Keith Downie reveals Tierney’s stance on Toon move and state of play after Arsenal talks

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has revealed that Kieran Tierney is eager to sign for Newcastle United if the club can come to an agreement with Arsenal.

Speaking from the club’s Benton training base today, he reports that “there’s a want from Tierney’s side” to sign at St James’ Park, despite interest from the like of Real Sociedad, West Ham and former club Celtic.

However, it could be a difficult deal to do. Downie reveals that Arsenal want the money now and a straight sale, while Newcastle’s FFP limitations have left us pursuing a loan deal that includes an option or obligation to buy next summer.

Here’s what the North-East reporter has had to say on the deal, revealing the stance of Tierney and the two clubs after long-term interest from Newcastle:

“It’s a player Newcastle have wanted for some time.

“There’s been contact between all parties throughout the summer and I think there’s a want from Tierney’s side to make the move here should Newcastle agree something with Arsenal.

“It’s going to be difficult though, as Arsenal want a fee for the player now. But Newcastle don’t have the money to spend, they have to be creative and are looking to loans and structured deals.

“So if Newcastle are to get him, it would have to be a loan agreement with an option or obligation to make it permanent next summer. It’s one that could go on until the end of the transfer window.
