Is it a case of deja vu?

426-newcastle--124324593813139800I don’t know what’s worse at the moment, the pain in my knee or the pain in my heart. As I sat perched with outstretched leg watching that mess of a team play Leicester I felt physically sick. The lack of endeavour, the total lack of discipline and awareness was simply astounding. I said it last week and I will repeat it again, they are not pulling their weight and it’s not good enough. To lose the ball from the first kick and contrive collectively to concede in the first 30 seconds is pathetic and must have left John Carver shell shocked. And you knew, just knew it was game over from that point on, because this lot have no heart or guts for the fight, it’s that simple. Carver is flogging a dead horse at the moment or should that be donkey? Either they have collectivly gone already or they don’t want to play for him. There is talent in the squad but for what ever reason it’s not showing right now. Sissoko, Janmaat, Krul, Perez and Colback are all capable of pulling us out the muck, yet just aren’t performing and we have to assume they either can’t be bothered or Carver is not getting things right. I don’t think Mike Ashley can afford to let this slide a day longer, he HAS to bring in another coach now, if only for a shot in the arm and kick up the players backside before it’s too late.
Let’s face it, if we go down there will be no swift return this time, the likes of Sissoko, Perez, Janmaat, Cisse, Krul, Tiote and De Jong will not fancy Championship football and will all want out. So too would Cabella and young Aarons, the latter already eyed up by Premier league clubs prior to his never ending injury.
As I type this it’s reported Carver has told a bbc presser that he thinks Mike Williamson got his self red carded on purpose! Well if he hadn’t lost the dressing room he surely has now. Much as I don’t rate big Mike, you don’t EVER come out with that in a post match presser. If true though, then I hope the lad has played his last game for us.
We are falling apart like a cheap piece of tat from one of Ashleys shops and frankly our owner deserves nothing less than relegation, we fans on the other hand do not and for that reason I hope we survive this crisis.
Reports are coming in that Steve Mclaren is talking to his bosses in light of not reaching the playoffs and interest from Newcastle. It’s looking like we could yet see him in the Newcastle dug out next week.
With Saints and Everton both failing to give us a helping hand today those fans of Villa who happily waved us goodbye have leap frogged us in the league and our rivals Sunderland have made serious strides on us and now are only 2 points behind us with a game in hand. Frankly, lads and lasses, it don’t look good at all.
This season is very reminiscent of the 08/09 relegation season, with us seemingly safe but then drifting after losing our manager, going on an awful run and ending with a Geordie trying to save us. We had a glut of red cards in the last 4 games for Barton, Bassong and Edgar, like now with our present lads and signed a duff in Xisco (see Riviere) and a strange loanee in Ignucio Gonzalez (see Chucky). We had a captain in Owen who wanted away with his management producing a 34 page booklet of his highlights to show interested clubs, just like our current captain Colo who left us ages back truth be told. Finally and perhaps most chilling of all, the team we lost to on the final day of the season played in claret and blue, you have to agree there’s a real sense of deja vu going on.

  1. We must attack on Saturday. It’s obvious we can’t defend so we must attack! De Jong, Cabella, Perez, Riviere (for what it’s worth) and Armstrong. Just get em all on the pitch and see if we can at least be a threat.

  2. There are a few good managers in the EPL who have a resume to show which hasn’t been backed up by a playing career at a professional or semi-professional level. I stand to be shot down here, but as far as I can see we have perhaps starting at the top… Van Gaal, Wenger, Mourinho, Advocaat, ???? Then we have ex-players like Lambert, Koemann, Allardyce, Pardew, Martinez, Sherwood, Pearson….. (McClaren ?)….

How important is it to show your competency to your players to win them over and have them believeing in you ? How easy is it to lose your players when they doubt your ability and/or man management skills ? Wearing your heart on your sleeve is a great thing, but only when everyone buys into it, and it is backed up by results… If he doesn’t do it himself by falling on his sword, and of course he won’t, Ashley needs to save JC from self imploding and damaging himself…but worst of all damaging his own investment.

  3. Journo’s on Twitter think it will be doubtful that they’ll go for McClaren now. Reckon too many hurdles but if they do nothing they deserve to be in Rotherhams directors box next season.

  4. It wouldnt surprise me if they dont act. they never do. 3 games is leaving it very late.

Charley admitted mistakes need rectifying.. too late Lee 🙄

  5. Steve McClaren has just reappeared back in the UK and is in the process of rebuilding his career. He is on contract at Derby, and to all intents and purposes would probably have gotten Derby into the play-offs hadn’t him and the club been distracted by the Newcastle interest.

How desperate is he and which way will the coin fall ?

Stay at Derby, win the fans (and owner ?) over and get them promoted …whereafter everyone will be happy, McClaren, fans and owner…

    or

risk destroying his career again by jumping ship and joining NUFC ?

I suppose the one thing he will have is that we know Mike Ashley repays loyalty, so he will probably be bomb-proofed if he should join the toon…… actually a perfect situation to be left in peace to carry out your project…. does that job description match his ambitions though ?

