Newcastle handed major boost as key player returns ahead of Chelsea clash

Newcastle have been handed a major boost for our remaining Summer Series games as Joe Willock has been back in training for the first time since picking up a hamstring injury at the end of last season.

The squad have been training in Atlanta today ahead of our game against Chelsea tomorrow night, and Willock has finally made his return to the pitch.

The 23-year-old pulled up during our home game against Brighton in May after what was a great season for the midfielder and a huge step in his development.

There were even some calls for an England call-up if he had avoided injury – he was certainly more impressive than Connor Gallagher who Southgate continues to include.

It may be unlikely that the ex-Arsenal man features in tomorrow’s game given he has only just returned, but hopefully he is able to get some minutes under his belt before the season gets underway.
