Newcastle ‘register interest’ in Italian ace but face tough competition – Report

According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle will battle Italian giants Napoli and Inter Milan for the signing of Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca.

The 23-year-old has been a consistent goal scorer for his side, contributing 16 goals in 35 games – fifth highest in the league – as they hope to finish in the top half of Serie A.

Last September, the youngster also made his debut for the Italian national team in a 5-0 victory over Lithuania so will be desperate to fight to keep his place in Roberto Mancini’s squad.

It’s no secret that Newcastle will want to add to their firepower next season and, with the potency of the Italian international, it could be a perfect solution.

It has been reported that we are willing to pay up to £42million for the striker’s talents to dramatically improve our goal scoring threat.

However, Scamacca has been scouted by some of the top teams in Europe with Napoli looking at him as a potential replacement for Victor Osimehn should he leave while Inter are also interested in forming a strike partnership with him and Lautaro Martinez.
