Newcastle United have released footage of the players in training today, showing the squad being put through their paces just 48 before our opening day clash with Aston Villa.
The positive news is that Fabian Schar features in the three-minute video released from our Benton base, showing the Swiss international involved in full contact training game (he can be seen closing down Sean Longstaff around 1:55 into the clip below).
As we revealed on Wednesday, he did not feature in any of the 27 photos released from training earlier this week, but the fact he’s back in action suggests he should be fit for Saturday.
Schar was forced off in our 1-1 draw with Chelsea over in the States and played no part in Sela Cup wins over Fiorentina and Villarreal. Time will tell if he’s OK to start this weekend, but these are positive signs. With Howe due to speak with the press tomorrow morning, we’ll know more then.
