Matt Targett could join Premier League rivals instead of NUFC – Player ‘prefers’ to be further south – Report

Aston Villa defender Matt Targett, who spent the last six months on loan at Newcastle, could join newly promoted Fulham with the full-back preferring to live down south where his family are still based.

Newcastle have been very interested in making Targett’s loan permanent with manager Eddie Howe being very vocal in his admiration of the player while teammate Bruno Guimaraes has previously claimed “he has to stay.”

A £15million fee has been rumoured to be the price for the 26-year-old who has been very dependable for us in the short time he has spent at the club – a huge upgrade on the likes of Matt Ritchie or Jamal Lewis.

Newcastle are also interested in Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi, former teammate of Kieran Trippier and current Brazil teammate of Bruno, which would give us a different option should Targett turn us down.

The former Southampton man is already well loved in Newcastle and most fans have expressed their desire for him to stay, but only time will tell on where he chooses to go.

You are obviously not very good at your job, looking for business partners on a Newcastle United fan site.

  3. Of course Targett’s faamily would still be down south – he was only up here on loan. You don’t move your family up north because you are on a six month loan.
Target would have to be a special kind of dumb (or seriously whipped) to choose Fulham over Newcastle.
Let’s weigh up the Pros and Cons for him.

    Pros
Fulham is closer to his family

    Cons
He’s proven himself with Newcastle, plays well with the players, in the system, and the fans love him. He certainly didn’t play that well with Villa. He could go to Fulham and it could be a disaster.
Fulham have spent more time in the Championship than St Maximin spends on the ground. They might be Prem next season but history suggests they’ll go straight back down. Does he really want to play in the Championship?
At Newcastle he will be part of history. He has been without a doubt one of the stand out players of the new era. Why would he not want to be part of what’s going to happen here.

So it’s sorted then Matt. You sign a new deal and tell the wife she’s moving.
It will be good for the family – learning a new language and all that!
