Next in line!

Forget the cup. Forget Pardew. The only question of any importance for me at the moment is who will be the next manager, or should that be head coach?
Working within what we see as the main parameters of the job – and whether they are true or not is irrelevant for this exercise – which appear to be centred on budget constraints for new players and personal wage demands, who do you want next, and why?
The internet is full of shortlists for the job, so you should have no end of options available to you. I would imagine just about every possibility has been mentioned somewhere.
Having googled my way through many many of them, my vote goes to Lucien Favre.
I know almost nothing about the guy other than what I’ve read on the internet, but he may well fit the bill: he understands the head coach role, works with limited resources, works with young guys, plays a fast counter-attacking kind of football which would take Pard … er … the tactics of the last guy we had, to that coveted new level. He speaks French and English and has had some success with moderate sides.
I have no idea what his wage demands would be so it’s pointless me making any comments there, but perhaps a lucrative incentive package might help smooth the path.
So, for the sake of getting another thread running, throw your hat in the ring (rather than talking through it) …

  1. Cheers Mark my friend put on a 10 pound bet that Newcastle win so he gets 100 pounds if the result comes in mate. 9-1 shot but a bit risky when your main defenders are Colocini and Willo ( always makes me nervous) the only saving grace is Krul’s back and we will need him at his best today. I think the blog needs a lift today. Happy 43 birthday mark shame we couldn’t beat burnley for you. Sorry it’s belated

  2. Cheers sharpy that would make my day. If the score line stay’s 0-0 and we sneak it at the end i’ll be very happy mate

  3. Hitman – Not really. I’ve been frustrated as anyone at times but I understand how hard the job is while Jabba is the owner. I’m in the camp of why bother sacking him as we won’t replace him with better so I guess we’re about to find out.

  4. It’s great when the toon are involved in a high profile game, and the whole nation looks to the game. Pity all the focus is on Chelsea though 🙂
Can’t see anything other than a serious cuffing today, and the birthday boys drowning there sorrows 👿

Am interested to hear what Mourinho has to say about the toon and JC since the space cadet left 🙂

  5. I think you’ll find, Hitman that I haven’t constantly slagged him off for the last two years. I am allowed to get annoyed and voice my opinion like anyone else so I am sure you can find a couple of comments in the past where I have not been happy but overall I have acknowledged how tough the gig is here at the moment for that reason I am not the same as the rest.

  6. Stuart, you really don’t understand the point being made, do you? It’s not about whether it’s negative or not. Nor is it about freedom of speech. It’s about recognising bias and the agenda of the writer/media outlet.

    That’s all. Nothing else.

Reporters (and bloggers) can be as negative as they like. Just as others can be critical of those negative views.

  7. Hitman@907, you know how following the toon is an emotional roller coaster, it stands to reason that blokes will blow in the wind somewhat. It’s to be expected.. and it isn’t going to get any better any time soon with Ashley at the club…

Still at least the blather merchant is gone, one less thing to get irritated about..

      (Quote)

  8. who’s slagged Percy off for 2 years?? we’ve complained when things were bad but supported him when things went well. But the majority of times things we’re bad so people became frustrated. I wouldnt say the majority slagged him off… a typical complaint would be negative tactics, contain football, poor set pieces, bad substitutions, bull **** excuse etc etc

Isnt this what a forums for.. everyone at sometimes have said negative vibes about Pardew, even his supporters didnt like him, they just couldn’t see a better manager being employed.

      (Quote)

  9. Bris – Please, please, please tell me what newspapers are supposed to report about NUFC that is positive? How can it be balanced if the club only do stupid things?

Hitman – Sorry but I don’t think you read my posts. I am certainly one of the very, very few who have not consistently slagged Pardew off. Yes I have slagged him off sometimes but it’s very rare.

  10. @Trigger gan easy mate, Ive gained a year in 2 weeks. I’m only 42 😛

  11. Hitman@912, Stu wears his heart on his sleeve, a bit like the rest of us tbh. No-one needs people giving it the big “told you so” at the end of the day, but it makes for a good discourse on the blog… it would be boring if people didn’t change there opinions once in a while…
The whole Ashley / club going nowhere blather gets to the best of us after while. A couple of blokes on here are broken hearted that Pardew has gone..I can’t understand it for the life of me.. Pardew had my support on and off, but I often criticised the fact that we usually played ***** football and I didn’t like his lies after having just watched a crock of **** dressed in black and white stripes…… so be it…we have to move on…it takes time to recover though, cos Pardew had the wedge waved under his nose and left leaving JC and the rest to make the best of a bad situation…

      (Quote)

  12. Ah, Stuart. What on earth does the argument have to do with reporting negatively or positively? Maybe you’re incapable of understanding the point, or maybe you just don’t want to, for whatever reason, so I’ll leave it there, mate. We’re not going to get anywhere.

