‘Angry’ former Mag axed just three months after Newcastle United exit – The Telegraph

Jonjo Shelvey has been banished by Steve Cooper just three months after leaving Tyneside to join Nottingham Forest, as reported by The Telegraph.

The former Toon midfielder is believed to have been ‘ordered to stay at home’ after his ‘angry’ reaction at being left out of the starting XI that faced Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Shelvey has struggled to find form since his January move to the Reds – his most recent contribution was an awful clearance against Aston Villa that led to their opening goal – and his training performances are said to have been below par.

The 31-year-old was then dropped for Forest’s next two games against Man United and Liverpool and reacted badly to the decision, prompting Cooper to send him home.

With Shelvey struggling to get back into the team and Chris Wood out for the season, it makes Newcastle January transfer dealings look all the more impressive despite doubts at the time about letting a midfielder leave.
