Journalist sends reassuring message to Toon fans & reveals signing one of four targets is ‘likely’

Mark Douglas, reporter for the iPaper, has revealed that he believes Newcastle will go on to sign one of Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja or Christian Pulisic but in the last few days of the window.

On social media, Douglas also reassured fans that Newcastle are now ‘working from a position of strength’ and not desperation as in recent years.

Nerves are certainly high with a lot supporters itching to hear the confirmation of our fourth signing of the summer, but Douglas is keen to remind them that we are trying to make the ‘right’ signings who can grow with the club.

The rumour of our second bid for Watford’s Joao Pedro has divided opinion amongst the fanbase due to his poor goal scoring record, but at just 20-years-old the young man still has a lot of potential to fill.

Signing one of the four out of favour Chelsea players would definitely be a step in the right direction and any one of them would improve our starting 11 – the question now remains as to which one we target.

  1. You don’t become a goal scorer, you either have it or you don’t, just look at Almiron and Wood to name but two, that’s why it has divided opinion.

  3. A couple of cracking statements in there.

We are going to sign somebody , but “in the last few days of the window.”
Has there ever been a more vague statement of time as “the last few days”?
Could be today, tomorrow or next week.

I’m also struggling with something else that was said.
As we line up to play City on Saturday , and last week didn’t have a single effort on goal, AND so far have not brought in anything resembling an upgrade to our attack, which bit of this in any way supports the statement that we are “working from a position of strength”?
We’ve known for many months (even years) that we need to improve our front line, and with less than 2 weeks to go until the transfer window does it’s “privvy door when the plagues in town” impression, we are still desperately searching for a striker.
It’s not the fact that the window is closing that’s annoying – it’s the fact that we are 3 games in.