  13. and thats the problem mm.one minute they want percy the next they dont then they do.and i get that but to say he rarley slagged percy is a **** take and taking people for mugs on here.

      (Quote)

  14. @MM

    totally agree.

Even Pards bumboy Troy wanted Pardew to walk after a month 😯
now he bleats to us night and day for wanting him out after years of dross

  16. Bris – Of course it’s to do with positive or negative reporting. That’s what articles are – one or the other! You’re complaining that its not balanced. But not balanced in what?

Hitman – sorry you’re talking ****! Two seasons ago I said Ashley should sack Pardew after i thought we were about to be relegated. I said it not because we will get better as we aren’t going to win anything but just to see if we can play better football. Was I gutted when he didn’t get sacked? Not at all and you won’t find any comments from me saying any different. I have consistently backed Pardew with probably <5% of my entire comments actually slagging him off.

Munich – If you are including me in your 'Two people are broken hearted he's been sacked' then you're wrong! I wasn't bothered either way, I just don't think we would appoint anyone any better, but I'm far from broken hearted! Let's see!

  17. you wanted rid of percy because you wanted to see better football.alot of people have been made fun of for saying the same thing these past weeks

  21. @Stu.

we’d regret it if was defensive too. Pards would of went defensive and held firm for 20mins before conceding.. without a comeback on offer.

  22. Looks like JC doesn’t fancy the job. Picked three donkeys Williamson, Anita and Gouffran. A canter for Chelsea 4-0

      (Quote)

  23. We can officially named Gouffran as our new Shola~! 😐

He must be scoring tons of goals in training matches. 🙄

  24. Mark , No mate, last week I did the same thing over and over and eventually it did what it’s supposed to and disappeared, really frustrating. I will try another link if I can, thanks though.

  26. No positives. You really need your head seeing to, Stu. I have been supporting us for bloody years, and we have had **** teams of utter mediocrity, relegation ****. We sold Beardsley, waddle, Gascoigne blah, blah. Yes, the owner does some absolutely ridiculous things and we are covered in a *****’s sport shops logo but no positives.

We have a decent squad, with some good young players coming through, with potentially, 4-5 starting Geordies (I am certainly thinking of S. Taylor as a Geordie) – that is magnificent, that needs reporting today on its own, when we look at how football is these days. Yeah, we aren’t spending enough but we are so not in financial trouble it’s great. We have a state of the art training center ready soon. We have a decent scouting network, a seemingly on the ball chairman or whatever his title his, and if we get a coach that plays decent football we could be in a nice position. The club is in a good position, as Pardew said, we have ‘been growing the club’ slowly, but also as he said both the club and him needed a change. The next manager may know he won’t get loads of dosh but he will know that his he works hard and gets the best out of the players he will be supported. Pardew talks about building new teams, he lost really only Carrol, Ba, Cabaye (I don’t include Debuchy as he was only here while Cabaye was here and we’ve already replaced him).

No positives, get a decent coach in now, and we will be in a good position.

  32. Lionel – Please!!! If we’re in such a good position why are we treading water? How can you say we are growing slowly? How can you say the club is growing at all? Since we finished 5th we have finished 16th, 10th and will probably finish 10th again and our turnover has reduced! So tell me again how are we growing?

What good is it if we have a great training complex (yet to even be started), 5 or 6 local lads in the squad or being in great financial shape of it does not reflect itself on the pitch? Football is sport and this sport is played on a field, not in a bank! The most successful clubs spend the money they raise to improve the team and improve their chances of winning- we DON’T! That for me makes it all **** pointless!

  35. Oh The ‘football’ is back. I’ve spent all day watching the Asian Cup and I must say that the Asian Cup is much more entertaining than this PL game.

Certainly there’s better ball skills in the PL and they can do it at a faster pace, but it’s great to see good honest attempts at playing the game as best and as fast as you can. Frustrating at times, especially in the last third of the pitch, but great entertainment.

Newcastle next – my 5th live game of the day. I love football. And I’m now so pissed I could even handle a heavy loss. But no negativity from me. No way, chum. Howay the lads. Newcastle to win 41-0.

  37. Stu/Bris – the thing for me is that Edwards is writing for a national newspaper – a decent one at that, not ya Sun or Star, but the Telegraph. His articles shouldn’t be opinion, they should be well balanced factual articles. The wording should be as neutral as possible in my opinion, to then allow the reader to decide how negative or positive they analyse the piece. I am more than capable of drawing my own conclusion, and don’t need to be lead by Edwards.
If Edwards wants to write opinion, then set up a blog.
