Game On! Swansea v Newcastle

Game On at the Liberty Stadium
Game On at the Liberty Stadium
This is the place to be! Well that’s if you’re not at the Liberty Stadium cheering on the lads in person.

The reality is that many Newcastle fans won’t be at the ground in Swansea this afternoon and only a few thousand fortunate souls will be inside the ground cheering on United.

So for the rest of us why not sit here and chew the fat with fellow, like-minded, Newcastle fans most of whom will be watching the match at the very least? Sit back as we collectively guide ourselves through every twist and turn of our second Premier League game of the season and see where our team has improved, or hasn’t if that is to be the case, following the 2-2 draw with Southampton last weekend.

The full team news will be posted below as soon as I can get my hands on the information but please feel free to look at the comments section below as there is always somebody quicker off the mark than me!

There is an accompanying match preview that I penned yesterday which features a history of the fixture, some injury news for both sides some match stats and facts and touches on just what our team selection for today may be. You can find it by clicking here and we’ll find out just after 2pm whether or not I was right with my musings about the side.

Other than that there isn’t an awful lot left for me to write other than saying that I hope for a win, would be happy with a draw but expect for us to travel away from Swansea empty handed. Hopefully I’m going to be pleasantly surprised come the full-time whistle.

Howay the lads!

  1. I know, we have a new manager and he has a lot of **** to clear out. .we can’t replace the whole team in one go, we need to weed out the weak of talent and weak of heart.. a lot of heads dropped far too easily today…

  2. Swansea played with confidence, we played with fear! They back themselves. .we need to get our players in that head space.

  3. 2-0 defeat away from home. Not great but not a disaster either.
The fact we were totally outplayed was very disappointing. Let’s hope Steve is learning fast.
Obertan’s ****, Sissoko’s not a winger, Haidara’s weak and Colo simply can’t jump. Personally I was very disappointed with Wini.

  4. Yeah, it is the attitude that needs sorting, as well as of course a couple more players. That’s what was for me what so bad about last week, just seeing almost the depression and fright on Colo’s face. I reckon the players are carrying it pretty deeply what has gone on over the last couple of seasons. Blackey is really going to have to earn his money, if he is that good he is going to be tested now. He has got a lot more than Johnny Wilkinson’s fragile mentality to deal with, he’s got almost a whole team.

The good thing is that we are going to be in a as place early, that is where McClaren is going to have to build us up from. That’s it. We need 2-3 more players, a lot of work on the training, some good psychological work from Blackey and his team, and they are going to need home support at St. James. Then, by February, we can start to push on up.

  5. Anyone who thought Swansea was poor today hasn’t kicked a real ball in competition. Thought McLaren did the best he could with the tools at hand. Try to nick a goal via route 1 at the end. A little worry that Mitro is more Nitro but the main concern I had beyond defence is we lost it the midfield today with our first 11. We need better pressing.

  6. i’m loking forward to hearing from wally about why we played most of the second half without a centre forward 😕

      (Quote)

  7. What a load of ****. That could of been carver in charge. We need 3 defenders, RB, Centerhalf…. Mitro is still too raw. We can’t let cisse go without replacing him. Pathetic show.

Janmatt should be ashamed. Totally thows the toys and bails out. Roll on Man u 👿

  8. Kim, there is a lot of baggage that SM has to deal with. Im going to give him a chance to turn things around. .. it won’t happen over night. .

      (Quote)

  9. Griff – Agree. The players have shown over the last 2 years they’re not that good and McClaren isn’t even that good himself. It’s going to be a tough old season and if it’s February when it’s start getting better I just hope it’s not too late by then.

  10. Mitro got 2 free kicks in his favour…one he got a yellow card for and then a chat from the ref for the second!
Seems the refs have a preconceived idea of what the lad is about.
he is not helping his own cause but why the chat? Because the Swansea player bitched?

      (Quote)

  11. @Kim. It sure is for now the same as last season. But, with a few different players, hopefully a few more to come, and a different coaching team, and everyone before raving about Blackey coming in, then it should end up better than last season. Rough road for a it, yet.

  12. janmatt stupidity cost us the game collo beaten in the air once again 🙄 and runs round like a headless chicken 😯 ,but im sure there will be some fool telling us what a class act he is 😳

      (Quote)

  13. It ain’t going to be too late by then, Stu, but as you have pointed out, we have got, got to get some solidity at the back. And at the moment, the maintaining of Colo is looking a worry, if nothing else he has got to get his head on straight and toughen up.

      (Quote)

  14. Well we were **** but cannot make a silk purse from a sows ear, hoping for a least two more players and then I’ll judge them after 6 or so games but its not looking good

      (Quote)

  15. It’s obvious from the 4 goals we’ve conceded we’re totally inept at the back. SM knows this, the players know this. Let’s see if fatty provides the funds to buy a defender as no amount of coaching can make this defence look reasonable

      (Quote)

  16. Let’s hope not, Stu, otherwise we are really ******.

No mate, I reckon he’s good but it will take time and he is going to be tested. He is going to have to ride this one, but it wasn’t a problem of his making, so I reckon he will keep his confidence and concentrate on what needs working on. That’s it! Come the end of he window, they are going to need support and belief.

