This week we welcomed Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey and at the time of writing I think it’s fair to say Shelvey is going to be a Toon Army favourite!

  22. Excellent performance. Would of been more comfortable if mbemba hadn’t of messed up. What a difference a playmaker makes.
    Shelvey looked great and despite some complaining about signing another “Frenchman” saivet looked like a young tiote..

    Wijnaldum is excellent. So tidy. I reckon Mitro will benefit from Shelvey playing.

  31. We all can see it, like the nose on our face, Mitrovic cannot do it and needs massive help at this level & tempo. Perez started well and then faded today in my opinion. BUT this is what happens when you gamble on a 21 year old and a 22? year old up front!!

  34. Also, to be honest, I can’t believe we didn’t try getting Austin in at only £4 mill. I think it would have been a sound investment. Tested at this level, young, British. Seems like a no brainer. He seemed keen earlier in the year too. So I don’t know why not… Was really hoping for that one…

  39. 1st win in 7 and 1st loss in 10 for West Ham. Despite letting them back into the game we still had the better chances in 2nd half and considering the above, today’s result is a great achievement . Hopefully we kick in from here in the pitch and sign an established striker and defender . As we are only one injury from a crisis at the back.

  47. Aye Troy. I’m definitely still of the opinion Mitrovic is class. Once one or two go in, they’ll start racking up I’m sure.
    He’s doing absolutely everything right but put the ball in the net at the minute, and a lot of his movement has created the space for the likes of Gini to be getting in amongst it.

  53. To be fair to Shelvey, it was not ideal to shoot and the ball was dead. But the fans screamed for him to shoot when there were better options and he did. That is what can happen at SJP with the daftys shooouting. 😉

    When we’re safe you’ll be glad Mike listened to me and wasn’t trigger happy when you started stamping your feet like Elizabeth violet.

    There is no denying, with a decent striker we would be well safe by now and have played some good football along the way. It’s just spoilt by conceding or not scoring enough

  57. Quite brilliant first half performance and should have been 4 up. Started the game like an absolute train and if we play like that we will give ourselves a chance of staying up. Although I’m uncomfortable having to create 23 chances just to score 2…

    Anyway, McLaren has had £70m spent since the summer. 2nd most in the premire league.

    Anyone else noted that Crystal Palace have failed to score in their last 5 league games.

  63. Mitro is a young lad who scored 24 goals last season.
    Yes he’s missed some easy chances but give the kid a break.
    If its not McClaren it Mitro 🙄 you always need to shoot someone down.

    It’s his first season in the premier league. Hes been playing without much support..Ideally he should be used sparingly but due to Fatties penny pinching he now in the deep end and is instantly the main man

  66. Troy @135 – yours is probably a tongue in cheek question, but Riviere got slaughtered for having a similarly poor conversion rate.
    I know people say Mitrovic brings more to the team – but we need our strikers to score above any other contribution.

  67. Mitrovic is a million times better than Riviere, Sharpy! His play today was excellent – his hold play, he brought others into play brilliantly and the chances he did miss were often created by his own good work. Overall he’s still very young and still learning – anyone who thinks we’ve bought a finished article at that age needs to have a think about things.

    Shola was woeful in front of goal. However, he was a good team player and brought others into the game. He scored in the champions league regularly and led the line well.
    Can anyone on here really say with honesty that Mitro is better than Shola. ?
    I go one step further and say Shola was better.

  73. He probably should have scored today, Sharpy but on the other hand I don’t think he missed any sitters – they weren’t all brilliant chances. I still think he’s suffering from a lack of confidence too which won’t help him.
