Steve Bruce ditches 4 players as NUFC announce official 25-man squad – See it in full here

Newcastle United have released their official 25-man squad for the first half of the 2020/21 Premier League season – and it sees Steve Bruce axe FOUR senior players.

Christian Atsu misses out after falling way down the pecking order following Ryan Fraser’s arrival and Jacob Murphy’s return.

There’s also no place for Henri Saivet, Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons after they forgotten trio failed to secure moves away last week.

Here’s the final squad in full (* = U21 players who don’t count towards the 25):

GOALKEEPERS – Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow, Mark Gillespie

DEFENDERS – Javier Manquillo, Emil Krafth, DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Jamal Lewis.

MIDFIELDERS – Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Jeff Hendrick, Sean Longstaff, Matt Ritchie, Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser, Allan Saint-Maximin, Jacob Murphy, Matty Longstaff*

FORWARDS – Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle

Interesting to see that Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie both make the 25, with the club clearly feeling they’ll be fit before clubs can resubmit their 25-man squads in January.

Here’s what Bruce has had to say after selecting his Premier League squad:

“Selecting the squad is always difficult because you know you have to leave people out. With all the players, they’re professionals and they want to play week in, week out.

“With the players we’ve brought in, it makes it even tougher but it’s a decision you have to make.

“Those who aren’t involved will continue to train and keep themselves right and once we hit December and January, we hope we can get them fixed up with clubs.”
