Game On! Newcastle United V Bournemouth

Biggest game of the season?Welcome all to the Game On thread, where you can dissect and reflect on Newcastle United’s must win home match against Bournemouth as the game progresses.

The thread is late up, so I wont waffle as there is a game to concentrate on. Needless to say if we don’t win today then we the fans expect Steve McClaren to be shown the exit door. Well we expect that anyway… however, this is a must win game and if the lads don’t pull off a result today then no doubt the general consensus will be that we will be playing Championship footy next season.

Newcastle United: Elliot; Janmaat, Taylor, Lascelles, Dummett; Colback, Shelvey; Sissoko, Wijnaldum, Perez; Riviere.

Subs: Darlow, Anita, Saivet, Gouffran, Aarons, Mitrovic, Doumbia.

Bournemouth: Boruc, Smith, Francis, Cook, Daniels, Ritchie, Gosling, Surman, Gradel, King, Afobe
.
Subs: Federici, Elphick, Distin, O’Kane, Pugh, Grabban, Murray.

  1. 2 out of our next 3 games are against Sunderland and Norwich. To have any chance we will need a new manager for these games. Under a new manager we can hope to get an up turn in form and I think we can win them games with a new guy in charge.

Problem is Charnley has only made two appointments; Carver and McClaren. It doesn’t bode well!

  2. McClaren has just said “The positive is we still have ten games to go.” You couldn’t make it up could you? I’m not expecting him to resign but I expect him to be told to clear his desk in the morning.

Reckon the club might dig their heels in and keep him.

      (Quote)

  3. McClaren “We didn’t play to our usual standard, were usually better than that and good attacking but today we weren’t good enough.” Really, Steve? If we are usually better than that why have we only won 6 all season?!!!

      (Quote)

  4. We need scrappers and we haven’t got them, we also need a better coach but we won’t get one . Why, because the club is in freefall and has been for 8 years now. Investment has come too late and on the wrong positions, you need goals to survive in this league and we don’t have them. At the very least you have to build from a solid defence but we think we know better and fill the club with midfielders and you wouldn’t mind but not one of them is top quality.

  5. The man should be a stand up comediean ,i would say he’s lost the plot but did the smirky **** ever have a plot . Of course we would all be smiley happy people if we earned his wages while being so **** at our jobs . For **** sake surely Ashley will act tonight he must see that he cant afford not too.

      (Quote)

  6. Shelvey crying at the final whistle apparently, god help him on the last day of the season. I don’t care if it shows he cares# man up ffs

      (Quote)

  7. We’re very lucky we’ve got 10 games left 🙂 if it was 2 we’d be going down 😯

Listening to SM the blokes deluded.

    I give up….

      (Quote)

  8. It’s all coming down to the game against the mackems to see if we can even stay close to survival. This was a hard loss. But why start Riviere? Why not Doumbia? Complete madness. McLaren is lost. Charnley is lost. Ashley has disappeared. Situation normal then.

      (Quote)

  9. Imagine what saviet is thinking. Didn’t want to come due to our position, gets drop, doesn’t play again and will probably get relegated with us

      (Quote)

  10. He said, he and the players know what they have to do???? Really so what was that today??

  11. The problem with having a gutless owner is times like these. He’s down his hole now and nothing will bring him back up…..

  13. If I was Doumbia I would be going mad with frustration. What is the point of bringing him in to sit on the bench? McLaren wake up! Starting Riviere? You should go back to Derby and beg for your job back. Take Charnley with you and see if they need someone to clean the bog.

      (Quote)

  14. You could have driven a semi through the holes in our midfield. If they hadn’t got in each others’ way a few times they would have had 5. When things go bad we have a few players who give up. Sissoko is one of them. Wini disappears as well. Shelvey made the only decent pass of the game for us for the goal. By the end Colback had completely abandoned his position at LB. WE look undisciplined and lost out there. McLaren has lost the plot and must go.

      (Quote)

  15. That was a display of absolute abject malaise.
There was no fight ! You would think they were playing the final game of the season and sitting comfortably in mid table!
The players are happy to go down in the hope they are offloaded.
If Ashley doesn’t sack McLaren and Charnley then we deserve to give up now as supporters.
Anyone, anyone who keeps saying they wouldn’t sack McLaren unless we get someone better clearly don’t understand my point.
Gashley for one, get a grip, demand his sacking and get any average premier league manager in now! That includes Pearce.
    Dear me.

      (Quote)

  16. Right then! I’ve told my people to prepare my resume. It’s a lot of work getting over there and getting my own people in but it’s worth the effort. First match. Doumbia and Mitro up front with Wij in behind. Hopefully Townsend will be fit again to play one wing and Perez the other. Shelvey in the middle. It’s 4-3-1-2 for the rest of the season!!!

      (Quote)

  17. Stuart
How far have we fallen. I never wanted Moyes because of his style of play. I would lay the red carpet out for him now.

      (Quote)

  18. First job as new manager. Walk in on McLaren, pee in his back pocket and have him dragged out by security. Then up to Lee’s office. Grab him by his chubby little cheeks, give him a whip round the office then down the hallway to the elevator and out in a pile of dust with McLaren.

