Match Day Banter

After a full weekend of of football there is only one game left to complete the round. Newcastle United take on Stoke FC in a what could be described as a bottom of the table clash.

Magpies v Potters
Magpies v Potters

Newcastle currently sits second bottom thanks to the efforts of Burnley and Stoke sit a mere two points ahead. So with a win we could see Newcastle move up above Sunderland and equal on points with Everton and Hull. So it just goes to show how important a victory is and the the three points that comes along with it. It will be a tall order to travel to the Britannia Stadium and come away with a win as we are yet to get that all important first victory as yet. Stoke have not fared much better to be honest. They have just the one victory to date. So it has all the hallmarks of being a dour game and one can only hope that it rises above the promise that it is showing leading up to kick off.

I really hope Pardew starts with Cisse and Riviere up front and comes out attacking. We have nothing to lose at this stage and it would be nice to see some attacking intent. We have seen some improved performances of late and I am hoping that we can continue the slight rise in form. Stoke are there for the taking if we are good enough. I really hope we can pull of a win and get this season started proper. Howay the lads.

  1. I think Jabba was beaten up by a Geordie in his youth and vowed to get rich buy the Toon and wreck all our hopes. Never seen such a spiteful guy as him, not an ounce of compassion in his body, a tool of the highest order who is clinging on to a past his sale by date manager. 👿 👿

  2. One thing that is quite disturbing actually is that even this early in the season we need to win at least 30% of our remaining league games to guarantee staying up. That’s quite depressing.

      (Quote)

  3. Stuart – and what is Percy’s average win percentage ❓
must be close to that 30% at a guess.

      (Quote)

  4. Stu – we ain’t gonna achieve that by continually playing with only 1 centre forward, that’s for sure!.

What’s annoying is that Stoke didn’t look good at all last night. They were the home team, but they certainly didn’t steamroller us at all.
It’s all well and good Pardew claiming we don’t have to quality in attack, but he’s asking players to perform a role that doesn’t come naturally to them. Yet when they are played in the right positions or get the right player in the right position, we look far better – trouble is, by that time we are already behind in the game and there is little time left to do anything.

      (Quote)

  5. I think we will struggle to achieve that with these players. We can talk about the systems but the facts are that we don’t create clear cut chances so whether we have 1 or 2 strikers it doesn’t really matter.

It’s absolutely frightening that we have signed 3 strikers this season and two of them are playing reserve games. I think that says it all about them. But I just don’t see thee creativity. Without that and without decent strikers were completely knackered and I don’t care who comes in, we will struggle.

  6. Are there 3 worse teams than us this season in the EPL ❓
This has to be Mashley’s gamble.
The answer has to be, yes, clearly.
    Burnley
    QPR
    and the Mackems.
But that’s one hell of a gamble for Mash to pull off.

  7. To be fair before a ball is kicked in any season you need to win 30%of your games to avoid relegation, so no change in that respect.

      (Quote)

  8. Yes Stuart, as has been said by many, we have NOT replaced Cabaye’s creativity.
Cabella has a long long way to go. tbh whoever scouted him needs shot.
Siem de Schlong is NOT his replacement either.
It was said by many he would be injury prone and that has been borne out too.
Finally no replacement for Remy is a travesty, considering there were strikers available in our price bracket. Quite simply NO excuse.
Pardew should have been jumping up and down like a spoilt brat til he got what he needed. Although he did say we have the strongest team since he took charge 😯 😳
    Shows what he knows.
To many, it was obvious the players we brought in were ok, but we needed the extra quality to go alongside them to complete the team.
And now we are in a mess. Pure and simple.

      (Quote)

  9. Swansea next and Alan will stick with his awful tactics 4 2 3 1. We will lose again but what really frightens me is playing team’s like Spur’s, Manu, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and dare I say it Sunderland and that’s before xmax. Ashley has seen the games and he must do something now before it’s to late. Paying Pardew off and his backroom staff would be cheaper than getting relegated. Get another manager in, the sooner the better.

      (Quote)

  10. Rich – Miscalculation. We need to win circa 38% of our games now then.

But I notice Pardew it is claimed is making changes for Saturday, including dropping Gouffran for Obertan. I think that tells you everything we need to know about why we’re in this mess. We could also play a half fit striker who scores about a goal every 5 games, a youngster who hasn’t scored a goal yet or a Argentinian who can’t even make the reserves. Where can Pardew turn?

      (Quote)

  11. Stuart, where can Pardew turn?? Well how bout trying two fecking strikers for a start… he hasn’t bothered even giving it a go let alone worrying about what cobination of players that will be used… Your call about the lack of quality is a moot point because he hasn’t even given a different set up a chance to work… He sets his teams up to suit his confidence level…. he is a scared of losing and our team plays the same way…. We have a mid table team playing well below their form….. is the the team great…no….. is it as bad as you and your parrot Troy suggest… no… we are just poorly managed..

