Unfair-Lee treated?

After the announcement that John Carver was to be our caretaker manager until the seasons end, to be honest my first reaction was. Well at least a decision has finally been made! As underwhelming as the decision to stick with Carver is, it does however indicate that we have found our (unknown) man to take us forward next season. There is some fear that if Carver does really well, he will be kept on full time next season but I don’t think that is the case here.

A man to be trusted?
A man to be trusted?

Lee Charnley has not been in the hot seat long and he has a tough task to win back some trust from the clubs fan base. His predecessor Derek Llambias came across as a very astute financially sound business man but conversely, a really unlikable character with a cold disdain for the clubs fans .  He took gambles with player sales and held a tight leash on finances and over time his relationship with the fans descended into a seemingly hate/hate affair. There were no tears when Llambias announced his departure but there was some degree of skepticism when Lee Charnley was promoted from within the ranks of power. No one really seems to know much about the guy and he really hasn’t done much to improve this situation with the fans. However throughout his first transfer window I thought he did a good job of bringing players in and trying to get deals over the line. It was actually nice to see that we held off on letting Debuchy go until we had indeed sign cover for him. Maybe mistakes of the past were being heeded? Unfortunately we were still the missing a striker and the replacement for Mbiwa but I do believe that we were working on deals that could not be completed in time. Maybe if we were a little more relaxed with our purse strings it would not have happened, who knows? It would be hard to believe that transfer negotiations were a simple affair. These are still two areas of real concern and hopefully Lee can finally get it right.  This transfer window has been thrown into turmoil with the departure of Pardew and looks like being another fizzer. It is almost like torture as we wait for the striker and centre back we need and unfortunately I can see the torture continuing.

As far as Pardews replacement goes, I think we have got someone pre-signed and ready to go next season. I think Charnley knows how important this is and I reckon he will be doing his damnedest to get it right. Given the tight restraints that he has to work with, I think he is doing a good job and seems to be making the right noises. Charnley has really taken on a poisoned chalice of a role with in the club and it can’t be easy for him to operate under Ashley’s tough finacial model. But if he has his heart in the right place and tries the best he can to drive the club forward and bring back some exciting times then I am willing to cut him a little slack when things don’t turn out as they should. The new manager appointment will go a long way to see if my faith in him is right or misguided.

  1. So it looks like Spurs and Villa are in for Ali. Even we can compete with Villa but I doubt very much we can with Spurs. Hope Spurs aren’t in for him as I fear it’s goodnight.

  2. Nice victory yesterday albeit against a terrible side. Seems like Pardew’s shackles have been taken off. The movement of the front 3 was just what we needed. Been saying for ages that Sammy should stop running the line all game and cut inside. All 3 goals came from wingers cutting in. Pardew had them screwed to the touchline. Relegation thoughts banished.

  3. Any win is a good win,two poor teams imo, let’s hope it kicks us on a bit to play without fear.

Looks like Andy Carroll’s left ankle has gone (again)

  4. Hitman, you’re an old gadgy 😉 , you remember the good old days. That was always a problem, getting players to come up this far north. I thought those days were long gone, we have an airport, MacDonalds, indoor toilets, Eldon Square, the Metro Centre, the Bigg Market and Whitley Bay… what more could a man want ?

  5. Dave – sorry mate, I wasn’t dodging your question. It was on Look North (local news channel), they said it was understood a fee of £4m to raise to £5m on app & goals, but the sticking point was this loan back.

  6. In my opinion, Ayoze on the wing would still manage to score goals with a Sammy operating as target man, no need to mention he played at that position and scored 17 goals in Spain, so its proves that scoring is what he does and he can always make things happen. It would allow him to not always have 2 platers on his back, and would allow him to create more opportunites for us. Its not that Sammy is a better striker or player than Ayoze, its that Sammy is 6 ft 4 1⁄2 with a big talent, with pace, he gets tougher and has fantastic attitude in my opinion, he can create chances for for Ayoze who I see cut inside leaving the left flank to Haidara. de Jong or especially Sissoko driving centrally in the n10 position could score, and Cabella too, it could help to win more headers and play more direct if needed and could be a huge facilitator upfront because what I do like is that despte his talent he is a real team player, could also score. Goals can come fron anywhere if we play the right way. I dont know if you see my point but Id like to see the same line up, the same front 3, but Abeid for Anita who did well, and Ayoze who could be even more a threat coming from the left and using Sammy back to goal to unlock opposites defenses. But if you prefer him on the wing, one thing as to be said, we defend better a unit when he plays, and there is no coincidence that Dummett and Haidara who 2 good and different type of left backs, play better with Sammy as left winger. But in my opinion, Sammy upfront is something we have to try, for me he could bring another dimension to the way we play, he could something close to Carroll but with more pace and the opportunity to come deep get the ball or play on the back of defenders. As long as he keeps playing he will only get better.

