Toon eye World Cup winner ‘ready’ for summer move – Chelsea, Liverpool & Spurs also keen – Report

Newcastle United are one of several Premier League clubs monitoring Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister, according to 90min.

The report claims that the Argentine international is ‘ready to take the next step in his career’ after lifting the World Cup in December, with Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea also thought to be admirers of the 24-year-old.

Mac Allister started six of Argentina’s seven World Cup matches and went on to play a key role for the Copa América holders, starting that thrilling final that his country went on to win via penalties.

It would be a financial challenge and test of our ambition to secure the midfielder, as the Seagulls have proved to be tough negotiators in the past. As seen with the Moises Caicedo saga, they simply won’t sell if the price isn’t right.

That said, links between Brighton and Dan Ashworth could work in our favour if we really are looking to bring Mac Allister to Tyneside. Our new sporting director often utilised the South American market during his time at the Amex, so could have a good relationship with him.

Mac Allister was pictured on social media with Will Shearer, Alan Shearer’s son, just a few days ago, sparking this tweet from our former No 9. Let’s hope big Al put in a good word!
