Dan Ashworth spotted watching England talent as Toon chief eyes another young star – Report

As revealed by The Mail, Dan Ashworth has been on scouting duty over the past week to watch Blackburn sensation Adam Wharton.

The report claims that he was one of THIRTY talent spotters in attendance to watch the 18-year-old in last Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Coventry at Ewood Park.

Wharton is a player Ashworth already knows from his time at the FA, as the highly-rated holding midfielder is a regular in England’s U19 side and has also been capped at U16 level.

He’s made 19 first-team appearances for Blackburn this season, starting three of their last four Championship games as Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side push for a place in the play-offs.

Based on the number of scouts watching Wharton, we could face intense competition for his signature this summer, but he appears to be another one to watch in our ongoing search for emerging talent.