  7. If Alli wants to stick it out down there we cant do anything about it. He’ll do very well to break into the teams at Spurs, Chelsea or Arsenal.

Higher rated young english talents have stuggled at big clubs, Naughton and Lennon both moving to provincial smaller clubs in this window. Zaha, Jones and Smalling at Man utd. Future superstars Jermaine Pennant & Richard Wright at Arsenal.

**** him; Perez, Haidara, Krul, Santon etc. made huge decisions to leave their homes & families to move to another country where they dont speak the language and this soft ***** wont move up norf because its a bit of a drive… 🙄

      (Quote)

  8. In fact Sammy could also be really quality if he plays as Right winger, with Ayoze as poacher, and Cabella instead of right winger.

  9. MM@455 your forgetting there’s nee Dickmans pies noo and Milburns fish bar are gone nee wonder they don’t want to come north 😆

Well we won 3 _0 away can’t ask more than that.Everyone knows the defence needs strengthend but it won’t happen this window .So hats off too Carver for promoting Watson too the first team coaching .Watson was a very good defender and played at the highest level so heres hoping he will improve that part of the team. One thing seems evident all ready Carved is more tactically astute than Pardew and is looking at how to improve things. We are at least attacking games now.Carved would never of been my first choice but for me he has proved he is an upgrade on Pardew.Let’s just hope a few good results now follow.

  11. Anybody able to tell me where they’re finding the links to Toon games. I’m lost without wiziwig.
Kim – you put 2 up yesterday. Where’d you get them?

      (Quote)

  12. With you on thatCC .5 more years with Pardew would of meant relegation at some point .He was lucky that the group of players he had was good enough too just about scrape enough wins while playing his negative tactics .With a tactically aware coach I am sure this group with a couple of good Cb signings could finish top 8 every season. We do have some very good players that need to be played too their strengths

      (Quote)

  13. Perez is an outstanding young player and never seems to get frustrated with the amount of work he has to put in.

Watching us this season though and yesterday in particular, the thing we are clearly missing is a CF who stays central – plays the width of the box if you like.
Perez is happy to run into the channels, but that then generally means that there is no one in the middle.
Sammi played well yesterday, but what I’d like to see is a CF play through the middle, with Perez and Cabella working the channels.

  14. CC – regarding your comments on Alli – totally agree mate. I reckon the kid would stay in London for lifestyle over his career.
I’d love for him to sign for us coz he looks a talent, but if he chooses to go else then that’s up to him. I personally think £4m is a good bid.

I also agree with you about 5 months of JC over Pards.

      (Quote)

  15. Sharpy17 we have 2 Cf on the books that can do that Cisse and DeJong .We just need a coach that realises that and uses them so.Maybe Carver will , once DeJong is fit that is

      (Quote)

  16. Axel – totally agree mate. I think Cisse would be more of a poacher than De Jong, but I think De Jong is the more intelligent footballer.
I think De Jong and Perez together could be very interesting to watch. Cabella has the flair and excitement of Benny but is way less selfish in his play.

  17. I see Villa are getting another good hiding today. I reckon drop wise, Villa, Hull, QPR, Burnley, Leicester – they have to be worried.

      (Quote)

  18. Amazing comments from CC about Carver and Pardew. Would intimate that your dislike for Pardew is personal which is no basis for wanting a manager gone.

As for Ali – we need to offer him something more if staying in London is the way he’s swaying. No point just saying oh well we tried.

  21. Kim – I hate Villa & QPR so there’s 2 of my 3 😆

Stu – what else can we offer him?. If his preference is to live in the South, what would you suggest?

      (Quote)

  22. I hate the way he undeservedly wormed his way into a good mans job, The way he fires disgusting abuse at fellow managers, Lies through his teeth, Tried to assault an opposition player, Set numerous unwanted records, Squandered the best side weve had in a decade, Moaned about the Europa league nearly getting us relegated which im sure is the root cause of our stance on cups/europe, Hampered young players progress and told a good servant of our club to go away just after hed recieved treatment for cancer

Apart from that im sure hes lovely…

      (Quote)

  23. CC now you have highlighted his good points tell us what you don’t like about the tactically deficient arrogant tw@t . 😉

      (Quote)

  24. CC – You could have narrowed that whole sentence down to just – Following club orders.

Sharpy – We should offer him a better contract. Doesn’t have to be a lot more money but it can have certain improvements on hitting certain achievements.

