The powerful picture that perfectly sums up Mike Ashley’s soul-sucking spell at SJP

If there’s a picture that ever summed up Mike Ashley’s time on Tyneside, it’s a big Newcastle United gate that leads to nothing other than a brick wall.

These are the sentiments shared by protest group Toon For Change, who’ve just perfectly summed up Mike Ashley’s miserable time on Tyneside with the following tweet:

Gates represent an opening and an opportunity, yet Mike Ashley’s lead to nothing and go absolutely nowhere – and that’s summed us up during his time on Tyneside.

If we’ve not been going backwards – thanks to two relegations and a countless number of relegation battles – we’ve remained stagnant, with him often happy providing we survive by the skin of our teeth.

His errors have been huge and constant, but it’s been his lack of investment and constant neglect that have infuriated so many, turning what was once a side capable of competing to a zombie club settling for nothing other than Premier League safety.

Shameless lies, PR stunts and awful appointments aside, we’ve seen St James’ Park get left to rot (literally), the training ground continue to look light years behind that of ambitious Premier League rivals and our playing squad controlled via a tedious transfer policy.

Hopefully the Saudis can immediately break the chains he tied to our club 13 years ago, bringing some hope and ambition back to that sleeping giant that is St James’ Park.

  1. The likes of Danny Rose has a cheek. Complaining that he shouldn’t be playing because people are dying and players might not be safe. Reality check, Danny, many other people are having to go back to work and footballers will be the safest employees in the country apart from NHS workers. Stop taking your wages if you don’t want to play.

People are living in cloud cuckoo land if they think travelling, socialising, seeing family or in some cases even having a job will happen again in any meaningful way given the extremities the government are going to.

Again, there’s a difference between being alive and living.

Many older people would rather take a risk and see this family with what short time they have left I am sure, rather than being couped up at home with the odd visit through the glass…

Stu – we’ve not agreed much this last few days, but we do one this.

Those footballers who have family members who are high risk and shielding, then yeah I get they would want to stay away. But those that don’t should be back and getting on with it.

I’m sure they will get regularly tested by the clubs and well protected throughout.

  3. Chancellor has said the furlough scheme will run to the end of Oct ??????.
That’s the type of important information that needed to come out early doors. That gives both employers and employees the confidence and wiggle room to do things the right way when it comes to getting people back to work.

    Well done Rishi lad ??

  4. It’s too odd to me that yesterday the Kassoghi objection emerged. It’s three weeks old. Then today the Bein piracy issues come up again. Could it be that the PL are just starting to look at the takeover now? Weird and far from done.

  5. So now PL happy to play at normal grounds as police have said they can as long as they cover the costs. Fair enough. Now get on with it.
