England now set to call-up out of form Premier League striker instead of Callum Wilson at 2pm?

If The Guardina’s latest report on the upcoming England squad is anything to go by, Callum Wilson could be set to miss out on Gareth Southgate’s latest selection.

David Hynter’s piece states that Mason Greenwood is set to return to the fold in place of the injured Danny Ings, with Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin also guaranteed a place in his squad.

With four strikers often called up, it leaves Tammy Abraham and Callum Wilson vying for the final spot – and our £20m man seems up against it given the Chelsea striker has been a regular part of Southgate’s plans over the past year.

The big one is Greenwood, however. If he really is set to replace Ings then the writing could be on the wall for Wilson – not that it makes sense to pick a player who’s yet to score this season in three Premier League starts over an in-form striker with six goals already!

Not only that, Greenwood missed out on the last England squad due to disciplinary issues (he broke quarantine rules by inviting girls to his hotel room in Iceland) and has rarely played as a central striker of late, often playing on the right-hand side instead.

Here’s the last England squad selected by Southgate on October 1st for last month’s Nations League games:

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Manchester United), Nick Pope (Burnley), Jordan Pickford (Everton).

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ben Chilwell (Chelsea), Conor Coady (Wolves), Eric Dier (Tottenham), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Michael Keane (Everton), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal), Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid), Kyle Walker (Manchester City).

Midfielders: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United), Declan Rice (West Ham), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton), Harry Winks (Tottenham).

Forwards: Tammy Abraham (Chelsea), Harvey Barnes (Leicester), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Danny Ings (Southampton), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

Only time will tell, with the official England squad set to be announced at 2pm today.

Do you think Wilson will make it?