      (Quote)

  25. The bullshit maybe but i find it very hard to believe Ashley demanded he call respected managers cunts and headbutt a player on the touchline

      (Quote)

  26. Apparently the toon have offered young Alli an 8 year contract at 6K a week. I mean, he is only 19 at the end of the day ? Apparently Brentford have offered more and since he found out there are no more Dickmans pies and Milburns fish bar has closed down the lad is undecided. 👿

      (Quote)

  27. I love young Sammi Ameobis twinkle toes, and he strikes a ball beautifully at times with a really cultured left foot, but I just fear whether the lad has the general strength for the EPL ?

It’s been obviously a canny week for the Ameobi family, and good luck to them too !!

      (Quote)

  28. Pardew’s abuse of Pellegrini and the head **** incident are two classic Pardew event’s.
If he had tried that anywhere else than on a football pitch he would have had his lights put out.
That is just the bloke Pardew. His record at the toon is something else.

      (Quote)

  29. Munich – be careful with those jokes mate, some folk on here may actually believe that was the offer made by NUFC.

Stu – if the kid wants to stay in the South, I’m not sure it matters what we offer him. We don’t know what the club have offered yet, or if it’s even got that far.

      (Quote)

  30. Sharples@484, the bit about the Dickmans pies and Milburns fish bar were jokes mate, the rest was pucka gen 🙂

      (Quote)

  31. Munich – from when did you get 8yrs for 6k. We’ve signed players up for 6yrs before but never 8yrs – that’s a manager or coaches contract. The kid is probably getting 6k at Dons now.

      (Quote)

  32. No doubt Pardew was also following club orders to put his favoured players on the pitch and to drive supporters away with his negative, unattractive football.

      (Quote)

  33. Dont understand this “Is Sammy EPL type of player?” Of course he is, like Dummett, like Williamsonson. On Pardew, i feel iys very easy to say hed have got us relegated at, his heafbutt situation is completely overrated, as he just wanted to defend himself, And he moan about the Europa because has not been backed in summer transferts. Ok he is arrogant, defensive minded, but he couldnt worse than in 2013. And he could still say he finished 5th, I honestly think he could do that again with a more ambitious owner, but hopefully Carver does better, he knows the club inside out a full control of the locker room, just win on to the nxt one,

      (Quote)

  34. I have nothing against Pardew assaulting Pellegrini, its justs partof the game, and we cant compare that to a real life situation and that doesnt make him a bad man. Its just trash talk in my opinion, thats the way he is, I dont excpect or ask him to be Sbr in terms of attitude, but dont think he was unsportsmanlike or unprofessionnal

      (Quote)

  35. Well Aarons has been offered six grand a week and has knocked it back, how much do these kids want they haven’t played in the PL for two mins ffs the game has gone nuts, this TV money has sent clubs mad,not jabba like he saved us from a fate worse than death

      (Quote)

  36. Cholo – WOW! 😯 if it’s just part of the game, why don’t we see all managers conducting themselves in the same way?.
If his headbutt was just a mole hill, do you believe his punishment from both Ashley and the FA was over the top?.

      (Quote)

  37. Cholo, not a problem mate, we are all entitled to our opinions. Pardew wouldn’t have called Mark Hughes or Sean Dyche those names..or he might have had to visit his dentist for a bit of cosmetic work.
Ditto the Hull bloke, if he had of tried it in the Bigg Market he’d get chinned 9 times out of 10…

      (Quote)

  38. Can’t believe Swansea won that.
Ramps the pressure up ahead of the Stoke match, which is a real must win now, or we could be cut adrift from the top 10, by some margin.

      (Quote)

  39. Boots – I think if we finish lower than 12th we’ve had a bad season mate. We may fall away from the top 10 (we shouldn’t!, but we may) but I think the bottom 3 will be out of the current bottom 5 sides.
But, really with Swans loosing Bony and Bojan being out for Stoke, and us having the likes of De Jong and Cisse coming back in, we should be finishing higher than them.

      (Quote)

  40. Well if this is true and we are looking to loan him out, it’s disappointing as if he has to go it should be a done deal with cash coming in to buy someone.

      (Quote)

  41. Stu – of course there is a future with Ashley and it’s likely to be a stable one – probably a beige coloured one

      (Quote)

  42. Sharpy – I agree we are not in danger of relegation (at the moment).
Re Stoke, It’s our defence that worries me. Crouch n co will look to capitalise on our weak defending of aerial balls into our penalty box, which we rarely even challenge for let alone win.
We keep giving away cheap free kicks in our own half that put us under considerable pressure too.
Kim – if there’s money to be made, then he will be gone. That’s what NUFC is all about. Money money money.
The football part of the business is a necessary inconvenience unfortunately.
    How sad

      (Quote)

  43. Boots – yeah I knock what you mean mate. Colo had a few Bramble moments against Hull as well. What bothered me – particularly in the 30mins against Hull was that we were nowhere near the 2nd balls. The defence cleared it and it always seemed to fall to a Hull player.

