Hayden move collapses as Toon teammate looks set to join Sheffield Wednesday instead

As revealed by the Sheffield Star, Isaac Hayden’s proposed loan move to Sheffield Wednesday has now collapsed – just days after Luton Down pulled the plug on on a deal.

It’s not yet clear why the move has fallen through, but they report that the club had ‘earlier concerns over the player’s physical condition’ after a series of knee issues. Who knows, perhaps the early part of his medical flagged up issues the Owls weren’t comfortable with.

With that deal now shelved, The Telegraph reveal that Sheffield Wednesday look set to sign fellow Mag Jeff Hendrick instead. Mike McGrath reports that the Irish midfielder has arrived in South Yorkshire, suggesting a deal is close.

As for Hayden, The Telegraph revealed this lunchtime that Standard Liege had launched a late bid for the 28-year-old. It’s not yet clear if that’s a loan or permanent offer, but the Belgian window shuts on September 6th, giving Hayden another potential escape route if no domestic move presents itself today.
