Newcastle in pole position to sign Ligue 1 star after ‘concrete talks’ – Sky Sports journalist

According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle are leading the race to sign Axel Disasi after ‘concrete talks’ with Monaco.

He reports that we’re ‘pushing’ to sign the Frenchman and that negotiations are ‘ongoing.’ This comes after Fabrizio Romano confirmed last weekend that we’d contacted the player’s side over a potential move to St James’ Park, while Steve Kay at FootballTransfers revealed that Disasi has already verbally agreed a move to Tyneside should the two clubs strike a deal.

The 25-year-old was ever present for the Ligue 1 side last season and featured for France at the Qatar World Cup, but could well be on the move with a number of top clubs thought to be in the mix.

Man United are also believed to be interested in the centre-back, but the Sky reporter claims the Red Devils must sell Harry Maguire before committing to any deal for Disasi, giving Newcastle an advantage following talks.

While the Magpies may be leading the race at this moment in time, Monaco are still waiting to receive an official offer for the 6ft 3′ defender. However, it’s positive to hear we’re making progress and pushing to sign another centre-back, with a right-sided option able to compete with Fabian Schar considered a priority along with a left-back, midfielder and winger.
