With Toon target Ivan Fresneda now expected to join Arsenal or Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United have been forced to look elsewhere in search of a new right-back.
Over the final few days of the window, the club tried to bring West Ham’s Harrison Ashby to St James’ Park – and it seems we’re back in for the Scotland U21 international.
In a video update yesterday (watch it below), The Mail’s Craig Hope revealed that we’ve had another bid rejected by the Hammers for the 21-year-old talent.
He reports that we ‘remain in talks’ to sign the defender. It remains to be seen if we’ll agree a deal this month, but Ashby is out of contract at the end of the season and appears to be our back-up plan to Fresneda.
Interestingly, The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder reports that we have ‘excellent links’ with Wasserman; the player’s agency and the same company who represent Eddie Howe.
He adds that the Toon boss is an admirer of the the Irons full-back and believes he could be a ‘big part’ of our future as we search for a long-term replacement for Kieran Trippier.
