Bad news for Sandro Tonali as Wednesday night disaster brings forward flight to Tyneside

As reported by Sky Sports, Sandro Tonali now looks set to travel to Newcastle to complete his £55m move from AC Milan after Italy were eliminated from the U21 Euros on Wednesday night.

The finer details of a £55m deal had already been sorted out prior to the final group game and it was just a matter of time before we could make an official announcement for our imminent new signing.

After beating Switzerland on Sunday, the Italians would have been confident of progressing out of the group, but a 1-0 defeat to Norway meant that they finished third on goal difference and exited the tournament.

While the elimination will be hugely disappointing for the 23-year-old – who was captaining his country out in Romania – it is likely to ‘accelerate’ the completion of his transfer to the Magpies as he heads for the North East.

The sooner the move is confirmed, the sooner the former Serie A winner can settle down in his new city and get to work for what is an exciting season ahead.
