Club officials watch £60m winger in Champions League clash alongside Chelsea, Arsenal & Spurs – Report

It seems Newcastle United are still keeping a close eye on summer target Moussa Diaby.

According to 90min, we were one of five Premier League clubs who sent scouts to watch the Frenchman in Champions League action last week.

They report that officials from Newcastle, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Man City were all present as he scored in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

Diaby actually rounded off the scoring at the BayArena to hand Leverkusen their first win of the group stages, however it’s been a torrid start to the season at domestic level.

Leverkusen sit fourth bottom of the Bundesliga after just one win from their opening seven games, also being dumped out of the cup at the first attempt.

Diaby has also suffered as a result of their poor form, being left out of the France squad for September’s international break – a real blow just a few months before Didier Deschamps picks his final World Cup squad.

The Telegraph revealed back in July that we hadn’t given up on the 23-year-old, despite the German’s demanding a whopping £60m for their star winger, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens given our need for a new right-sided attacker has been abundantly clear over the past two home games.
