Joe Willock is finally on his way to Tyneside!
The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie and The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder have confirmed this afternoon that the Arsenal midfielder is heading North today and will undergo a medical at the club on Friday morning.
Ryder states that the player and his dad have informed Newcastle that they are now ‘happy’ with the terms offered by the club, with Ornstein claiming that he’ll sign a SIX-year deal at the club after a contract was agreed.
Newcastle now face a race against time to get Willock signed up before 12pm tomorrow – with the Premier League’s deadline dictating whether or not he’ll be able to feature in Sunday’s clash with West Ham at St James’ Park.
Here’s what all three reporters have had to say, with Newcastle hopeful he’ll sign in time:
David Ornstein (The Athletic):
Joe Willock has agreed personal terms with Newcastle United on a six-year contract ahead of his move from Arsenal.
The Athletic understands a fee in excess of £20 million has been agreed for the 21-year-old midfielder, who is travelling to Newcastle today and is expected to undergo a medical on Friday morning.
Lee Ryder (The Chronicle):
Joe Willock and his dad have now told #nufc they are happy with the terms offered. Player leaving London and medical booked in.
The hope is #nufc can get Willock done before the 12pm deadline for the West Ham game. Obviously, the deal stalling earlier means it might be touch and go.
Keith Downie (Sky Sports):
Joe Willock set to travel to the North East for a medical after Newcastle & the player agreed personal terms in principle.
Great news and the big breakthrough we’ve been waiting for all summer – let’s just hope he’s signed in time for Sunday!|
This is fantastic news for all Newcastle United fans. ??
