NUFC player ratings vs Everton – Three 9s, several 8s, the odd 7 and two 6s

Another huge win for the Magpies, as a clinical second half display saw us run riot at Goodison Park. Here come the ratings where the Toon who are odds on favourites to make the top 4 according to kaikki nettikasinot can surely smell Champions League Football now!

Nick Pope – 6 – Didn’t have a lot to do most of the night but definitely should’ve done better with the corner for the Everton goal. Did make a solid stop to deny Calvert-Lewin.

Kieran Trippier – 8 – Outstanding defensive performance from England’s best right back. Passed the ball beautifully and his set piece delivery was dangerous. Threatened to go off with a knock late in the first half but battled on after some half time treatment. World class operator with a professional performance as always.

Fabian Schar – 8 – Absolutely superb defensive performance from the Swiss, who did superbly to stop Calvert-Lewin getting a shot off after tracking his run and blocking his route to goal early on. Passed the ball beautifully into midfield and was so unlucky to have a majestic strike ruled out late on in the match.

Sven Botman – 9 – Back to his best with a commanding display at centre back. Totally dominated in the air and on the ground, unbelievably composed on the ball and timed a few vital tackles to perfection. Head and shoulders the best defender on the pitch, seriously looks the part and could get in any Premier League team.

Matt Targett – 7 – Thought he did well considering it was his first start from a long injury lay-off. Seemed to struggle with fitness as the second half went on and was subsequently taken off for Burn just after the hour mark. Decent on the ball, tried to get forward, but was booked after being done for pace by Iwobi.

Sean Longstaff – 7 – A little off the pace in the first half, but continued to get through a lot of work off the ball, giving us that box-to-box energy against a physical Everton midfield. Somehow denied a blatant penalty and taken off for Isak with 20 to play.

Bruno Guimaraes – 8 – A composed performance in the middle of the park from Bruno. Showed fantastic composure in key moments and drove us up the pitch in the second half brilliantly. Made two key passes and even chipped in with an assist for Wilson’s wonder-strike. When given time and space, he will tear you apart. Mature and professional showing from our Brazilian maestro.

Joe Willock – 8 – Stringing together some beautiful performances at present. Looked the real deal again with some driving runs down the left hand side. Wonderful assist for Joelinton’s header with a lovely run to the byline n elegant clip to the middle of the box. Really unlucky not to score just before with a brilliant block from Tarkowski and stunning save from Pickford moments later. Has to be in the next England squad.

Miguel Almiron – 6 – Too many cheap giveaways, as he struggled to get up to pace of the game. Worked hard and sometimes looked a threat when cutting inside, but was a little bit too predictable in attack. We looked transformed when Murphy came on.

Joelinton – 9 – Totally bossed the midfield battle again, but also played a key role in the final third. Came alive for our opener, as his run, lovely cut inside and shot was tapped home by Wilson. Superb movement in the second half for his header, giving us that crucial 2-0 lead. A few cheap giveaways in the first half, but he more than mae up for it. That Brazil call up can’t be far off now.

Callum Wilson – 9* – Superb performance from Wilson who was excellent with his hold up play and brought other players into the game. Took his first goal clinically like the poacher he is and his second was just a thing of total beauty, curled into the top corner. Seems to be thriving off the extra competition for a starting position.

Substitutes:

Jacob Murphy – 7 – Looked a real livewire off the bench, incredibly sharp and looked a real threat. Right place at the right time for his goal but blazed another chance over late on.

Alexander Isak – 8 – His assist for Murphy’s goal will be showed again and again for some time. A majestic solo run down the left hand side, beating about four or five Blue shirts to put it on a plate for Murphy. Special.

Dan Burn – 6 – Was solid off the bench defensively coming on for Targett. Was unwell through the week hence him dropping to the bench.

Anthony Gordon – N/A – Great to see him off the bench and was absolutely desperate to make a difference. Looked a threat and really sharp off the bench.

Elliot Anderson – N/A – Only played five minutes. Didn’t get on the ball all that often.

  1. I’m a fan of willock.
Thought he was a bit anonymous first half but had a gorgeous 20 min spell 2nd half and was unlucky not to score twice. both shots looked like he’d been working on controlled
    Placement for shots
if that volley had come off we’d be waxing about it in a similar way to his pass last weekend.
Lovely balance at pace to switch feet for the dink into Joelinton the 2nd goal
