If the latest reports emerging from France are to be believed, Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in Rennes midfielder Lovro Majer.
According to popular French outlet Foot Mercato, we have approached the Ligue 1 side over the possibility bringing the Croatian to St James’ Park this summer.
The piece states that we’ve made contact with Rennes to find out more information about the player’s availability, being told he will be allowed to leave if an offer of ‘around €40m’ comes their way.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, who has been likened to compatriot Luka Modric for his technical ability, tight dribbling, high-energy and quality in possession.
Majer can operate as a No 8 or No 10 and has bagged eight goals and 13 assists since leaving Dinamo Zagreb for Rennes two years ago.