      (Quote)

  12. Aussie – Little strange that you’re constantly protecting the players. Pardew must be completely stupid to keep telling the defenders to make elementary mistakes, the supposedly creative players (whoever they are) to not create anything and the strikers to miss chances.

      (Quote)

  13. Stuart, they are playing fearful football mate.. near on every player can play better than what they are showing at the moment. Like I said, they are not the greatest but they are performing well below where they should be at! I can’t wait to see the back of Pardew to be honest.. he has not got what it takes to motivate the team out of this mess! We can’t change the team at this stage but we can change the manager. . Some thing has to give.. the results are not acceptable!

      (Quote)

  14. didnt Pards say this squad is in good fettle and we’re aiming for champions league 😯 😆

    Wheres chuckie??
    wheres Barfa??
    Wheres Mbiwa??

Even Marv looked more creative than Cabella, so too Armstrong and Abeid..

we’ll still stick with one up front.

Only two positives for me has been Sammy (just) and Obertan (just)

      (Quote)

  15. Stuart – are you expecting the players we have to be perfect like ❓
The very best players are still human, and make ricks, but if we admit that our players are just mediocre at best, then they are going to make even more riks.
No one is saying the players are blameless, but the point most of us are making is that they are being badly mismanaged and poorly coached by the muppets.
Of course they could do better, but they are starting from a low base, with the dour, negative, defeatist tactics and setup that they are starting every match with.
All that comes from Pardew. They are feeding off his cowardly ****.
Its no wonder the results are so bad.
If you want to see more from the players, then a change of manager/coaches is essential now. IMHO

      (Quote)

  16. Mark – I thought Abeid put in a good performance the other day. There’s a bit of hope there. Arma too.

      (Quote)

  17. I see Collo and Willo have come out in support of Pardz.. Two players that have played poorly to date are backing the manager… wow they must fear for their starting spots on the weekend! 😆

Don’t worry lads, Pardew is too scared make any changes so you will both start!

      (Quote)

  18. Aussie and BB – Are you seriously telling me that it’s Pardews fault that full backs don’t stop crosses, centre halves seperate like the Red see, have no pace and don’t mark opposition players? Does he coach them to do that?

Is it Pardew’s fault that we have just one creative player and he’s still adjusting to the English game? is it also Pardew’s fault that the strikers we have just keep missing the few chances they’re getting?

How you can say they’re pkYjng with fear is beyond me; we keep having the majority of possession in most games. Players with fear get rid of the ball asap – they don’t keep hold of it and boss possession.

The facts are if you don’t have players who can score and don’t have very good defenders you will struggle. 😯

      (Quote)

  19. By the way, I’m not saying Pardew should keep his job. I feel his time is up, but it will be much of the same with a new manager once an initial new manager bounce is over.

      (Quote)

  20. No discipline instilled into the defensive unit…
Also the parting of the red sea is a fairy tale mate! 😉 Newcastles’ football is no fairy tale 😆

      (Quote)

  21. Stuart – @ 323
    yes
    yes
    no
It’s not that he is coaching them to be bad, of course not. Just that he isn’t coaching them to STOP making the basic mistakes they are making.
He is after all the DEFENSIVE coach.
Can he not see the mistakes being made over and over again ?
Can he not get them to play better as a unit ?
Why has he made Colo undroppable ?

  22. Can’t blame Tiote for wanting to leave this shambles of a club.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see more transfer requests going in.
There is little point in plying your trade at this club.

      (Quote)

  23. Newcastle had 17 shots on goal, just one on target, and 56 per cent possession. In the first-half especially they were dominant in terms of chances and touches of the ball, many of them in Stoke’s half.

Doesn’t sound like a team playing with fear or no confidence.

How can managers stop individual players making simple mistakes? If that was the case then Williamson would be playing for Chelsea as Jose would be able to turn him into a top defender.

      (Quote)

  24. Obertan is more creative than Cabella 😯
Cabella is looking like a very poor Ben Arfa
Particularly when played as a winger alongside Sissoko and Goufran who have both been dreadful so far.
    Jesus what a mess

  25. It wasn’t until we had gone 1-0 down and chasing the game that we started to have a go at stoke.
Before that we had tried to contain them and slow the game down with our usual dross anti-football.
Our attacking four (ha!) were ineffective against a well drilled Stoke defence.
I admit our players are not good enough to play in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

      (Quote)

  26. BB@328 true mate let’s be really honest what has the club got to offer him?nowt imo, of course willo, collo will say they back pardew 100% because if we are honest again what would be the future for willo a club in
CC if he’s lucky and collo is coming to the end of his playing time so both will hang on to what they have at the minute a bit like pardew

      (Quote)

  27. The mistakes Pardew has made have been with HBA, Mbiwa and Marvauex but I would wonder if they were his decisions. Maybe Ashley told him if they’re not going to play regular they need to go?

