Sandro Tonali’s first message to Newcastle fans and emotional statement after AC Milan exit

Sandro Tonali has described his move to Newcastle United as a “huge opportunity” in his career following today’s official announcement.

The midfielder has promised to give his all – something he’s “always” done throughout his career – and plans to “repay the trust” shown in him by Eddie Howe and NUFC.

He’s spoken about his excitement at playing in front of Toon fans at St James’ Park, looking forward to feeling the “warm of the fans.” The 23-year-old Italian also sent a goodbye message to AC Milan on his Instagram page, wishing his boyhood club all the best for the future and reflecting on his time at the San Siro with “a mix emotions” in his heart.

Starting with his first message to Newcastle United fans, here’s what he told NUFC.co.uk:

“First of all, I want to thank Newcastle United because they are giving me a huge opportunity for my career.

“I want to repay the trust on the pitch, giving it my all, as I always have.

“I’m really excited about playing at St. James’ Park, I can’t wait to feel the warmth of the fans.”

The midfielder then sent this goodbye message to AC Milan, posting the following statement on his Instagram account:

“Today I find myself here with a mix of emotions in my heart. As you know, I’ve decided to take on a new adventure and challenge.

“I begin by thanking the club that welcomed me and gave me the opportunity to be part of this extraordinary club, which is and will always remain my home. I thank those who made sure that I wore the colours of the team of my heart and those who managed the situation with availability and sharing in the last few weeks. I’ve learned a lot in these three years and I’ve found a football family among clubs, teammates and technical staff, who have supported and guided me along my path. It’s thanks to them that I have been able to improve as a footballer and as a man.

“I understand that this farewell can arouse mixed emotions and it’s normal that they exist when you leave a big piece of your heart, but it’s important to remember that in football, as in life, changes are sometimes a reason for growth for everyone.

“Now I want to thank my people: you [the fans] who, like me, carry the Rossoneri colors in heart. I will never forget the Curva Sud chants, the 19th Scudetto, all the wonderful moments shared together and the love for our Milan.

“I wish you all, club and fans, the best for the future and I’m sure you will still do great things together.

“A warm hug, with the hope that it is not a farewell, but see you later Forza Milan. Sandro.”
