out to be?

      (Quote)

  38. TDS yeah I think Satka and/or Streete will get a chance now which I’m looking forward to seeing. I didn’t rate Mbiwa anyways

      (Quote)

  39. Forget HBA, he hardly played last year. You’re comparing us to last year and listing LDJ AND Cabaye when we never had them at the same time.

    Compared to thus time last year, we’ve lost Cabaye, Debuchy and Remy for SDJ, Janmaat and Rivière and you’re writing these players off already? That’s harsh…

    Then we’ve got Cabella to replace HBA who hardly played, Ferreyra as an additional striker that we wanted last summer but didn’t get, and Colback as a replacement for Gosling?? Gosling never plated and was useless! Perez for Ameobi? Is that a problem?

    Then hoping the likes of Aarons can stay around the first team…

      (Quote)

  40. MDS

    Didn’t rare him either and it looks like no PL did.

    I really hope Pardew’s faith is rewarded and one of those 2 comes good. Dummett can play there too I suppose…

    I wonder if this Forest lad is a long term replacement for Colo or Willo?

      (Quote)

  41. TDS – Sorry, I think you’ve been on the pop. If you think Rivière will score 14 league goals you’re drunk. If you think SDJ will be as good as Cabaye. You’re on weed and if you think we have a better squad, you’re going to need an awful lot of drink after we finish below tenth.

    We’ve also got a smaller squad than last year so you’re bollocks about having so many in a squad is pointless.

    You forget that we have only won 4 games in 9 months! That’s outrageous. Add it to the fact we are consistently amongst the worst defences in the league – what do you expect?

    Look at the form book, it doesn’t look good and it will only get worse. There just no reason why we can’t be spending decent money and getting dramatically better players. I hope it’s because Jabba is taking his money back to **** off out of Toon!