  6. Gash – I feel the same matey.
I honestly don’t think the ‘board’ have a clue what to do.
They didn’t expect Percy to leave and didn’t know what to do then, so took the easy option.
Now their backs are up against the wall and they still don’t know what to do for the best.
There still is no plan, for relegation or for survival.
Complete bunch of jokers the whole sorry lot

  7. Munich – what a difference 6mths makes. In Jan Mc was thinking ‘either way I manage in the PL next season’ either with Derby promoted, or leave for NUFC. Now it’s which team does he want to manage in the Championship 🙄

  9. Willo has made a statement:
Williamson said: “I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the Newcastle United supporters and my fellow team-mates for getting sent-off during yesterday’s game.

“There was absolutely no intent to hurt Jamie or get sent-off, but I recognise that I should have been more composed and measured in my determination to win the ball.

“Unfortunately, it did the one thing that I never wanted to do, and that was to hurt the team.

“Moving forward, I will do whatever I can to help my team-mates prepare for the next two games and fight to get back into the team when I’m next available.

    . .

“I’ve had the honour to play for Newcastle United for five years now, and I can genuinely say that I feel privileged to play for this football club. I would never do anything intentionally to hurt the team or its supporters.”

  10. Firstly I notice this statement didn’t come via the club or am I wrong? Secondly there’s absolutely no mention of Carver in that statement.

What a shambles! What is the owner doing while his £250m investment crumbles!!!

      (Quote)

  11. Well what a sad state of affairs. If the rumours about Carver getting physical with one of the players is true he should be sacked immediately. If lardarse can summon himself from counting his dosh, he should also have Charnley’s head or other body parts on a platter for insisting that Carver was good enough to keep us up, despite the evidence to the contrary. The fact he sanctioned selling two defenders in January when we were already short in defence without replacements coming in while relying on sick note Saylor, championship at best Willo and want away Collo, jesus it just goes to prove how far beyond his competence he’s been promoted.
Acting like sodding Nero fiddling while Rome burns is not an option and he needs to take emergency measures to sack Carver, pay him off and get him away from the club and parachute someone will some nous in to try to get 3 points from this ram shackle bunch.

  12. so Derby want £2M to release schteve from his contract and Mashley is choking on his extra large bowl of cornflakes.
This after robbing Crystal Palace of nearly double that for Pardew.
What is it they say about a fool and his money

      (Quote)

  13. well if he’s not prepared to shell out some money for his target head coach, then we really are Donald ducked
Was the plan for Schteve to deliberately fail to get Derby promoted in the hope they would sack him and Masher could sign him up for nowt ?
Typical dodgy underhand dealings that masher is renowned for.
Well it’s backfired on you stupendously you fat clown.
    Reap what you sow

  14. I thought Mike was good at making money? every slip in position has cost us 2 mil. that nearly equates to the money we got for Pardew, Mbiwa, santon and the lads wages sent to Rangers 🙄

    what a bellend.

  15. Team for WBA providing we get no injuries:

    —————– Krul —————-
    Jonas – Colo – Dummett – Raylor
    — Sissoko – Abied – Colback —
    — Cabella – SDJ – Perez —

      (Quote)

  16. given Dummett is out, we only have Anita.

defo enough height in the team v high ball specialist Pullis 😆

what a joke of a team

    —————– Krul —————-
    Jonas – Colo – – Raylor– Anita
    — Sissoko – Abied – Colback —
    — Cabella – SDJ – Perez —

      (Quote)

  17. Ice – thats what I would have yet with before knowing Dummett was injured like . Raylor has obviously played LB for us before & Jonas played RB for Argie.
Where’s Satka? Is he injured too?.

      (Quote)

  18. If we have to put any ‘non CB’ at CB, I’d go with Jonas personally. At least he would listen to Colo & do whatever his mate told him to do … If Colo could do that of course.

      (Quote)

  19. Sharpy17, JC is “protecting” Satka…a bit like he protected Arma at the weekend… There again Beardsley reckons there is noone ready to step up. The sprogs got cuffed last week from Derby bairns…the future looks bright…

  20. MM: someone on the Chronicle board likens Carvs to a pickled walnut with hair. He is getting off easy with me just saying he is ugly.

  21. Ice , we’ll have to chuck kids in there then or can we make an emergency loan of some sort ?

  22. shame Santon, Mbabu, Mbiwa or Streete arent available in a time of desperate needs….

Satka should be fit to play though

      (Quote)

  23. Gashley@182, Santon and Mbiwa don’t play for us any more. They are preparing themselves for an assault on the Europa League :-)..

  24. Eric…JC is looking even rougher now, the bloke has bags under his eyes you wouldn’t believe 🙁 …

  25. @MM 😀

If we can get beat 3-0 off Leicester with our ‘1st choice back four’ god help us on Sat 👿

      (Quote)

  26. Munich – we aren’t in a position to be protecting them when the only other option is to play ‘out of contract’ players out of position.
WHU have played an 18yr old CB in their last 2 games and he’s done alright.
Satka could be the legs Colo needs alongside side him to improve his game too.

