Newcastle are set to revive their interest in Anderlecht winger, Frank Acheampong, according to Africa Top Sports.
Rafa Benitez enquired about the 22 year-old Ghanian earlier this year but the Belgian club weren’t interested in releasing their striker. Now, with several other clubs interested, Newcastle have been alerted to his availability. With Georgino Wijnaldum desperate to leave, Acheampong is seen as an ideal long-term replacement.
He isn’t a callow youth and with 118 appearances for Anderlecht and 9 international caps, has the experience we will need in this season’s Championship. His contributions are well recognised in Brussels. Last season, he scored nine times and was credited with six assists. His contract runs until 2019 so it looks as if Acheampong won’t come cheap.
Wijnaldum meanwhile, is set to move to Everton, according to the bookies that is. The odds of Tottenham signing him have dropped as they secured Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar earlier this week.
