Player claims he was “very close” to NUFC move last summer – & reveals why deal collapsed

In August last year, Sky Italy claimed Newcastle United were in talks to sign highly-rated Inter Milan striker Facundo Colidio.

Several months later, the Argentinian ‘wonderkid’ has now confirmed that our interest was ‘real’, revealing how a move to St James’ Park was “very close” at one stage last summer.

Speaking to TyC Sports, here’s what the 20-year-old has had to say – stating that the move collapsed as the two clubs were unable to agree a fee:

“It was real. It was very close, but it ended up not happening because between the clubs they didn’t agree.

And when closing the transfer window in England, this chance appeared.”

Colidio is an Argentinian U-20 international who has bagged 3 goals in 9 appearances form his country, also scoring 5 goals in 5 games for Inter Milan in last season’s UEFA Youth League.

Instead, he completed a loan move to Belgium last summer, and has since bagged 3 goals and 7 assists in 16 appearances with Jupiler Pro League side St. Truiden.

One Newcastle United may live to regret in a few years time? Time will tell!