      (Quote)

  28. It’s all getting a little depressing now. I was slightly buoyed thinking that another defeat would see the back of AP but, oh no, now he won’t get sacked if we lose at Swansea. That’ll be 1 win in 15. Unbelievable.

See Routledge now under consideration for England. Wouldn’t mind him still here along with MYM and HBA.

Tiote can join them for me. The way other teams just gallop past our midfield is embarrassing especially with the chuckle brothers to face. Every team has now sussed this along with playing long high balls towards Colo. He just can’t deal with it especially if it’s bouncing.

      (Quote)

  29. Maybe everyone should start chanting Pardew’s name at the games and Ashlwy would surely sack him then. Rumour has it he wasn’t too happy that Hughton got his name chanted at games.

      (Quote)

  30. Georgio – here’s a glimmer of hope for you then mate:

    http://mobile.newsnow.co.uk/A/736268632?-11058:809:t

Now before certain folk shoot me down, I know it’s just a behind closed doors friendly – but to beat anyone 8-0 under any circumstances would still suggest that there are options in the squad.
I don’t see how you can say the players aren’t good enough when they aren’t getting the chance to prove themselves in the first team.
We have a very young squad – youngest in the league I believe. So what they need is encouragement and faith shown in them. Man U, Everton, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool all do it. We have nothing to loose and the 11 that Pardew keeps going with are badly underperforming, so why not give put them in and see what they can do.

      (Quote)

  31. Stu – the fans do chant Pardews name at the games. However it’s generally followed by …. is a ******!!. 😆

As for Tiote. I would say that he’s without doubt the best captain we have in our squad at the moment. I do like Tiote, but he isn’t irreplaceable. However, him wanting to leave Newcastle is just another sign that senior players at the club have had enough

      (Quote)

  32. Who can blame them Sharpy. I’ve lost all faith in Tiote. As I said earlier other teams are just running through our midfield onto the CBs like Moses on Monday. If Tiote is to play then he needs to STAY just in front of the CBs. Otherwise I’d much prefer Anita there. He has real pace, quick feet and good passing. He’s small that’s true but he has a brain too. Tiote plays like a dimwit.

      (Quote)

  33. Georgio – personally I’d prefer to see Colback and Sissoko in the middle and then play Abied or SDJ (when he’s fit) in front of them – or Anita come to think of it.
We have a load of CMs in the squad, so if we lost Tiote and brought in a Nathan Redmond for example, I wouldn’t complain too much.

      (Quote)

  34. So we know the reserve players are at a higher standard than Carlisle at least.
Perez has a good positive attitude and at least puts his all into it.
He is pushing for first team start, so Pardew will want to get rid of him in January 😳 (should he still be here 👿 )

      (Quote)

  35. Is it not worrying everyone that we have yet to win this season but the manager still doesn’t see the likes of Perez or Ferrya as a better alternative? Maybe they’re just not showing enough in training?

    Lets look at the alternatives where we are struggling;

Defence: Taylor is the only alternative centre half – opps. Drummet or Hadaira are one and the same and right back??

Creative Midfielders: Obertan – dear me. Ameobi – Had long enough and doesn’t look good enough. I’m struggling now.

Strikers: Perez – He’s young and inexperienced. Arma – Same as and difficult position to bring youngsters in. Ferrya – WTF? Cisse – Scores about 1 goal every 5 games.

As you see there aren’t any better alternatives so until January when we can only hope to bring in the players we need, we will struggle whoever the manager is. 😥

      (Quote)

  36. BB – No I am sure we will pick up a win here and there, but I see us in the bottom three at Christmas.

      (Quote)

  37. Stu – Saylor isn’t the only CB, there is Streete and Satka there as well mate. Untested, but doesn’t mean they will be gash.
I worry about how this squad will fair under Pardew, but I honestly believe a David Moyes or Tony Pullis would get better from them.
At the moment they just look like a bunch of decent players without any kind of direction or game plan.
No doubt we need a 15 goal a season CF and CBs need improvement – but even with those current weaknesses, we should be doing better than what we are.

