The real reason United fans aren’t sad to see Pardew go

The myth behind the man
The myth behind the man
If, as expected, Alan Pardew is confirmed as Crystal Palace manager it leaves our club with a position to fill.

From the outside it looks as though Pardew has done a decent job at United with some sections of the media branding our treatment of him unfair during recent rumblings of discontent.

We keep hearing that we finished fifth, that we have unreasonable expectations, that our final league positions have been alright. Apparently we expect Champions League football and should just pipe down because we’ve won nothing for years and should just be happy with staying in the Premier League.

However I’ve stumbled across a page of facts that at least paint a fairer picture of why so many fans were becoming unhappy. As I said in a previous article, you can’t dine out on a fifth placed finished forever, but I’d like you all to cast your minds back to the end of the 2011/2012 season where times were happier and we’d just unexpectedly qualified for the Europe League. Now I’d like you to take a look at the table below…

Points table

All of these statistics have been compiled since we finished fifth so there are two complete seasons plus the games we’ve played this season which is quite sizeable example in fairness. They also compare with teams who have remained in the Premier League for the entire period. So, starting from the top left….

Games Won: These stats cover a total of 95 league games of which we’ve won 32. That’s a win ratio of just over 33%.

Games Lost: Of the 95 games, we’ve lost 45 which is 47% of our league games since the 2011/2012 season.

Clean Sheets: It’s not good reading here either as we’ve managed to maintain a clean sheet on just 21 occasions. Granted it’s unfair to land all of that at the feet of Pardew but there are signs that the defence needs work which have gone unheeded.

Failed to Score: We’ve fired blanks in 33 of these of these 95 games. Only Stoke and Aston Villa have failed to find the net more than us.

Goals For: Not good reading here either with just 107 goals scored, or an average of just over one per game.

Goals Against: A total of 153 goals conceded – 1.6 per match – the worst of the 15 teams sampled.

Goal Difference: A net goal difference of -46 which has only been ‘bettered’ by Aston Villa and their goal difference of -55.

Total Points: We’ve amassed 113 points – just under 1.2 each game.

Some of them aren’t bad but others are chronic and should help with why some fans have just had enough. Remember we’re not even talking about the waffle, flannel, headbutts, pushes, swearing, record losing streaks, historic runs of derby defeats and other incidents that have happened on his watch.

I’ve written this because I was stood having a coffee yesterday and was talking about football to a colleague. The subject came up about Pardew to Palace and his response was the same as many on the outside have said – “I thought he was doing OK for you lot,” he quipped. After a while pointing things out he got where we’re coming from.

So if you find yourself in a situation like that, whip this article out on your phone and show people that all has not been rosey in the garden of St James’ Park for some time and that we’re not a reactionary bunch. We’re just fed up with the excuses.

Agree or disagree?

I said your posts showed hatred of Carver

I was just giving you some choice words you’ve used regarding Carver. Shyte, ugly angry man who shouldn’t have got the job could be construed by some as hatred.

    That’s my point.

  2. I am not surprised were out of the FA cup. Mike doesn’t want to spend anything this january. He doesn’t want us to pick up more injuries by being in the cups. All that matters to him is getting our remaining players fit again and finishing 10th. It’s not what a fan want but he doesn’t care about that. I wonder how much profit he made last season. 30 million probably and that’s not including Wonga, Puma, Merchandising, etc. There is money for a striker and centre half but he wants all the money to himself. He will sale Sissoko and get a few cheap frenchie’s in the summer but if 52,000 people turn up like everything’s okay then nothing will ever change.

  3. This is what I said @1159. I have to repeat myself because someone on this blog keeps trying to twist what I say and suggest there is a vendetta against Pardew and now Carver:

“There are other options to Carver.
Carver is a continuation of the Pardew methods and toadying.
    We should get someone else.
There are others out there better than Carver.”

      (Quote)

  4. Troysta: I absolutely believe Carver to be shyte, angry and ugly. That is not me being angry though it is me stating the obvious.

  5. Psychs

I know what you are saying. I’ve never been confused. You make it very clear

You hated Pardew and now you hate Carver.

      (Quote)

  6. I will say this again as well: if Carver wasn’t at NUFC would you recruit him to be a manager of one of the biggest clubs in the country? F@ck no. He would be below, McClaren, Pulis, Bruce, Hughes, Sherwood and many others from France and Italy.

How can saying I don’t want Carver as Manager of our great club be a bad thing??? Unless you have a stupid agenda of trying to defend Pards.

      (Quote)

  7. Eric spot on, he is just an extension of Percy without the blather post match. Percy is still here in all but name basically .

