Player en-route for medical as Newcastle agree to first major exit of 2023 – The Telegraph

Some big news has emerged from The Telegraph in the last few moments, confirming that Nottingham Forest have now agreed a deal with Newcastle for Chris Wood.

John Percy, The Telegraph’s main man in the Midlands, reports that the Kiwi will sign on an initial loan deal that includes an ‘obligation to buy’ should ‘certain triggers’ be met over the next six months.

Wood is now expected to travel down to Nottingham for his medical tonight, seeing him leave St James’ Park just 12 months on from a £25m move from Burnley.

Looking back, we overpaid for the 31-year-old – who has bagged just five goals in 39 appearances under Eddie Howe – but he still played a key role in our push towards safety over the second half of the 2021/22 season.

His exit leaves Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak as the only recognised strikers at the club, so you’d think a replacement is in the pipeline now we’ve sanction his move to the City Ground.
