Newcastle reject Lewis Miley bids as Howe makes plan for pre-season star – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United have knocked back a host of loan bids from Championship and League One sides interest in signing Lewis Miley on loan.

Luke Edwards reports that the 17-year-old midfielder will remain on Tyneside ‘at least until January’, with Eddie Howe planning to hand him Carabao Cup starts and cameo appearances in the Premier League following him outstanding displays in pre-season this summer. Howe also admires his versatility, believing he – like Elliot Anderson – can play as a No 8, No 10 or even out wide.

The midfielder caught the eye in our opening win over Gateshead with some composed possession play and a superb assist, but it was his displays in the Premier League Summer Series that really stood out.

He outshone £107m man Enzo Fernandez in our 1-1 draw with Chelsea and showed flashes of brilliance in sub appearances against Villa and Brighton. In the latter fixture, he wowed fans with one silky turn and pass, showing real elegance and quality on the ball for 6ft 3′ teenager with little experience at senior level.

So, a loan this summer is off the cards – as Howe has already confirmed – but it’ll be interesting to see what happens in January. Interestingly, journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Leicester and Stoke City are two of the second tier sides to have shown interest.

Speaking to The Telegraph, an unnamed member of Howe’s coaching staff said: “he still has a baby face and so much more growth to come physically.

“I’m not even sure he has started shaving yet. But he is a very talented boy, we have been aware of him from the moment we arrived. He needs time and he will get time, Eddie knows what he is doing in terms of his development.”