      (Quote)

  19. Steve McClaren we played like a relegated team, No **** sherlock. We been playing like a relegated team all season. For the love of god please Go.

      (Quote)

  20. Another abysmal display by a bunch of gutless wankers. McLaren must go. Just how bad does he have to be to get sacked. Ashley made billions so I am assuming he cannot be a morn but I’m really beginning to wonder… How can he not act? Surely he can see just how **** we are and how even more **** McWally and Penfold are? Gutted. Just absolutely gutted.

      (Quote)

  21. McClaren is obviously a decent guy but he’s not good enough for what we need. He looked a beaten man today without answers. Ashley needs to put him out of his misery and bring in a proven manager.

      (Quote)

  22. I agree about Moyes style of play, Troy but he also has his teams working their knackers off and that’s exactly what we need. I also think, given the chance he will be able to rebuild the club, if he’s given the freedom.

      (Quote)

  23. Troy in our position style of play does not matter but we have too play ,were not even doing that now . Of those available i would prefer Pearson but would also Welcome moyes or rodgers and i cant stand rodgers but something has too happen .

      (Quote)

  24. Big Ron has bullock’s and McClaren has none. A gutless wimp. Do you want men on the field or do you wants wimps. Lee’s probably having a giggle with McClaren right now.

      (Quote)

  25. A decent guy without a clue Stuart. His player selections have been completely useless. He should have been sacked early in the season as many of us said over and over (including you I think). I would agree to sacking him straight away. Now. Do it Ashley. Bring in Moyes and hold your breath. Then sack Charnley and Carr in the summer. They were the ones begging McLaren to come.

      (Quote)

  26. McClaren a nice guy but the player’s are walking all over him. Big Ron wouldn’t stand it.

      (Quote)

  27. I hear there is a very nice home for retired nitwits that McLaren could try after he leaves us.

      (Quote)

  28. I can just imagine Lee hiding underneath his desk. Afraid to answer the phone encase he gets yelled at. While Carr’s in France watching some vegetable that we should pay 15 million for.

      (Quote)

  29. Carr’s just as bad. He should be in a mental home or sanctioned for signing Thavin alone.

      (Quote)

  30. Carr is a vegetable. You guy’s gave Kinnear **** but at least Ashley had the sense not to trust him with money. Kinnear was harmless compared to Carr.

      (Quote)

  31. he’ll be praying for his pay-off before his little tuft does the disappearing act.

    ale time 😉

      (Quote)

  32. Vegetables are very import Terry mate. That’s why we bring them in. We buy them, then we realize they don’t actually play footy and then we loan them out. It’s simple really. And we bring in top, top sacked coaches from the Championship. That’s why we’re able to strut about now. Show us Ashley. Show us your strut at the next home game.

      (Quote)

  33. Terry, I don’t think the players we’ve signed are that bad. I just think they’ve not been coached very well and generally have no idea what they’re suppose to be doing in games. I don’t think they’re all playing in what would be their best positions either. I’m still not sure McClaren knows where they should be playing either. Why not try and get De Jong in the side along with Mitrovic and Cisse or Perez? De Jong behind two front men with Gini and Sissoko in the middle and Shelvey holding? Perfect diamond formation.

      (Quote)

  34. G2 yes Ashley think’s the sacked manager’s from the championship are the best ones. He really is incredibly stupid. His also given the vegetable 80 million to buy vegetable’s from france and then loan them back for free.

      (Quote)

  35. Nigel Pearson is getting some mentions. Not sure myself but could it get any worse….? He’d definitely fit the Ashley criteria though.

      (Quote)

  36. Terry
I’m with Stuart on this. I’m not convinced the players are thar bad. Management is about belief in your manager in every aspect. Trust, leadership, inspiration and all other associated requirements.
Brian Clough won the european cup with a bunch of renegades. Look at leicester and the hitch potch of players but are winning through team spirit.
    McLaren is a wet lettuce.
Our players are distinctly average but I believe with an inspirational leader we could get out of this.

      (Quote)

  37. The good thing is that we have to play Sunderland and Norwich and with a new manager I reckon we can expect to win them.

      (Quote)

  38. He’s gotta go now surely.
If he’s still in charge for our next game I reckon that’s it, we’re down.
Swans look to have done enough, so one of 4 teams is going to get out of the **** and right now it doesn’t look one bit like it’s going to be us.
Look at who’s currently out of work, Benitez, Mourinho, Rodgers, Moyes. Any of which will not be many peoples first choice or alternatively likely to want to come, but it proves there really is no excuse for sticking with what we have. One of them will be up for it, and any one of them will give us fans a lift and the team a fighting chance.
    No Excuse.

      (Quote)

  39. TROY. honestly do you really believe we could get out of this ? I honestly think half the squad dont give a fck anymore and it does not matter who we could bring in were down . I reckon we need a manager that will sort the Squad out and get the battlers fighting and the cowards out come the summer. Its about getting the right man in for the Championship both Pearson and Rodgers know that division and proved they can do a job their. At this moment in time i would be happy with ethier.