      (Quote)

  8. Troy, I think you’ll find many of us have been slagging off Percy and the whole coaching set up which would include Carver. Who has ever called for him to be boss anyway ❓

      (Quote)

  9. at least Cardew explained the injuries to Colllllback, Colo ect 😛 😛
& he also admitted the future of this football club is over the next few weeks, so maybe they did have light injuries and he didnt want to take the risk…?

whether he’s lying or telling the truth, the players that did play had no passion.

      (Quote)

  10. Troy man: I don’t hate Carver. I was being facetious about him being ugly. Quite a lot of what I say is meant to be ironic, you know as in irony. But you wouldn’t get irony if someone hit you with an irony bar.

      (Quote)

  11. Mark: Troy probably doesn’t remember that he called you out for misspelling Colback’s name ect., mate.

      (Quote)

  12. Troy what you should of sed is cambell would have run his bollocks off and would have at least hit the target hence chance of scoring 😉

      (Quote)

  13. Psychs

You don’t know him personally. You didn’t know a Pardew. I don’t for a second think you hate him as a human being. But for the purposes of being a toon manager you hate him.
You’ve described him as ugly, angry, toady, you never wanted him as manager ager and would not give him the job. I described your views towards both as hatred.

Is that a hard point to agree to?

      (Quote)

  14. Now that Pardew has quit, he wasn’t sacked FFS, who would I prefer to Carver?

The one’s I named above from England.
Every manager in the top half of German, French, Italian and Spanish Leagues.

I don’t rate Carver at all, nor Stone. They should have been sacked before Pardew for their complicity with the Williamson free kick routine.

      (Quote)

  15. Troy i agree but he wasent there now you doing what you acuse others of which of the 2 ,ide have played shearer and fery if they were there ❓

      (Quote)

  16. And Troysta: I am not naming my ideal choice for NUFC manager, I am saying I would prefer many others to Carver.

      (Quote)

  17. Batty

Of the two, I would have played Campbell. However, my point is, Perez was available for selection but wasn’t even picked for the bench. That is why I say the club is not interested in the cup and the manager is told not to take it seriously. The next manager will have to do exactly the same

      (Quote)

  18. Psychs

I choose the word hatred in terms of him being the toon manager. The descriptive words you use are enough to make me come to that conclusion. Only Betsy and the odd other poster use such words.

Over the top **** really. That’s all I’m saying.

I know you don’t want him as the manager. Neither do I
    I didn’t want Pardew.

However, you better get used to it, because you won’t get anyone better than Pards.

Whether it’s Carver or another, they will have to be Ashleys puppet, play by his rules, limited budget, no say on who comes amd goes, not take the cups seriously and be Ashleys spokesman.

I don’t see how you don’t see it. You can call for Carver to go. But you will get exactly the same issues whoever it is

I predicted you would criticise the next manager after Pardew. Carver was always going to be the stop gap at least. You have not even given him a game in charge.

As soon as Carver goes, you will be saying exactly the same within months.

It’s great watching you. I’m not bothered about the next appointment cos I expect nothing but mediocrity. You expect better. You won’t get it.

      (Quote)

  19. Troysta: you really do like to twist stuff. If you want I can reference quite a few times you do it on this thread alone. I can’t be bothered though, because you will just deny it anyway 🙂 You really are in your own little world.

As I said, you should be hit with an irony bar.

On a biting scale, Troy has caught more fish than birdeye, but this fish Eric seems to enjoy being thrown back only to take another bite 😛

On a humour scale, Eric wins hands down, he’s a funny guy 😉

      (Quote)

  24. MM: I agree that it is pointless to argue with Troy and I am spoiling it for other people, but otherwise he just gets away with his stupid shyte all of the time. I am sure you are immune to it by now.

I will try not to respond to his wind ups 🙂

      (Quote)

  25. Or can we not have another side link, The Eric & Troy show.. where the real craic lives 😯 😛

      (Quote)

  26. Eric and Troy, don’t take any notice of me…it’s free space at the end of the day… 😉

  27. Eric I think you should tell him who you really are 😉

  29. Psychs

Take no notice of Brett Strength. He knows you aren’t biting just defending your point of view. That’s good in my book.

Are you going to print those points where I’ve twisted things on this thread ?

      (Quote)

  30. Troysta @1240: I can’t be bothered to go through 1240 posts just to prove my lame point man. I really don’t think I have to either, people can read for themselves.

  32. Easiest thing in the world to say: “he’s a card”, “he’s a joker”. Lamest comeback in the history of comebacks, but what would you expect?

      (Quote)

  33. From The Daily Star so it must be true – ABC (Anyone But Carver):

“And Newcastle are drawing up a shortlist of potential successors with Frenchmen Christophe Galtier and Remi Garde viewed as possible replacements.

St Etienne’s Galtier and Lyon’s former Arsenal midfielder Garde are both 48.