      (Quote)

  27. MM: Carver also said he has lost a stone since he took the job. Wish it was Steve Stone rather than the weight.

      (Quote)

  28. Sharpster, West Spam have introduced an 18 year centre back into a top 12 team team filled with heavyweight seasoned pros… Our lot aren’t lightweight, we are off the radar mate….

  29. Eric Sykes, now you are showing your true colours mate. I didn’t have you down as having a dislike of the follicly challenged……. 🙂

Is Steve McClaren good looking enough for you ? 😆

  30. Hull V arsenal will be interesting tomorrow..

    my pts predictions Next Sat

Everton v Sunderland 1 pt for Sunderland
Hull v Burnley 3 pts for Hull
    Leicester v S’ton 1 pt
Us v West Brom 0 pts for the Toon

which would see us 17th, 1 points above Sunderland with Sunderland to play Leicester 😥

I reckon our saving game is our last v west Ham, Cisse, Janmatt and Willo back. 3PTS

= SAFE, with either Sunderland or Hull joining Burnley & QPR 😀

      (Quote)

  31. Gashley@185, I watched MOTD earlier today and EVERYBODY has massively more presence than NUFC. We are up against Lescott and Olsen next weekend…then a massive West Ham will be rolling up. They’ll be pinging the balls into our box and battering the ball, Satka, Collo and Krul into the back of the net. We have been lightweight for years mate…it’s all coming home to roost now……

      (Quote)

  32. Story now seems to be that McClaren not keen on taking over at this time. Suppose fair enough. But the question is; Who the hell would want to take over this shambles?

      (Quote)

  33. Munich – Sherwood has put young uns in at Villa – Grealish for example. It’s all hands to the pump, and Satka could become an overnight hero if he does well – if he doesn’t, then people forgive him due to his age & inexperience

      (Quote)

  34. There is so much doom and gloom amongst fans and players I cannot even see any light apart from maybe Aarons if fit and Jong,I see his brother is top scorer and the club want 30mil for him I know the PL is a different kettle of fish but there is a few that have not lived up to their rep and some have got worse it tells me that our so called coaches and Manager are still trying to play the game in the 60s which ever way our season goes we must have a right clean out along with some of the old time medics we seem to have but will jabba do that or will he try and do half a job on the cheap, yep he will go the cheap root

      (Quote)

  35. @MM

aye mate, v WBrom will be extremely difficult with a make-shift defence.

Our team offers nothing, no fight, passion, ability.. nothing.. it may be too late to muster enough points to stay up….

All my prayers and hope are v West Ham with players returning and maybe a point v QPR

  36. Hows about Steve Stone to take over then ?

  39. Perhaps the best thing would be for Carver to step down and one of the players to step up for the remaining 3 matches.

Let the team sort it out for themselves.

  41. Icedog@194, if the toon are still trying to play the game like in the 60s, then maybe Big Dave can step in and help out ? 😆 😆

  42. MM maybe if it was the 40s he could help, well past his best by the 50s,maybe he could come in and tattoo waste of space across their foreheads

      (Quote)

  43. Icedog, he’d make a fortune with the tatoos…they should all be lined up mate…. 👿

      (Quote)

  44. Icedog…McClaren must be crazy to jump into this can of worms. He’s still recovering from the last roasting he had before he nicked off to Holland…the Toon job could be the end of him…

      (Quote)

  50. TLR – not joking, but I just can’t see any other respectable manager wanting to come in and finish the season off.
There has been nothing from the club, but surely Carvers position has become untenable.
Seems they are **** scared to sack him, until they can find a replacement. But they are struggling to do even that.
    Total bunch of amateur clowns.
Player power is all that’s left.

  52. that carver needs to shut his yapper never seen a manager throw his players under the bus like he dos

      (Quote)

  53. and after what carver said yesterday if he stays til the end of the season we defo goners

      (Quote)

  54. TAE – sadly right. One win would do it, which will be tough enough with our shambles of a squad and lack of defenders, but none of them will play for Carver now. He’s shown himself to be naive and lacking from the day Pardew left, and now the pressure has got to him far too much for this to continue. Final day we still have a chance, but only if we get a new coach in Monday. Grim.

      (Quote)

  55. PDC or Gus anyone 😆 Scum are experts at saving themselves, we could learn a lot!

      (Quote)

  56. One thing that is very clear is that the club don’t appear to be making any changes. Local journo’s not saying anything at the mo apart from its business as usual. It’s the local guys who usually get the nod when something is going to happen and nothing is being heard so for me it looks like we go with what we have and just hope Sunderland can’t pick up another two points.

      (Quote)

  57. So Mac says he’s staying at Derby and try to get them to PL,so where nowthen???

      (Quote)

  58. Ice – has he said he’s staying? I’ve seen him say he is under contract but that’s about it.

      (Quote)

  59. maybe its time to put the boycott on hold and pack st james next match get behind the team see if that sparks the team

      (Quote)

  60. I wish it would happen, TAE – the time for boycotts and protests is not now – if the crowd really got behjnd the players vs WBA and we got a miracle win, then we’re safe and can happily protest vs Hammers. Won’t happen though.

      (Quote)

  61. TAE – Has doing that had a positive impact on the players performances this season?
