Match Day Banter

After a full weekend of of football there is only one game left to complete the round. Newcastle United take on Stoke FC in a what could be described as a bottom of the table clash.

Magpies v Potters
Magpies v Potters

Newcastle currently sits second bottom thanks to the efforts of Burnley and Stoke sit a mere two points ahead. So with a win we could see Newcastle move up above Sunderland and equal on points with Everton and Hull. So it just goes to show how important a victory is and the the three points that comes along with it. It will be a tall order to travel to the Britannia Stadium and come away with a win as we are yet to get that all important first victory as yet. Stoke have not fared much better to be honest. They have just the one victory to date. So it has all the hallmarks of being a dour game and one can only hope that it rises above the promise that it is showing leading up to kick off.

I really hope Pardew starts with Cisse and Riviere up front and comes out attacking. We have nothing to lose at this stage and it would be nice to see some attacking intent. We have seen some improved performances of late and I am hoping that we can continue the slight rise in form. Stoke are there for the taking if we are good enough. I really hope we can pull of a win and get this season started proper. Howay the lads.

  1. Cheers Aussie.
At least we have a new thread to chat on.
    Appreciate your effort.
I’ve had a feeling all weekend that we are going to scrape that all important win, that keeps Percy in a job at least until xmas.
Predicting defeat is the easy option 👿
    Howay the Lads

  2. Been throwing points away for fun hope Hughes sees sense and puts Huth in for Wilson to solidify the back 4.Not clicked yet but the signs are all there so I’m going 2-1 Stoke Assaidi and Diouf for us,with Cisse bagging his obligatory goal for you(4/5 so far for him).

  3. Well the Britannia is never an easy place to go, but Percy has managed to get a win there previously. Even though that was 3 years ago.
If he sets us up to contain as per usual, then we are doomed. But if he lets the Lads have a go at Stoke, then I’m not convinced their defence will hold up to our attacking fret.
Judging by the news over the weekend, I don’t see what Percy has to lose by going all out for the win.
If we lose, he will be out of a job anyway. (maybe ❗ ❓ )

  4. Cheers Aussie, don’t do forecasts but expect 100% effort, we have been very poor for quite some time with pardew tactics of playing one up front why he doesn’t go with two up front is beyond me even a change of tactics in some form would be nice to see, same as every game is becoming like a
old book, you get sick of reading it at least turn a bloody page ffs

  5. Moyes wants it then; A lot pointing out Evertons rigid style at times isnt totally dissimilar to Pardews, But are Ignoring the organisation & consistancy we severely lack.

Also should be said Everton in his last couple of years played some nice stuff and scored a lovely team goal at SJP, He has also been approached by Ashley twice and worked under similar constraints in the past.

Wouldnt be my first choice but it would certainly make sense

At least you justify your existence by doing an article once in a while. 😆
Better than your normal banter. 😆

Can’t possibly see how we can win tonight. Playing away from home amd Cisse on the bench. I don’t know why anyone predicts a win for us. It must be based on plain hold hope. 😉

  8. Surely Moyes wouldn’t just rush in and take this job on without some guarantees he will be backed by Mash.
It’s not like he needs the job, on a financial level, or the grief that goes with it.
I do think he could get us better organised and motivated than Percy, but whoever takes over will be seriously hamstrung by the poor quality of our squad, in depth. Until xmas at least.

  9. Tory – of course it’s based on hope.
    Its all we have.
I’m not comfortable with these fans that want us to lose, just to get Percy sacked. Whats that all about ?
    True fans my ****.
I never want us to lose, regardless the outcome.
And I certainly don’t think relegation is the answer either.

  10. I just re read my article….. Wrote it in a rush and I used the word “hope” in near on every sentence! 😆 tells me that I am not that confident about things atm.

  11. I can’t help but feel pessimistic about tonights game against Stoke. If Pardew plays 4 2 3 1 again then even less hope. I reckon 4-0 to Stoke but I hope I’m wrong.

  12. BB I reckon QPR and Burnley will be Pardew’s must win games mate. A couple of flukes and Pardew keeps his job.

      (Quote)

  13. Stuart79 What makes you believe it will be his last game mate ?
Jabba loves inflicting misery on the toon fan’s.

  14. Interestingly enough – a win tonight (albeit unlikely) would take us level with Hull who currently have the same goals against as us.
This is the team managed by Steve Bruce who some were touting as the next toon manager…. no thanks!

      (Quote)

  15. BB There’s nothing wrong with a fluke. Seat back and watch us defend for 80 minutes and if we our lucky enough to be 0-0 we might steal it. The only problem is we can’t defend and Pardew hasn’t realised that has he ?

      (Quote)

  16. Terry – We will be bottom on 3 points from 6 games with a tough away game to come. That is relegation material and his investment will be at risk.

      (Quote)

  17. We have been in relegation form since new years day.
But we are definitely near the point of no return as far as Mash is concerned. I don’t care what his lawyer says.
I just hope there is a plan in place for a replacement, before the axe falls.
We really don’t need this period of instability and uncertainty at the club yet again.

  18. Bootsy

You never base any of your opinions on facts. It’s all just hope.

Try being realistic and analyse our results over a long period and give me a valid reason why we will win tonight ?

I certainly don’t want us to go down. It would be a disaster. I don’t want us to get beat tonight. I want a convincing win.

