Deadline day update from Eddie Howe – Late exits, two Mags could stay & no more signings?

Speaking to the local press today, Eddie Howe has issued an update on incomings and outgoings ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.

He’s all but confirmed there’ll be no more signings, as Sven Botman’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared, but the boss reveals that a “couple of players” look set to move on, with a few “young lads” likely to leave on loan for some first-team experience.

No names are mentioned, but Jeff Hendrick is closing in on a move to Sheffield Wednesday, Standard Liege have bid for Isaac Hayden after his move to Hillsborough collapsed and U21 talent Lucas De Bolle is expected to join Feyenoord on loan.

As for other outgoings, Howe insists that he’s keen to keep both Matt Targett and Javier Manquillo. The former has received reported loan bids from Fulham and Nottingham Forest, with the latter linked with a return to Spain.

Here’s what Howe’s had to say on all of the above, starting with his comments on potential outgoings:

“I know there is probably a couple of players that might move and a couple of young lads might move to get experience and develop their careers. But I’ll be focused on my preparations for Brighton.”

Eddie Howe on Matt Targett:

“Well I don’t know about that [transfer interest from Premier League clubs] but Matt is an integral part of what we’re doing. There will be no part of me that wants to lose him.”

Eddie Howe on Javier Manquillo:

“Hopefully we can keep Javier. At this moment in time I’m focusing on the next game and I don’t quite know what’s happening with every transfer out.”

Eddie Howe on potential incomings:

“We knew when we signed Lewis that we were not going to do any more business.

“That was going to be us unless there were a crisis in terms of positions and we were able to act…we don’t think Sven’s injury is too bad. We’re a lot stronger than we are this time last year.

The window has been very slow initially. There wasn’t a lot of action but it’s quickened up as we get to the deadline. For us, we were able to get our targets in, we’ve been quite settled and there’ll be late moves from us.
