Newcastle launch new £35m bid, but club look set for nervous wait over Diego Carlos – Report

Last night, Sky Sports announced that Diego Carlos had officially asked to leave Sevilla, with The Guardian following this up by reporting that the La Liga club had ‘accepted defeat’ in their attempts to keep him in Spain.

Now, Mark Douglas has released a new piece for i news, stating that we have upped our offer to £35m for the centre-back.

It’s his understanding that personal terms would not be a problem, yet it seems we are still having difficulty agreeing a fee with Sevilla; who seem determined to get the best price possible for the 28-year-old.

As a result, there are fears we are now running out of time to get a deal done ahead of Saturday’s crucial trip to Leeds.

Not only does a fee need to be agreed, he’d also need to obtain a visa as an overseas signing, meaning Friday’s 12pm deadline is looking more and more difficult to meet.

What’s more, the same report states that he’s travelled with the Sevilla squad for their trip to Valencia tonight, giving the clearest signal yet that no bid has been accepted by the La Liga side.

So, it seems we’re set for a nervous wait, hoping he’ll not only avoid injury tonight, but also that a fee can be agreed ASAP so he signs in good time for Saturday’s huge game at Elland Road.

  1. Our new owners are a joke if they are haggling over 5 mil given the severity of our situation and quality of our squad. Pay what they want or you think is reasonable or move on. Let’s face it improving the quality of our back line is not a high bar and there are many options out there.