  17. Unable to see much of the game, probably fortunately. When Saylor came on did he play RB or did Mbemba move over?

      (Quote)

  18. 1. Colo needed replacing with PL experienced player of quality
    2. A back up RB needed
    3. a quality LB needed, Haidara and Dummett are not the Answer
    4. Should of signed a quality winger to feed Mitro or see 5
    5.Should of got Austin

      (Quote)

  19. History shows we won’t do enough in the window. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if we sold a purple or two.

I would hope it gets better but there will be tough old wounds opening up again and if we don’t win a game until Sept/October it could be very very tough!

  20. I am looking forward to next week actually. We may see Aarons, Mitro and Tayls start. If very lucky then Perez for Obertan as well.

      (Quote)

  21. Sissoko is wasted on the wing, I’d drop Anita and play him there. Get Aaron’s on from the start and drop overran for perez

      (Quote)

  22. Mbemba looks good in the tackle good with the ball on the deck still not conviced he can handle the threat in the air but hes way better than collo

      (Quote)

  23. Lads, I stand before you today wearing my Thong of Gloom. That was pathetic. No passion. Very disturbing from Janmaat. He was being destroyed by Montero. Schteve should have had him off.

      (Quote)

  24. Montero was better than our entire team. What an embarrassment. Step down Ashley you fool.

      (Quote)

  25. Of that’s the case, Gashley we could well go down. Not many recover from a start like that.

      (Quote)

  26. I said we’d be lucky to get 7 points from the first 7 matches. Nothing has happened to change my mind.

      (Quote)

  27. Schteve had better wake up. This is the Prem Schteve. Have you noticed how poor we are yet?

      (Quote)

  28. Looking at the fixtures, Gashley, it is October, November and December that are going to be key. We need to be pushing ourselves forward a bit then, bit of a dip again January and Feb, lifted by a couple of signings, and then really kick on on a run through March to May. Oct-Dec & March-May is really where we have got to get points on the board.

      (Quote)

  29. That was so easy for Swansea. A walk in the park. They had twice the passes and twice the possession. Colo cannot defend high balls. What is our plan going forward? Seeking UN intervention possibly?

      (Quote)

  30. “The crowd has gone silent here at Old Trafford as the UN peacekeepers move in and set up a no pass zone around the Newcastle defensive third.”

      (Quote)

  31. Colo playing CB for us in 2017: “Colo advances slowly up the pitch with the ball. His knee brace and artificial hip seem to be giving him some bother…..”

      (Quote)

  32. not takeing janmatt off was a bad move, noticed a fair few peeps thought what i was thinking, and when he came down to the touchline, thats what i thought ,and prop most of the rest of the toonarmy would of thought he was doing

      (Quote)

  33. thats a bad managers decision in my opinion when every 1 else and see hes ganna go if not taken off he was geting owned

      (Quote)

  34. <<<<<<<<<<<< thought it was bad enough having to watch him 1 more year without giving him another 1 😯

      (Quote)

  35. We remain a deeply disturbing outfit led by a mental midget. Ashley thinks Colo can still play football!!! And so apparently do McLaren, and Carr who are both on the board!!!! Fong them I say!!!!

      (Quote)

  36. Janmaat has apologised. Well that’s ok then!

McClaren says naivety cost us. It was **** poor passing, marking and a stupid red card, not naivety!

      (Quote)

  37. GeordieTwo, I don’t think Ashley has owt to do with it now, apart from stumping up, or not, the cash. The buck stops with Charnley, Carr and McC.

      (Quote)

  38. Then we’re in big trouble Lionel mate. They apparently haven’t noticed we don’t have a Prem quality defense…..

      (Quote)

  39. WE are the only Prem club that would extend Colo’s contract at his age. There is no excuse for that. It is complete incompetence.

      (Quote)

  40. It’s honey badgers down the underpants of the entire board….They richly deserve it!!!!

      (Quote)

  41. One thing is for sure, and McC has gone on about it, we really do need players with character, and we have got to start getting some of those with character to start showing it. Like bloody Janmaat, for example. A World Cup player, even if you are getting the run around, has got to keep himself together. This is not just about our players being poor, it is about them being badly managed for too long and losing a core of professionalism- which includes maturity and commitment. It ain’t fu-kin’ good enough! I hope McC is tough enough to tell them how it is.

      (Quote)

  42. It is definitely looking a weird one, GeordieTwo, that contract extension. I certainly thought we would see a bit of a turn around in Colo’s game, and will still might, but it is just how weak he is in the air and seems to offer no physical presence. He needs to sort.it out quick. At the moment Janmamt (with his bloody head screwed back on again), Mbemba, Taylor and Dummet are our best bet. And, that means at least one calamity waiting to happen. They have got to get a new CB and, they don’t have to worry, it will not be for the sake of it – that is for sure, it will be because we bloody need one.

  43. André Ayew’s game by numbers vs. Newcastle:

    100% aerial duels won
    86% pass accuracy
    2 chances created
    1 goal
