EXCLUSIVE: Teenage striker invited to St James’ Park ahead of Toon trial

Last month, we released an exclusive revealing that Jamaican talent Dujuan Richards was set for a two-week trial on Tyneside.

The 17-year-old striker will link up with our Under-21 side on Monday 6th February and spend a fortnight with the club, aiming to earn himself a contract within our new-look Academy.

After touching down in England in the final few days of January alongside Kyle Butler – the brother of Aston Villa star Leon Bailey – we can reveal that both were in attendance for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham.

The teenage sensation, who goes by the nickname ‘Whisper’, was given his first glimpse of St James’ Park as he sat in the Milburn Stand alongside Butler, sharing pictures on social media before he gets to work at our Benton training base on Monday.

Richards arrives from Phoenix Academy on the back of an incredible season in his homeland, where he bagged 29 goals and 19 assists in the Manning Cup; a local schoolboy tournament.

Our Under-21s face Leeds United on February 13th. It’s not yet known if he’ll feature in that Premier League 2 fixtures, but the trialist could be one to watch out for that night and the latest promising youngster snapped up by our development squad.

Good luck, Dujuan!