      (Quote)

  38. Fixtures up to end Dec 2014
    Swansea City (a)

    West Brom (a)
    QPR (h)
    West Ham (a)
    Burnley (a)
    Chelsea (h)
    Arsenal (a)
    mackems (h)
    Manchester United (a)
    Everton (h)

You’re right, we should be able to get something from the Leicester, QPR, Burnley and mackem matches.
So lets just say 15 points by New Year.
With 57 points to play for.
    So there is still hope

      (Quote)

  39. Does anyone know how many spaces we have on the official squad list.
ie how many players do we need to shift out before we can strengthen again.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the squad can be a maximum of 25 over 21’s of which 8 must be home grown and unlimited U21’s ????
If that is right, then we are already full.

      (Quote)

  40. Interesting they pulled Ayoze at the half last night. Surely that means a start is in order for him this weekend as part of the promised lineup changes. Of course it doesn’t really matter so long as Pards insists on playing one up top.

  41. So

None other than Mapou Yanga Mbiwa.
    ya couldn’t make it up.

      (Quote)

  42. Sharpy – You think it’s fair to throw Satka or Street in the team when it’s performing like this? Do you think that would improve the defence? There’s generally a reason why they aren’t playing and it’s probably because they’re not good enough.

      (Quote)

  43. Beardsley Boots it’s a wonder how Pardew can’t find a use for him with us. I thought he did well against Spurs and Chelsea last season. 2 difficult clean sheets and then gets dropped for Colocini. Colocini is past his best now and we need him here to replace him now URGENTLY. I got nothing against Colocini because his been a loyal servant to the club. Why is Pardew having personality problems with our best players and forcing them out ? Can someone explain to me because I’m confused. I’m also confused about the fact we didn’t hire a descent centre back for 10-15 million ? We lacked goals when Cabaye and Remy were gone. It makes me wish we kept Shola and that really saying something because I never really rated him but he did have the odd game.

  45. Im sorry but pards is the manager of this football club. He needs to learn how to manage.

Hes an idiot. Simple and easily influenced by outside pressure. He took manu off for Cisse. Why? We needed a goal? Because it worked flukeily with Hull he thought it would work again?

Riviere had got a brace midweek and looked good against palace, but even in that game he desperately needed support. So what does pards do? Takes him off. Mind boggles.

Gouffran has been dire for ages. Stick armstrong in at least he will try?

Pards seems to lack the basic brain power required to manage. End of. The gulf in intelligence between him and someone like Martinez is astounding.

Rant over…roll on swans so the constructive dismissal issue can be put to bed

      (Quote)

  46. I just dont buy this argument that it doesnt matter who manages we will still struggle?

Im sorry anyone think that Palace and Leicester have considerably better players than us? The reason they are doing well is they are managed correctly, intelligently, organised and each know their specific roles.

Im not discounting confidence of course its vital but again a new manager can bring fresh confidence and especially desire to perform.

The players know that pards is a walking corpse

  49. Laim agree with you totally. Armstrong is doing really well and I doesnt pick him either ? I still don’t get why we didn’t pick him at the end of last season. Pardew is an idiot but I can’t just knock him. Ashley is the biggest idiot out of them all.

      (Quote)

  50. I’ll defend Oatda a little on Armstrong. You don’t want to have to put a too much pressure on a 17 year old by throwing him into this current mess. Ideally you’d want to bring him along slowly and get him confidence.

Still, there seems to be something about the lad and he may offer a bit of creativity that others don’t

  51. I heard that an online casino wanted to take over our shirt sponsorship anyway.

  54. Stu – of course I do, why is that so ridiculous?!. Our best performing players so far this season have been the younger ones.
How do you know they aren’t good enough until they are played?!. These lads aren’t made of glass you know, and what good is it keep sending them out on loan to lower division clubs?.
I’ve watched Satka a couple of times now, and played at CB he looks very good. Aarons and Armstrong look PL quality without doubt, and I think Dummett is a PL player with further developing to do.

Look at Villa last season mate. Almost all of their first team were kids, and whilst they weren’t challenging for the league, it also didnt break them either.
If our senior players aren’t doing it, then put the promising young players in instead.

I actually think what Pardew is doing to them is more destructive. ie playing them for 10-20mins in a game then sending them back to the reserves or out on loan. For me, Sammy done enough last season to warrant a run in the side. But after a few decent games, Pardew sacked him off to the reserves again, knocking his confidence and probably leaving him thinking, what’s the point coz ill not be given my chance.

      (Quote)

  55. I would agree with that Sharpy mate.
But Percy has his favs who always seem to get priority regardless of form or fitness.
What is he waiting for ???

      (Quote)

  56. Boots – which is exactly why I don’t think people can say the squad isn’t good enough. Players don’t get a fair crack of the whip under Pardew, and it won’t be until another manager comes in before we know for sure.
If, as Stu suggests, they aren’t good enough, then why haven’t they got rid of them in the summer?!.
