Match Day Banter

After a full weekend of of football there is only one game left to complete the round. Newcastle United take on Stoke FC in a what could be described as a bottom of the table clash.

Magpies v Potters
Magpies v Potters

Newcastle currently sits second bottom thanks to the efforts of Burnley and Stoke sit a mere two points ahead. So with a win we could see Newcastle move up above Sunderland and equal on points with Everton and Hull. So it just goes to show how important a victory is and the the three points that comes along with it. It will be a tall order to travel to the Britannia Stadium and come away with a win as we are yet to get that all important first victory as yet. Stoke have not fared much better to be honest. They have just the one victory to date. So it has all the hallmarks of being a dour game and one can only hope that it rises above the promise that it is showing leading up to kick off.

I really hope Pardew starts with Cisse and Riviere up front and comes out attacking. We have nothing to lose at this stage and it would be nice to see some attacking intent. We have seen some improved performances of late and I am hoping that we can continue the slight rise in form. Stoke are there for the taking if we are good enough. I really hope we can pull of a win and get this season started proper. Howay the lads.

  1. I actually feel sorry for Alan Pardew. It really must be racking his brain as to just what must I do about this. The pressure he is under must be immense and it just keeps piling on and on.

  2. I don’t know whether that’s sarcasm, Michael but you’re probably bang on there. He surely can’t be thinking with a clear head.

  3. Why the **** is Sissoko not in the box for a freekick 😕 He’s one of our tallest players!

  4. No Newcastle player has scored away from home since March 1st.
Huge, huge kudos to our fans that go to every away game.

  5. We just need a bit of composure in the final third, we are snatching at chances because we are desperate to score.

  6. Stu, that’s harsh mate, we are getting forward plenty, just rushing it too much. I’m happy with the effort just worried about the counter attacks.

  7. 1st half summary – 40 mins before Stoke goalkeeper had anything to do says it all, we had best of procession but nothing really positive, there is vary little coming out of mid field in the way of skill, and up front is the same, struggling generally and Stoke are no great shakes at all.

Stoke are the sort of team if we are going to do anything, then it should be against teams like this, Bardsley, Crouch etc are other teams rejects.

  8. we are playing better football than stoke, but keep buckling under their pressure, gifting them possession and falling to the counter attack.
Didn’t even start playing until we went behind.
    sad

  9. we look so light when we’re attack, no real purpose, dither too often then we give the ball away..

id rather see Arma than Cabella, he hasn’t impressed me at all

  10. The whole club needs one massive makeover but unfortunately its not going to happen, was totally shattered when I heard that Liverpool junior teams had put 16 past us last week, does not look as if there is much there either, reserves in the lower league of reserve team football – Says it all about our club.

  11. #Kim and BB we are not playing football at all, Stoke are letting us go so far then calling a halt.

Tactics from set pieces and corners as so NAFF, that’s down to management.

Remember Gouffran should have been pulled for a penalty.

  12. Clear as day that we just don’t have a main scorer. We look totally toothless really, creating nothing clear cut. I see the only way back will be a special goal from outside of the box or a mistake.

We must take advantage of the fact were not 2 down and get at them. Need to watch the break though as Moses causing problems for us.

Think it is unfair to say Rivierre is not up to it. Who ever goes beyond him to create space for him. Cabella, Colback, Gouffran and Sissoko are all jigsaws

  14. Well that was a very average first half IMO and another **** poor goal to concede!.
I didn’t expect much more though to be honest when I saw the same line up.
If Pardew gets sacked tonight then he’s earned it IMO.
If he wanted to rest Cisse and ease him back in then fine, but then Armstrong should have defo been on that pitch supporting Rivière.

Lets see what happens in the second half – but don’t we have some record of never winning a game after going behind?

  15. I’m beginning to worry that Pardew is trying to get the sack. We’re losing so he just replaces a striker with a striker.

  16. Rivi is getting the same treatment as any of our forwards would get if played up front alone tbh, We don’t have a Costa type forward who can do that.

  17. Toby – There’s a few others too mate, not just Willo
Sissoko, Cabella, Goufran, all just as bad

  18. How this is only 1 nil is beyond me. We must take this as a positive as we are still in this game so can still get something from it.