      (Quote)

  40. Just home from an inept pathetic display. Players and coaching staff must be massively embarrassed.
No change means relegation. Change might not be even enough.

If a worse left back has ever played for Newcastle I must have missed that game. Colback wouldn’t get a game for The Bay Horse on Sunday morning.
    Rivierre just isn’t good enough.

      (Quote)

  41. No team would want to play Leicester next.

I wonder who their next opponents are

      (Quote)

  42. The players we have aren’t bad, they just don’t work fucking hard enough!!!.
Shelvey was the only one I could say worked his socks off today.

That said, Rivi as a lone CF in a home game?????????.
Rivi is not good enough – full spot.
McClaren deserves the sack for playing Gouffran last week & Rivi this week. Leave Mitrovic & Doom on the bench is just fucking stupid.

There was Penfold sat in the stands, totally fucking clueless!!!!.

Oh and post match update …. 10 cup finals left.

      (Quote)

  43. recently sacked and still unemployed – he must stand a great chance of being the next manager.

of course that all depends on whether he is prepared to do as he’s told & also be the clubs mouthpiece.

    i doubt he will.

      (Quote)

  44. There was a picture of Charnley with his hand over his eyes. He was either trying to avoid being seen or he couldn’t watch the **** no more.

McClaren is just lost. He has no more ideas so he is just throwing players on the pitch hoping something happens. He’s trying to find a light switch in the dark.

I expect the club to have sacked him tomorrow and appoint Moyes by Monday.

      (Quote)

  45. http://mobile.newsnow.co.uk/A/2/819557927?-11058:809:t

Perez has been one of our best players in the last 2 seasons, yet this clown McClaren decides to drop him, and admits to dropping him coz he’s young.
He selected Gouffran instead last week. He’s playing Sissoko week in week out – not really working out all that good is it **** head?!.

I’m so ****** off that these stupid ******* who run our club have stuck with this charlatan … and there are only 10 fucking games left for anyone stupid enough to take over to try and get something – and there is now a clear gap from 5th bottom.

That though, is of course dependant on these thick ***** finally getting their act together – and I will not be holding my breath.

      (Quote)

  46. If McClaren had any dignity he would resign. As if he hasn’t done enough damage already. He waiting for the pay off until then his staying. Worst manager ever.

      (Quote)

  47. Bmouth win today takes them to 35 pts in 14th place.
I reckon that makes them safe, coz I just don’t see us getting 11 pts, even if we change managers.

Last time round I had faith we were going to stay up even when we went behind against Villa.
This time I think we are down even though there is still 30pts up for grabs.
    That’s bad isn’t it.

You totally confuse me. How much thought do you give to the situation?
Do you analyse the facts, look at history, understand the game or just look at matters on a surfacical level. ?
A change of managers can have great effects. I’ve been saying it all season.
A relatively average manager can have an amazing short term effect which can get clubs out of desperate situations.
These managers aren’t long term solutionS but can work short term.
Sunderland are experts in it. Why don’t people on this blog listen to me.
I’ve been saYong it since game 10 onwards.
I saw early doors McLaren didn’t have it. Yet in contrast, when everyone was wanting Pardew sacked, I saw his benefits.
I’m not gloating but I get frustrated with the naivety of 90% of bloggers on here.
I used to get hammered about my predictions of Ashley back in 2010. I never wavered despite the absolute abuse I took. I could see in wold be proven right.
Wake up everyone. Smell the coffee. Jump on the Reality Train. 😉

  50. Also, Troy, Pardew is on a run at Palace that comes near his wonderful work with us. He has it all his own way there yet he is still failing like he did here.

I am really not sure what drugs you’re on to say there was benefit in keeping Pardew at all.

  51. Where is the confidence guru TDS gone ? He would be saying he hasn’t been on because we are to negative. I would like to ask TDS what’s there to be positive about ? Our most positive blogger Toon army elite is nowhere to be seen. Things are really bad

Where do you expect Palace to be at the end of the season with their budget? They are bang on course.
Just like the toon were under Pardew.
You never make sense to me but that’s football.

      (Quote)

  53. Palace may end up where expected, they may end up worse. I’d say that we are ending up where I expected at the start of the season so we’re on course too. Doesn’t mean McClaren is any good or Pardew is any good either.

    Both are shitehawks.

      (Quote)

  54. So you criticise palace but admit they may end up where they should.
All clubs in the premier league are bring criticised by their own fans bar Leicester, spurs West Ham, Stoke, Southampton, Watford Bournemouth and maybe another.
That’s more than half. Get a grip.
Pardew is doing a decent job at Palace. I wish he was still in charge of us.
You wanted him out. I warned you again st it. You got your wish. Stop blaming others. I blame you. You should as well.

      (Quote)

  55. Nick/Andrew – please please please change the site back to how it was in terms of lay out.

Having the posts numbered was a big plus. But also being able to tap on the last post to take you straight to the comments was so much better too.

I know it’s your new baby and you’re trying to put your own stamp on it, but it wasn’t broke lads.
