Player turns down Newcastle ahead of £50m move in favour of living in London – Report

It looks like Newcastle United showed interest in Richarlison prior to his seemingly imminent arrival at Spurs.

According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, the club made enquiries about the Brazilian, but were told he had no interest in arriving at St James’ Park as he “only wanted a London move.”

Chelsea also looked to sign him, but with Thomas Tuchel’s side prioritising a move for Man City’s Raheem Sterling instead, it looks like the Everton forward will complete a move to Tottenham.

Sky Sports report that the deal is all but done, with the 25-year-old expected to sign for £50m (plus a further £10m in add-ons) after the completion of a medical in Brazil.

In reality, we’d have struggled to beat Spurs to his signature even if he was open to arriving on Tyneside, with the fee also likely to have been a bit much for our liking. However, it’s another signal of intent that we’re showing interest in quality players like Richarlison, Raphinha and Moussa Diaby as we look to add goals to our attack.

It’ll be interesting to see how this move impacts our pursuit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as you’d think Everton are reluctant to lose TWO of their star forwards in one window.

  1. Pleased he wanted to live in London cos I would not want Tom Daleys (diving expert) coach playing for us

  2. I think we dodged the bullet with Richarlison. He goes down before any trigger has been pulled. He’s cost Everton capitalising on opportunities falling to other player by diving. Not what we need at the Toon.

  3. Dodged a bullet there, that’s if we were even interested? Leave the other crock alone as well, we need the right players, one is a diver the other a diva( thinks he’s a model) ha

  4. Definitely didnt want him at Newcastle.
He’s a disgrace and should not be in the Premier League.
Cant stay on his feet for more than 5 minutes at a time.

  5. Seems the bright lights are more important to him than playing football. Easily distracted. Lost count of the chances he’s wasted trying to get a penalty rather than trying to score. Sling your hook, we’ve got the best of Brazil already – and you don’t come close.