Garde left his position as Lyon manager at the end of last season, citing personal reasons. And Galtier’s current side are currently fourth in Legue 1.

It is also said that Newcastle have been impressed with the job being done at north east neighbours Middlesbrough by Spaniard Aitor Karanka, 41.”

      (Quote)

  34. I’m loving this
multiple managers oops 😳 head coaches ruling themselves out of the worst job in football.
Clearly only a mug would want this job now.
I said before and I say again we should hound out all and any puppets Masher put in place.
Charver has had a taste today of what is instore if he wants to become the next puppet. Couldn’t give a **** if he is a Geordie or not. Sell your soul to the fat bastid and reap the rewards.
I have a feeling the club is at a crossroads.
Many fans want to see the club moving forwards after Parsnip, not stagnating.
Some dickheads of course are more than happy to bend over and accept mediocrity, as there is no alternative. Constantly preaching their bile and putting down those who want more for our club. ***** whipped into believing there is no other way.
Hopefully the tide of complacency is turning.
    Up the revolution.
    😛

      (Quote)

  35. Does FCB really think we will happily accept another 2nd half of the season like last year ❓
Regardless of who is coaching, the **** will hit the fan.
If 52k turn up and still do nothing, then they deserve everything they get.
    It’s time the apathy stopped

      (Quote)

  36. Masher is preying on the fears of the fans from relegation.
He knows it is the bottom line and none of us want it.
Unfortunately it is the only way to finally rid the club of the cancer of Ashley.
    No gain without pain.
Lets face it, we are a laughing stock of a premier league team anyway.
Ambitionless non-football money grabbers. What a joke.
I’ll happily support the team in the championship if necessary.
    Enough is enough.

      (Quote)

  37. Tory Parsnip should write a blog titled ‘mediocrity or bust’
Bend over and take it dry, there is no alternative. 👿

  38. I think calling a troll a nobhead is perfectly acceptable
particularly so on a dead blog
    extremely entertaining

  39. For the record, I think it was nothing short of outrageous the team Charver put out today.
After spouting off how important the FA Cup is and that he will put out his strongest available team. He may have prematurely unleashed the hounds of hell upon himself

  40. I don’t care how tired the boys are, at least have them on the bench.
He made a fool of over 4k travelling fans today. That won’t be forgotten easily.

      (Quote)

  41. Sold his soul to the fat controller for what ❓
Even if he gets the job permanently, he won’t last.
He will lose the dressing room very quickly, as he doesn’t have the Parsnip patter and smarm.

      (Quote)

  42. If he thought the ‘boo’s’ today were embarrassing then he should remember the Cardiff match last season.

  44. Ayeyayayay! You guys swim around in circles, always chasing the bait. Move on, guys, move on.

After much thought and after looking at the relative merits of all those mentioned as being on the managerial radar, and not knowing anything about the guy other than what I’ve read on the internet, my choice is Lucien Favre.

He fits the limited parameters that appear to be part of the job: he understands the head coach role, works with limited resources, works with young guys, plays a fast counter-attacking kind of football and has a good record with moderate sides. He speaks French and English.

I’d be a bit excited by that appointment, and happy enough to give him a go. I’m sure that nice Mr Ashley will agree. 😆

  45. So blog.com have linked us with Reme Garde. Boro’s Aitor Karanka & Thomas Tuchel all in one day & M’Baye Niang…,

Cabaye’s also joining and Sissoko going the other way.. 😛

you’ve got to love Ed’s passion for Toon news, shame 99% of it is twitter *****.

Then I’m on their backs, as Predicted by the blog troll.

  47. Carver is doing a spectacular impression of Pardew thus far. (good 1st half, nightmare 2nd half and at a loss to do anything about it – weakened cup team + cup loss – talking utter pish in the press)

Might just be enough to earn him a full-time crack at the job…

      (Quote)

  48. A lot of you have asked “G2 is there any hope for us at all?” And my answer is yes mates we will persevere and overcome all obstacles. We will get our club back. We will once again be a proud club who can win a game in the FA cup. It’s coming. Just imagine one day we will beat Leicester and Burnley in the same season!!!

      (Quote)

  49. With our current strong list of candidates for manager including Johnny C. and Joe Kinnear I am convinced we will make it through the season! It’s exciting times ahead. A draw here, 3 losses there, points just flying our way.

      (Quote)

  50. Can I state for the (Troy) record that I think Carver is **** and ugly and the faster we get rid of him the better. If he is employed as caretaker manager I will not support him because he is **** and ugly. I will have no qualms (YES. QUALMS) about saying I don’t want him as manager now, before or ever because he is ****, ugly and has to be held responsible for the Mike Williamson free kick routine. Is that clear?
