Bruce eyeing 3 signings in next 48 hours after defensive duo are ruled out for “at least” a few weeks

According to the Daily Mail, Steve Bruce wants up to THREE new signings before Monday’s 11pm deadline – with a centre-back now on the agenda after Jamaal Lascelles‘ hamstring injury at Everton.

The NUFC boss has stated that the skipper will be missing for ‘at least’ a few weeks and joins Federico Fernandez on the sidelines – another defender Bruce is expecting to be without for the foreseeable future (see his comments on both below).

As for the other two signings, the Daily Mail reckon we’re looking at loan deals for Arsenal’s Joe Willock AND Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury – suggesting Bruce wants both an attacking midfielder and holding midfielder before the window slams shut.

Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham is also named in the report as someone we’ve ‘asked about’, however no names are mentioned on the centre-back front. Fikayo Tomori was previously linked but landed himself a loan move to AC Milan last week.

Here’s what Bruce has had to say about Lascelles and Fernandez’s hamstring injuries:

Bruce on Lascelles

“It’s a hamstring injury.

“What we’ve found is the lads that have struggled with Covid have struggled with fatigue.

“Ciaran Clark has come back in but it looks as if Jamaal will miss at least a good few weeks.”

Bruce on Fernandez

“Fernandez won’t be ready for at least another couple of weeks.”

  1. it’s too late now, never get anyone over the line in this short space of time[ha ha]. besides with this win at everton ashley will think we won’t need anybody.

  2. Am I the only one who thinks we are a better team without Lascelles in it…what we need is pace at the back, and don’t get me started in the keeper…
