Player ‘keen to join’ Newcastle, Toon pursuing mystery midfielder and Brighton lurking – Report

According to Mark Douglas at the ipaper, Toon target Tino Livramento is ‘keen to join’ Newcastle United this summer.

As we revealed earlier this month, Eddie Howe is now pursuing a deal for the Southampton full-back, with The Telegraph, The Athletic and Sky Sports all reporting on our interest last night.

Not only has Douglas confirmed that the player is eager to sign at St James’ Park, he adds that we’re also working on a deal for an unnamed midfielder, suggesting there’s two potential arrivals in the pipeline alongside AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.

James Maddison looks more likely to join Spurs at this stage and it’s not clear if we’ll pursue a right-sided attacker or defensive-minded No 6, making our search for another midfielder both exciting and unpredictable.

Back to Livramento, iNews report that Brighton are also showing interest in the 20-year-old talent, suggesting we’ll face some competition for the England U21 international. However, Newcastle are ‘confident’ of beating the Seagulls to a deal.

Douglas adds that he’s a ‘long term’ target of Newcastle’s and someone we’re hoping to sign for around £15m, despite Southampton initially demanding around £30m for the former Chelsea man.
