SIX centre-back targets go public as Newcastle push for one more big signing

Following Eddie Howe’s press conference this morning, The Mail’s Craig Hope has revealed SIX centre-backs targets under consideration at Newcastle United.

He reports that moves for Jean-Clair Todibo (Nice), Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen), Perr Schuurs (Torino), Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace), Odilon Kossounou (Bayer Leverkusen) and Antonio Silva (Benfica) are all being ‘explored’ by the club.

After speaking with Howe earlier today, the North-East reporter adds that Newcastle have to be ‘creative’ in the transfer market due to FFP, meaning structured deals or potential loan-to-buys could be pursued.

It’s well documented that we’re in the market for a right-sided centre-back able to compete with Fabian Schar and operate alongside Sven Botman, with many of the options above being young and athletic defenders who’d offer something new to our back line.

Andersen doesn’t fit that mould, but the Danish international is Premier League proven and stylistically very similar to Fabian Schar, making him a viable option if Palace are prepared to reduce their demands.