      (Quote)

  44. Stuart – the attraction for young players with potential, is the stepping stone NUFC offers to bigger and better clubs.
Somewhere to showcase their potential in the short term, most likely on lower wages than they might like, but with the certain knowledge, that if they are good enough, they won’t be here long.

      (Quote)

  45. KT@497, Santon only has 1 year left to run on his contract, which expires in summer 2016. Mancini is putting a new side together at Inter, Podolsk signedi, Shakiri signed from FCB… It’s obvious that the toon will want to force his hand if possible. He’s on 30K a week apparently and still hasn’t really convinced imo. Still no reason to let the bloke go though !

      (Quote)

  46. JC’s comments about Sammy Ameobi are worrying.
He took him off because he was tired. (wtf ❓ )
He needs to keep putting in performances like that if he is to get a new contract by the seasons end. ( I reckon he’s got no chance )

      (Quote)

  47. BB, Sammy has bronchial problems apparently, that’s why he always looks like he’s knackered. This’ll hold him back imo, but he has real twinkle toes, a cultured left foot and a great shot.

      (Quote)

  48. How exciting – a stable and utterly joyless future… How will we contain ourselves.

One thing that really gets on my wick is that twice under Ashley we have been so close to having a really, really good team and on both occasions we have either not strengthened (in fact weakened the squad) and in the other occasion we sold our best player.

Can anyone explain why they think we actually did that?

      (Quote)

  49. Kim – and Forest have appointed Dougie Freeman already 😯 – that must be some kind of record I reckon.

      (Quote)

  50. Kimtoon, the toon HAD acted quickly in giving JC the job. They just took a long time to tell the fans mate 😆 😉

      (Quote)

  51. Kimtoon@517. I reckon this is all part of the toons recruitment policy. Get the bloke on the cheap, with the promise that when they have proven themselves and a big club comes calling, then the toon will sell them on. The player wins, the toon win, in fact everyone wins, except the fans that is. Even the head coach wins because he has a greed to “work under these conditions”, so obviously doesn’t mind about it all. It’s part and parcel of his job, and as we know Ashley stands by people and shows loyalty, giving the underdogs the chance to prove themselves.
Sissoko talking himself a transfer somewhere is with the full blessing of the club. He wouldn’t have came here in the first place without this agreement. Ditto Cabaye and Debuchy..

      (Quote)

  52. MM, Defo mate, sad state of affairs though, who would of thought we’d be swapping places ambition wise with the likes of Saints, stoke and swans 😳

      (Quote)

  53. KT tell me about it mate. Those same three clubs are spending millions in the transfer market, with far lower crowds than the toon. FFS Swansea were in the lowest division not too long ago !

      (Quote)

  54. Munich – It’s Ashleys NUFC! We only buy players we believe we can make money on when we sell them, not when the team actually needs them. He sees only profit, not success so on that basis Santon will leave and it will save Ashley a few quid in wages. He will be delighted. He will not see it as losing a left back, to go with the two centre halves we’ve already lost this season.

      (Quote)

  55. Stuart79@522, we all know that mate. However with Santon Ashley paid 5 mill or so for him, so if he sits tight and sees out his contract in summer 2016 he can leave for nowt. Surely a bad deal for Cashley ? So he’ll try and sell him on now when he can maybe get his money back. But Mancini and Milan are smart cookies. Santon is still a young ‘un, he’s in no hurry to decide. The big issue is that Santon’s missus is from the toon, though that won’t tie him to the toon I would imagine. She should take a look at Milan before hand though, cos apparently its a right sh… hole ! 😆
At the end of the day, someone has probably also told Ashley we have left backs up the ying yang so it’s no big deal seeing Santon move on ?… not too far from the truth actually…Haidara and Dummet will be fighting it out for the left back position in years to come…though neither of them are in Santon’s class…though hey, so what, we’re talking about mediocre NUFC…

      (Quote)

  56. So that’s compo for Percy and Mbiwa fee not spent and if Santon goes on loan the £4m fee for him in the summer probably won’t get spent either 🙄

      (Quote)

  57. Let santon go.. Its a great bit of business. Keeps us ticking over and in the black. Hopefully, since we’re safe, we’ll sell a few more then mike can fu## off to Rangers
