Newcastle have been heavily linked with the 18-year-old by a host o Brazilian outlets in recent weeks, and Romano has now reaffirmed those rumours – but insists that there’s ‘no agreement’ between the two clubs, as things stand.

Santos has shown some good form for Vasco da Gama, scoring five times in 27 appearances in Brazil’s second division, earning himself a call-up to his nations Under-20 squad.

One issue that we will encounter is the price. With the teenager signing a five-year contract featuring a £45m release clause, the Magpies may be forced to stump up the cash if they believe Santos is the future of our midfield.

Other European giants such as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been said to be intrigued by the young star in recent reports and Newcastle will have to be prepared for a tough battle to sign the top prospect.
