Game On! Swansea v Newcastle

Game On at the Liberty Stadium
Game On at the Liberty Stadium
This is the place to be! Well that’s if you’re not at the Liberty Stadium cheering on the lads in person.

The reality is that many Newcastle fans won’t be at the ground in Swansea this afternoon and only a few thousand fortunate souls will be inside the ground cheering on United.

So for the rest of us why not sit here and chew the fat with fellow, like-minded, Newcastle fans most of whom will be watching the match at the very least? Sit back as we collectively guide ourselves through every twist and turn of our second Premier League game of the season and see where our team has improved, or hasn’t if that is to be the case, following the 2-2 draw with Southampton last weekend.

The full team news will be posted below as soon as I can get my hands on the information but please feel free to look at the comments section below as there is always somebody quicker off the mark than me!

There is an accompanying match preview that I penned yesterday which features a history of the fixture, some injury news for both sides some match stats and facts and touches on just what our team selection for today may be. You can find it by clicking here and we’ll find out just after 2pm whether or not I was right with my musings about the side.

Other than that there isn’t an awful lot left for me to write other than saying that I hope for a win, would be happy with a draw but expect for us to travel away from Swansea empty handed. Hopefully I’m going to be pleasantly surprised come the full-time whistle.

Howay the lads!

  1. Groucho – It’s because he can’t defend! He’s great going forward but I’m sure defenders are suppose to be good at defending… He was shot at the back last year too.

  2. Don’t worry, Lionel, top 7 or 8 for us. Although I’m not seeing too many pathetically inept teams which is what we need to finish top -0 let alone a nothing else. Sunderland might be our saviour.

  3. Janmaat defended the ball into the box last week really badly where the Saints striker beat him easily to the ball…

Looks unfit if you ask me…

  4. Wow. .. Janmaat should be shot for that fuken effort.. SM should have subbed him before that tho.. Bring on Mitro to hold the ball up better and allow us time to get up the park. .
Really pissed off to be honest. ..

  5. It would be Saylor on for Colback for me. Colback has provided very little cover in the first half. I’d also look at Aarons for Gini – who has also done nowt – Aarons left, Sissoko middle to help Anita out a bit and Obertan right

  6. Stuart He got forward last week but he was hesitant as to what to do with the ball. Looked a bit tubby round the middle I thought.

  7. Swansea is looking class. Love the way they are alternating their attacking threats. Giving Newcastle a masterclass 🙄 As for Janmaat, he had to sit back to cope with Montero and he didn’t and he is gone. Cringeworthy stuff. Only silver lining may be to convince that we still need to shore up the defence. Actually we were losing the battle in the midfield as well. Gosh Swansea is class…

  8. You can’t play colback and Anita middle of park..too small need 6 footers simple..that’s why we have been getting over run for years all the top team play with big players middle off the park..tactics can go out of the window..that’s why abeid or Buckie should play can pass the ball them 2 cant

  9. Aussie, Agree, I am really angry right now, angry that after a full pre-season our defensive frailties still haven’t been addressed when it’s needed sorting for a good 3 seasons.

  10. The question is, what ***** have they got lined up for us in the second half? Oh ****! I’ve just remembered who we play in the next couple of games…

  11. We were pushing Swansea back a little before the card.. fuken up hill battle now. . Sissoko is a lazy *****, same as Obertan..lot’s of jogging back to cover!

  12. Anita was fine last week imo, was slotting back into the gaps left by the CB pair when required and passing the ball out quickly, we went right off the boil after he went off. This Swansea team are very good, carry a threat all over the pitch, Shelvey, Montero, Gomis, Siggy, Ayew, too many to worry about for our weak back line.

  13. How far behind have we come? It’s so embarrassing! 3 signings and everyone is wanking the club off even though we’re still fodder! Reality check today!

**** it! I’m opening a bottle and drinking the lot!

  14. Janmaat’s looking to be a bit of a liability.

That’s twice now we’ve seen him go for an early bath in games where he’s reacted badly to being outplayed. Charver wasn’t far wrong about him or Willo at the end of last season.

  15. It’s ok, Schteve is “Happy with what he’s got”! Unbelievable! Relegation fodder again!

  16. @mhardysport: 17 players started today for Newcastle and Sunderland who were at the clubs last season. Surprisingly, both teams are still not very good.

    Oh how very true!

We won’t have a win until we play Watford and that’s a big ask as our confidence will be crumbled completely and minds will wonder back to last season.

  17. Mclaren exposed already! Tried too hard to replicate last week. Think this early on in the season I would have looked for a draw here and played a defensive counter attacking team.

We have flattered Swansea today. They have been average at best but our goal to win the the game is what caught us out

      (Quote)

  18. Michael – It’s because the players are **** mate! McClaren isn’t Harry Potter – look at his last couple of jobs!

We’re a basket case and just because we’ve bought 3 players everyone thinks it’s great. It’s just sad and pathetic!

    We’re playing 4-5-0!

      (Quote)

  19. Bloody hell Stuart relax ffs… SM is going to take more than 2 games to sort this rabble out. . Bit early to begin the relegation talk..

      (Quote)

  20. Is what it is, Stu. The bloke, McClaren, certainly has his work to do. Minds have already wandered to last season. The only hope was they could get away with it a bit in the first couple of games, and get some points and confidence on the board, but found out early.

He’ll settle us down but going take time, and as you rightly point out, some more bloody players. Some of them can’t be as **** and as stupid as they have shown but they certainly haven’t got the attitude for it. Another cross and goal- Jesus Christ!

      (Quote)

  21. Aussie – Are you watching and have you seen who we play in the next few games? It could be bloody hard to claw back from a start like we could very possibly have!

If we don’t sign any other players, we will be in a relegation scrap because we cannot defend! It’s that simple it really is!

      (Quote)

  22. Yeah I have seen who we have got but no team in the history of the premier league has been relegated in August or September! So don’t lock yourself in your doomsday bunker just yet!

      (Quote)

  23. Another pathetic attempt at sarcasm. How about trying to explain how we will get over our start? Assuming you don’t think we will pick up too many points in our first 5 games.

      (Quote)

  24. We are starting the season just like last season…

Afraid that we might be on just 1 point by end of August. 😐

      (Quote)

  25. Not sarcastic, you just need to calm the fuk down, you have gone into full drama queen mode again…
We will get points, just a tough run to start with..we knew this when the fixtures were announced. .

      (Quote)

  26. Aussie – obviously we will get points. I’m just not sure if we continue to play like this we will get enough points. It’s not a one off!

      (Quote)

  27. No it won’t be a one off.. we will see more of this going forward. .we have had 4 odd years of dire football and it won’t be fixed overnight.

      (Quote)

  28. Exactly, Aussie and we will be in another scrap this season unless we bring in the player we need. Pay the extra and just get on with it instead of fucking about and risking relegation. Next season is not the season to be out of the PL! Swansea have been so much better than us it’s embarrassing and they’ll only finish top 8!

      (Quote)

  29. It is as simple as mentioned above, we have got to sort our defense out and then we can build on what we have got. Until then, it is indeed going to be a long road to recovery. It will come but they do need to get a couple more players, for quality, for attitude and to give a greater sense of this being a different team and time.

      (Quote)

  30. More worrying is that we could quite easily get stuck in the rut that nearly took us down. This today looks really worrying. The attitude of the players looks **** poor!

      (Quote)

  31. Not arguing the fact that we need more quality! Just too early to calling for relegation. . We may get a player or two in and our general play may improve. …I hope …
