In his latest piece for The Athletic, Chris Waugh has been discussing some of the attackers on Newcastle United’s watchlist as ahead of the January transfer window.
He insists that Eddie Howe is ‘particularly keen’ to bring in a new wide forward after trying and failing to strengthen this position over the summer.
The six names mentioned as players of particular interest include Leicester’s James Maddison, Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, Leeds’ Jack Harrison, Anthony Gordon of Everton, Watford’s Joao Pedro and Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Waugh insists that there is a ‘long list’ of options currently under consideration, but it’s interesting to see Mudryk emerge as a new name being scouted.
That said, the report highlights that Diaby, Harrison and Gordon may prove unattainable once again due to the huge fees Newcastle were quoted over the summer, however there’s some hope around Maddison given he is approaching the final 18 months of his contract.
Joao Pedro may also be one to watch, with The Athletic revealing that the Brazilian’s name is still being discussed during internal meeting on Tyneside, suggesting our interest in the Watford star is anything but dead after we ended up with Alexander Isak instead.