I am just realistic. Of course we will win a few games this season. Every team does. I just don’t see it unless Cisse keeps up his form from last week. That again is unlikely based on the previous year.

That is why I predicted all this preseason and you had us down for a top 8 finish. 😉

      (Quote)

  19. @Bootsy

I don’t have you down as a leading member of The Clueless Crew for Nowt. ;-). I base my judgement of you on history, previous comments, predictions and statements. 😉

  20. Tory – I don’t think I have ever predicted top 8.
    Nice try though.
I have been calling for Pardew’s head for over 2 years.
I am realistic, but I just find it uncanny that Pardew can get results when he really needs to.
Stoke are proper **** and have an **** of a manager imho.
I just got a funny feeling we will get the win tonight, to put another spanner in the works.

  21. I see a boring 0-0. Although if Riviere gets some service (long shot I know) he might bag a goal.
    He was great against palace

      (Quote)

  22. Thanks Aussie.
Well god only knows what we’ll get served up tonight. Will it be the capitulation we saw v Saints or a good battle 😕 Amongst our weaknesses is chronic inconsistency. One minute the team look totally uninterested and like they are not playing for Pards yet another they are really going for it so I’m at a loss as to what to predict tonight. One thing is certain, this is a game we have to win if we are going to have a chance of not being rooted to the bottom, even so I don’t see a loss resulting in Percy getting the boot.

      (Quote)

  23. Moyes wouldn’t be my first choice but he’d be a safe and decent one. His job at Everton speaks for itself and I think he would have learned some lessons from his time I Manchester. We’d certainly be better organized and much more assured defensively

      (Quote)

  24. Not sure about Moyes, think it would be more dull footie but probably better organised I suppose. He had an epic fail at Manure with some decent players at his disposal, did they not play for him or is he simply not a big club manager.

      (Quote)

  25. Kim – he was hung out to dry at Old Trafford. I’m not a real fan but his record at Everton is pretty good even if the football wasn’t. 0-0 tonight.

      (Quote)

  26. The downsize is boring football the plus side is more consistency and organization. As I said a safe choice, though not an earth shattering one

      (Quote)

  27. Think Moyes failed as big name players didn’t perform for him – Ferdinand slated his training methods as really old fashioned and tactics as dull, said his ability to deal with players was wayward and that he constantly changed his mind on how they would be playing that week.

Think he’s no better than Pulis if I’m honest

      (Quote)

  28. As I said above Moyes isn’t my first choice but I’ll put more stock inhospitable success with Everton than sone sour grapes from Ferdinand

      (Quote)

  29. Absolutely no chance of Moyes. He is renowned for being very thorough on his transfer targets and likes to do most of the scouting, along with running the club from top to bottom and being responsible for every aspect of the club. How would that fit in with Ashley and Carr? Not very well, that’s how.

Think someone more like Dave Hockaday or Steve Cotterill.

  30. Cheers Aussie I just hope we give a decent account of ourselves, though I still think we might just nick the game

Kim from the last thread I wasnt ignoring you I just couldnt reply from my phone when theres more than 200 odd comments, alls good with me just dont go on the computer much now so have to rely on my phone or the wifes laptop if its free 😀

  31. hopefully Pardew has learned we can’t start with one up front, thats just inviting trouble..

But i’m sure we’ll start with one up front..

      (Quote)

  32. Stu@34, Hands off Steve Cotterill, he’s currently doing great stuff with my hometown club Bristol City 😉

Dave@35, Glad alls well mate, keep forgetting the too many comments thing.

      (Quote)

  33. Where is the truth in the Moyes story?
People forget that whilst at Everton he was on approx 80k per week.
No way would Ashley pay anywhere near that!!!
Fancy Stoke to beat us 2-0 with the FOOL surviving for at least 2/3 more matches.
    Hey ho 🙁 🙁

      (Quote)

  34. I predict the same team that started against Hull and before that against Southampton exc Williamson. Says it all really about out squad.

But can see us being ok on the ball, miss a few chances and watch Stoke score.

      (Quote)

  35. I see M’biwa has been getting some great reviews for Roma. Pity the FOOL saw him as a RB!!!!!

      (Quote)

  36. Been unable to get on the blog recently but given the last week I’m feeling a bit sorry for Pardew.
He’s an average at best manager and I’m sick of the sight of him so wouldn’t mind taking a gamble on a new manager but in the past when he has had stability and a half-decent squad he has done decent (not with the greatest of football).
Ashley has once again that he is the club cancer. His “joke” comments are a disgrace and do two things:
Lessen the respect the players have for Pardew even more!
+ Surely provide yet another deterrent for any potential new manager.
    Fucking shambles!
Ever the delusional optimist when we set foot on the pitch – I’m going for a 2-1 Toon win.!

Mark I will be amazed if he doesn’t go with one up front.
    .
    .
    That’s you amazed then Kim.
Same team that played against Hull.
One up front in a 4-2-3-1
    ffs 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿

  38. So without a league win in five, yet the manager sees no option but to name almost the same team… Shocking lack of options really. 😯

      (Quote)

  39. According to Trevor Morley Graham Carr is disgusted that Mbiwa has been loaned out. Carr told him apparently.

More cracks appearing in Ashley’s lopsided structure.

  40. Jabba here too. He’s turning up a lot recently. Maybe he can’t believe the reports that were that bad.

  41. 👿 comeback is on..in the 65th minute when Pardew brings on another striker.

We are inviting pressure all the time, playing back then long balls
