Why James Maddison deal ‘could yet be done’ in January despite Leicester’s £45m stance

According to ESPN’s Mark Ogden, Leicester’s James Maddison is still a ‘leading’ target for Newcastle and the East Midlands club may have to sell if the midfielder refuses to sign a new deal.

The Magpies had attempted to sign the England international twice during the summer, but the Foxes rejected both of our bids, with our final offer coming in around the £45m mark.

However, with 18 months left on his contract and ESPN reporting that Brendan Rodgers must sell to raise funds, it’s thought Leicester could look to cash in on the 26-year-old in January.

Maddison has been the standout performer at the King Power stadium this season recording 11 goals and assists in just 13 games and rightly earning his spot in the England World Cup team.

With Eddie Howe believed to be a big fan of the England international, he would be an ideal candidate to help our European push should he become available for the right price.
