Toon transfer plans hit by FFP as Howe learns ‘reality’ if £35m deal goes through – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Toon chiefs have stressed that our ‘hands are tied’ in the transfer market after overspending in previous windows, accepting that the coming season could be ‘tougher’ as a result.

Luke Edwards’ latest piece claims our summer budget will be used up if and when a £35m deal for Harvey Barnes is sealed, meaning we could be forced to sell-to-buy and/or pursue loan deals unless our financial situation around FFP changes.

There is a sense amongst the fanbase that the Magpies are still unprepared for a season of Champions League and while the hierarchy may agree, it’s feared there is little they can do about it.

Ideally, we would be looking to bring in a centre back, a full back, a wide forward and another midfielder, but those deals are looking increasingly difficult to pull off.

As has been previously reported, the signings of Sandro Tonali and potentially Harvey Barnes could take up the whole budget and any further signings will require sales.

Either we have been bluffing this whole time to avoid paying extortionate fees or the financial situation at the club isn’t as strong as some initially believed, with our FFP struggles very real. Only time will tell.
